Nobody likes parking meters …. However, I do not fault the Mayor & Council for trying to determine the value of a parking space at different places and times in the Borough …. Let the parking space market play out …. there is no entitlement to a free space.

All public space/roads are free until someone starts charging you for them.

Asbury Park charges $2.00 per hour to park at the front of the beach.$1.00 per hour on the side streets.Belmar could easily charge $1.25 to $1.50 and solve the budget crisis.

In the old days any budget crisis was solved by reduced spending. Uh I think?

Get rid of the parking meters. People pay enough for a beach badge already.

Free parking would encourage more visitor to town.

The last time that I went to Island Beach State Park or Sandy Hook ….the beach was free …. but, I got dinged 10 bucks to park …. Maybe, Belmar should make the beach free and only charge money for parking?
All Public Trust Doctrine issues would be avoided.

When a proposed charge hits the personal wallets, then the complaints start. I guess that is only natural, just evidence of “me-ism”, not concern with the larger matter at hand, i.e., raising revenue to pay bills accrued from government’s wasteful spending. If a person moved into an apartment house or condo without adequate parking for residents, well, I would ask, “Why did they move there?” Hey, how about a free or low charge 24/7 shuttle service from certain buildings on Ocean Avenue to the large parking lots around Borough Hall, or heh, heh, Inlet Terrace. A deal could be worked out with one of the local taxi companies. (Just half joking, actually. Why criticize without offering some solutions, absurd as they may be?) By the way, walking is good exercise.

#7- Are you un-American or something? There’ll be no “walking.”

#8-Pretty soon Americans will start to grow wheels instead of feet. Then I would send them to the autobahn where they can have real fun. And complain about taxes. Wait, that is a real NJ issue. Never mind, just call me an iconoclast. (smiling here)
