Belmar resident Vincent T. Ehmann Jr., an unaffiliated voter, filed an ethics complaint Tuesday with the NJ State Ethics Commission in Trenton against James (Jamie) Fox, a NJ lobbyist and campaign contributor to Matthew Doherty’s Assembly and mayoral campaigns.
Ehmann alleges that Fox, a voting member of the Local Finance Board, failed to recuse himself on two critical ethics complaint decisions by the board on May 8, 2013. While two other members, Board Director Tom Neff, of Lake Como and Idida Rodrigues of Paterson both recused themselves because of potential conflicts, Fox, who contributed to Doherty did not. Thus Ehmann concludes that Fox’s failure to recuse himself was unethical and that Councilman Jim Bean’s two complaints before the board were unfairly decided.
