Tomorrow’s Agenda

You know I complained about this when the Democrats ran things and I’m going to complain again now with the Republicans running things; How can they pass 36 Council resolutions on a wide variety of topics without a public comments session?  Just because this is a reorganization meeting does not mean that the Council should not have to answer to the public on legislation they are about to enact or appointments they are about to make.  I’m asking the Republicans right now to add a public comments period before voting on all this.

And if they do add a comments session please all of you don’t embarrass me by not asking any questions.

Resolution packet, btw, can be downloaded here.

agree with admin … but, these reorg meetings have become backslap meetings … some of the position appointments are timely … others can wait.

There is always enough time to do things over.

I quickly counted 3 resolutions that need change as a matter of law

Strong Mayor, weak Council. All position are allowed to be filled at the pleasure of the Mayor. Terms that have not yet expired remain until then.

The consent of Council is just pro forma. The public is not consulted under the current form of government.

#6 and #11- This “we’re in a mess” is getting a little old. Besides all of the lawsuits that need to be settled, exactly what mess are you people talking about? And Walsifer and Brennan were both part of the “in the know” so we can hold their feet to the fire.

    #13. What mess??????
    Here’s a short list.
10th ave safety building that can’t be used because of poor design and construction. At a 2 mill. ($$$$$)
    2. No FEMA money for Taylor. ($$$$$$)At 4 mill.
    3. Borough hall that has been neglected for years and needs major repairs ( working lights outside would be nice too)($$$$$$$)
    4. Fire company building repairs and equipment needed that has been ignored for years ($$$$$$)
    5. Lifeguard shortage ($$$$) and low moral.
    6. Zoning and development issues.
    7. Flooding issues on rte rte 35 ($$$$$)
    8. Parking parking parking. (Marina Grill)
    9. Empty stores on Main.
    10. And yes those pesky lawsuits which have cost us hundreds of thousands in leagal fees already are still looming out there ($$$$$$$$$$$).
All of which brings me to the BIGGEST issue. DEBT DEBT DEBT. The money has to be found somewhere ( the bs “no tax increase scenario only works until some one else gets to look at the books)
As far as Walsifer and Brennan voting for the budgets.
I agree Walsifor should have voted no.
    And Brennan? Well……

    # 12 – I just want the best qualified person. If that person is a woman fine, but if it’s a man, I’m fine with that as well.
    # 15 – I think most of the lifeguard problem is twofold. One is that many young men and women can’t pass the swim test (they could lower the standards to create the illusion that the unqualified lifeguards are indeed qualified – we do that all the time now in our state) and two, many young men and women don’t like being outdoors for too long at a time. Why are empty stores the towns responsibility? Taxes (unfortunately) just have to go up. Lastly, yes, parking is a big concern and there should be no further applications to build condos/apartments approved in Belmar for the forseeable future.

#17 – Sir/Madam, I’m almost at my wits end with so many people. You’re not supposed to say things like that. This is not about “standards.” It’s about creating and maintaining an illusion. For exampul, if a person should now swim 100 yards in a certain time, you lower the distance 5 yards in the same amount of tyme and repeat over and over that you haven’t chainged the standard. Now do you finally understand? I think that “qualifies me to be an edumacator at Belmar Elementary Scool.

#15-I think you’re wrong about stores on Main St. During the week there are many cars on Main St, indicating a bustling business district. Most stores are occupied-pretty much all of them . The idea that our Main St.is dying …. old-hat complaint from anti Democrats. At one time stores were empty, but not anymore. Remove that from your “short list.”

20, just because there are tenants in stores on Main Street doesn’t translate to customers in said stores. There’s no parking for customers. Check it out yourself even if you have to park behind the old Acme.

#22. and Rt. 35 is a State issue and needs to be handled accordingly. and the Lifeguard issue will work itself out. and zoning issues are handled by the zoning board. and Boro Hall and Fire buildings serve their functions (technology equals fewer workers, less space) and finally parking should be Marina Grill problem, not ours. Don’t raise taxes,Slash budgets.

#23 Marina parking is Marina grilles problem. How about the boat owners pay over a million and a half storage , and marina grille and 9 th ave pier pay & 250.000 and take all the parking spots. There use to be a waiting list to get in the marina, not now , hundreds of slips available, NO PARKING, THANKS MATT.

#25- The solution is to dedicate a large number of spots (parking lots) to the boating industry, closest to the docking areas. That would include spots nearer the charter boats. Yes, gated with entry keys. The remainder, however few there may be, can be open to Grill patrons. Let the grill figure it out. Would anyone know the specifics of the Grill contract regarding parking issues???

The town threw the boat owners a bone last year giving them about 25 spots along the bulk head, not nearly enough. Matt was asked at a Marina meeting if they ever did a traffic and parking study for the marina grille, he said no it wasn’t necessary. What a sh????t show there on the weekend.

  29. Well hopefully boat owners will start to come back now that fabio is gone! Regarding parking, if they moved the curb back 5-10 feet along the trailer parking lot and other lot by marina grille where they have head on parking spots already, they could increase a lot of parking spaces by making it all head on parking on both sides instead of parallel parking for boat owners along the water. Also open up the trailer parking lot at night instead of enforcing trailer parking only when its empty, or find some place else for trailers to park, its not fair to boat owners who pay so much money all year and cant park, but yet trailers only have to buy a token once a week or when they decide to fish and they are all set with parking!
