Who’da Thunk?

I have to say that when I decided nearly a year ago to do this thing I didn’t think there was much of a chance of success.  At least success as defined by actually winning the election.  I viewed the race as simply a good opportunity to spread my message, using the campaign as a megaphone much as I did when I ran in the past as an independent and as a Libertarian.  Its not that I didn’t want to win.  I did want to win and after all that has happened over this past year I want to win a lot more now.  But as in my previous electoral forays, I didn’t view final vote counts as the sole metric of success.

What a difference a year makes.

I have to say that all the mistakes this administration has made over the past year has put a lot of wind at my back.  But please believe me when I say that I would have much preferred to not have that wind.  It would be much better if a change in the makeup of our leadership was not necessary.  It would mean that Belmar would not have the problems that now make that change imperative.  I would rather be a loser in a Belmar without all the problems than a winner in a Belmar with these problems.  I’m sure my running-mate Tom Burke feels the same way.

But there’s something else.  I never ever expected to be the recipient of so much help.  So many people, many who I had never even known existed, just magically appeared and did almost all the work.  Others gave us money, again, completely unsolicited.  To me, they are all angels and I’m still completely dumbstruck at how lucky I am.

You know, I think Tom will win because he has worked so hard and is a good, solid and intelligent man.  But if I also win it will be because I had angels on my side.

That’s it.  I’m done.  Go vote.

You have already won Dave, by running an honest and ethical campaign. I only hope that the final vote total substantiates this fact.
