Perfect!, That’s what I say. Matt really wants to bring on the hatred of the residents. Bring it on. Talk about no compromise and out of touch.
Come to Belmar where Animal House and Woodstock come alive!
Anybody have a cold one please??
If I become an alcoholic, I might try to sue the borough, and maybe the state and all the legislators who pass the bill. (tongue stuck in cheek)
Now I need an aspirin!
If this goes thru it is time to start a petition to bring back the 12 o’clock closings back…
How does this give people jobs and brings them back to work when the majority of the people working at the bars during the summer are college students, who all go back to school in September. This is all in favor of his political alias at Djais and 10th ave burrito, oh and 9th ave pier too. This is all politically driven and I’m sure their is kick backs being tossed around..
I can’t sleep I’m so upset.
How do we apply the brakes to this advancing legislature. Belmar has 3 of the 8 seasonal liquor licenses the state allows.(this number does not include the ones that are created by our governing body on our municipal properties) The last thing we need in Belmar is more drinking time. Our police force budget will now have to include more time and money for babysitting drunks.
How is this fair to the year round establishments? Is he slowly untying all of what the previous folks did to make this a decent town? If the licenses are extended it will be cutting into the quality of life “locals” have come to enjoy in the off season.
“I don’t think it’s fair to the full plenary license holders who are paying full freight for the license,” Barnes said. “I want to be helpful, but I think being helpful to one, you hurt the other.” Agreed 100%
Cathi, that one sentence explains why liberalism is a bad thing. Government can’t help people without hurting other people by the same amount. More, actually, because of administrative costs.
Finally!!! D’Jais gets something for their authorized messenger ballets. I thought Matt would never deliver.
I feel the same about another pizzeria coming to Belmar. It’s like pizza itself; you can have one slice, four slices, eight slices or even 12. It doesn’t change the size of the pie it just reduces the size of each slice.
I can’t eat pizza anymore.
Also quite interesting is that the bill is sponsored by Senator Stephen Sweeney (D) He represents Cumberland, Gloucester and Salem Counties. Why is it that “Belmar Mayor Matt Doherty, who is one of the Republican governor’s strongest Democratic allies, said he made the request to Christie for the executive orders and asked Senate President Stephen Sweeney (D-Gloucester) to introduce this legislation? went outside of the county of your interests for this legislation???
Change of plans ….
We’re on our way back to Sin City …. forget the Family Town malarkey and bring your children …. for a fee, the Borough would protect them at a summer camp.
The only one benefiting from this seems to be the state. Maybe we should be like NYC and add a city tax to help pay for the road maintenance, etc. etc.
C a s h, C a s h, C a s h, C a s h, C a s h, C a s h, C a s h, C a s h.
The only thing accomplished by the 12close was to educate the “visitors” that they could get wasted cheaply where they crashed and then partied #$?/:
till 11pm on their and neighborhood lawns.
19 Sweetiepieface they want to party we have to make it worth Belmar’s wear and tear not the Bar’s they are making their own money at OUR expense.
I see nothing but mis-information and bigotry in these comments !!
#21 – gettagriponyourself…
#21 If there is misinformation PROVE IT, in your view bigotry is people that don’t agree with you. Everyone can make up their own opinions.
#21 You are joking of course.
#21 Your information on seasonal licenses is incorrect. #19 There was nothing inexpensive about the Festival prices. And why do most of those who post hide behind a fictitious name ?
Let me think:
Belmar now has a brewery. The brewery wants to sell beer and provide someplace to host Belmar-friendly events for the Borough, it seems. More places to serve beer…brewery makes more money…
D’Jais has more competition, moving potential customers to Main Street.
Now there will be a wine bar of sorts next to the brewery.
This is an alcohol-friendly town, to say the least.
Belmar needs to increase its offerings of alcohol service in order to attract more middle-class families?
other then DJAIS…..
which other Belmar bars have a season liquor license??
because I don’t know what positive results Mayor Matt can see since DJAIS has only opened for St. Patrick’s Parade Sunday in the offseason, then remained closed till May 1st, which is the time it always opens
I have not forgotten about that Ocean Avenue “beer garden” that the mayor referred to in the Wall Street Journal last year and denied laughingly at a meeting thereafter, calling the statement a misquote. Belmar Fitness space still looks empty. Any news on this possibility?
Too many bars in Belmar! How about some pics of the huge garbage piles of empties on Monday mornings?
What political people do we write to to protest this?
And yes, start a petition to make bars close at midnight. Excellent idea. Too much chaos in town in the early am hours
#29 The problem is the seasonality of Belmar, once the frost comes its a ghost town, some people are still calling for a supermarket, it will never happen, times have dramatically changed in 40 years. Foodtown is closing in Howell I believe and Stop and Shop is closing in Manalapan.
#31 Are you saying that the year round people in town do not eat enough food to support a food market? I think you are wrong we didn’t lose the Acme from non support it went from a disagreement in town. The sister market in Manas-
Quan is still going strong and unless everyone is going to drink every meal we really need food service somewhere along the way. The small markets in the south end of town appear to be doing very well. I was very unhappy to see the Acme leave.
# Tulips, the economics and demographics have changed, you have more rental homes and second homes now in Belmar than even 20 years ago. Look at the supermarkets of today vs 40 years ago. There are more products and the competition is fierce. ANY market or major retailer MUST have at least 20,000 cars passing by every day before they would even consider leasing space. If there were a way any store to be profitable they would have taken the space, its still vacant!
Senatorial courtesy, ala breaker’s bill. Hotel California in Belmar on ocean between 18th and 19th. California “dreamin” for sure man, awesomeness for real.
#33 We have fewer group rentals now than we had 50 years ago. The only thing is that they have larger groups they drink a lot more and respect no one. But look what they do for the eateries. They still like to eat.
Hire The Passion Group to market events. Want a different perspective on your borough? You’ll see an option we could have in Bradley beach’s lobster festival this weekend.
#30 We have to keep the Shoralan Club in business!
