This latest shakedown really takes the Cake.
If the Mayor did indeed say that, it’s another reason why he won’t be getting my vote!
Mayor is way above average of being incompetent. We need the business community!! If for nothing else but to support the failing school.
I think Mayor McGovern has eaten his fair share of donuts. I agree, people in “higher” positions in this this tiny one square mile town abuse their positions. Like BA Connolly squeezing La Dolce Vita to supply the food for next to nothing at the beach bonfire.
McGovern is a dope and by making that comment makes him an even bigger dope!
Why should this surprise anyone? McDirty/McGovern, same thing. Where’s the MCPO when you need them? Where are all the McGovern supporters? Chirp. Chirp. Vote this idiot out please. I am making a special trip to JB’s today to show my support for this local business, and to make my grand daughter happy. I don’t care if they’re $50 a pop. I encourage all to do the same. Jersey City/Edison politics at it’s best.
Really,Mayor? The poor cupcake girl? She started in Belmar a few years ago as a pop up cupcake shop. It was only open on the weekends. Moved to another storefront in Belmar and was on Cupcake Wars because her cupcakes are that good. Just moved again into a bigger storefront and offers great cupcakes, parties and camps. She shows what being a business entrepreneur is all about. She is a great role model for young women. And, she CHOOSES to do this in Belmar. We should be supporting our businesses who want to be here.
A couple of things. I’m not surprised in any way by this. Obviously, this mayor and the previous mayor are incompetents and unscrupulous people. However, that’s no different in my view than all leadership in the vast majority of leadership in all walks of life in our nation at this time.
————————————-Secondly, While I have nothing against a person opening a donut shop, why don’t women bake anymore? Don’t home baked cakes/cookies/cupcakes/Danish/pies/etc. always beat store bought products? The thing about home baking is that the ingredient of love is in the cake. You don’t get that by passing money across a counter for an already baked product.
How low can you go, Mr. Mayor! Hopefully you will lose the upcoming election and limbo rock your self outta here.
Yes, there is the love ingredient in homebaked goods. My favorite bakeshop in Belmar was the long absent Dierdre’s by the laundry in the little strip on 7th Avenue. She ground her own flour from oats, I believe. Best scones ever, full of love.
I have never been to this cupcake shop. But I will make damn sure that I tell all my friends and family to give them all their business from now on.

The actions of Belmar mayor’s disrespectful and unlawful, pay -to-play move has garnered more positive business for this victimized woman which will far surpass the coverage JB Couture Cupcakes received from Food Network. Check her out after 12:30pm.
Isn’t our current lifeguard director a retired detective from the Monmouth County Proscutor’s Office? Nothing will happen to Mayor Magoo or the current BA for their numerous infractions. It’ll be business as usual, nothing to see here.

Tom, it’s not that easy for a family to make it on single income without being on some form of public assistance.
Baking takes time that many of us just don’t have after trying to earn enough to pay taxes, utilities,housing insurance etc.
#15 – I just needle. I will never run for office. Yep, you got me I’m a sexist because I think women/daughters/aunts and former Ironworkers should be able to bake. As far as my cakes go, I don’t sit on them, We eat them cakes are not baked to be sat on. But my peach pie is the best if I say so myself.
Also, if I can sew, women should be able to sew too as well. Nothing wrong with women sewing her son’s or husband’s clothes.
I feel sorry for so many women who’ve been sold a bill of goods with this dumb feminism stuff.
#16 Agree not easy to raise a family. If you don’t earn enough then don’t have kids. The government is not your answer. The government is dumber then you think. I have a PT job in town to off set the cost of my aspirin intake. And my age says I shouldn’t work but I do.
Agreed Old Man. Irks the crap out of me seeing a tatted out mom with 4 kids in tow with an Iphone10 in their pocket paying for their “loaded to the brim” cart of bags of shrimp with food stamps driving a 2018 huge SUV. True, I don’t know their whole story. Priorities in life are what it’s all about. I guess its the Democratic/Socialist way of life. Heck, move to Lakewood, steal from the government, then plead mea culpa. I just don’t get it.
I know a lot of people who eat cupcakes…that is hysterical. Except that it is a nasty, anti business comment.
