“Keady was a Councilman in Asbury Park from 2005 to 2008, when he stepped down before the end of his four-year term for personal reasons. He unsuccessfully sought to regain a seat on the Council in the 2013 election, and was unsuccessful last year in a run for the state Assembly in the 30th District of southern Monmouth and Northern Ocean counties.”
Despite that track record, the Ocean County Democrats endorsed him for the June primary by a vote of 104 to 7 at their convention yesterday. Story in POLITICKERNJ.

I saw Jim Keady and his friends doing more physical work in Belmar than the Mayor or any of the council put together.

Not so, Brian-the mayor and council were constantly working for the good of residents post Sandy, Yes, Jim Keady (a great, caring person) did an incredible amount of work, but so did we…….I was on the council at the time-we assisted and comforted senior residents who were very distraught, made sandwiches, brought food to residents, helped with clothing for those who had lost pieces of their wardrobes, answered phone calls…..referred people to agencies that could assist them, visited homes of individuals who needed help moving things, gave out and delivered infant/baby supplies, sorted through donations, delivered cleaning supplies, helped people decide what they could salvage..-just remembering these accomplishments off the top of my head…there were many more…the Mayor was out on a daily basis…….assisting people in their
homes-I know this is true because I spent nearly three weeks in the relief center after the storm. Updates were sent (via messengers) outlining the day-to-day activities/progress. Matt and borough staff actually slept at borough hall….responding to the needs of our residents throughout the evenings. While I didn’t do hard labor, I certainly did physical work throughout the ordeal…..Jen Nicolay, who had two young children at the time, was at the relief center constantly, helping and organizing troops to go out through the town to assist….her children would try to help also……Brian Magovern was also present-Jim Bean rode throughout the community to see where he could help….as council reps we understood what our roles were and we acted accordingly. To say that a group did more than the Mayor and Council combined is incorrect.
Jim Keady did much work in Belmar helping residents after the hurricane, in fact “rolled up his sleeves” so to speak, but the mayor did not stop Gov. Christie from berating him at that public, photo-op meeting, when Keady stood up to question him when he was here on Main Street a while back. Christie did not seem to know who Keady was but Matt certainly did. The mayor did not defend the do-good guy and tell him that Keady in fact did “roll up his sleeves”, to use Christie’s words. Matt stood by sheepishly at Christie’s side, close to his ear, while Christie made a big booboo. I thought the mayor looked like a chump.

This was not directed to you..it is not all about you. I was defending Jim.
I was there too…front of my house was flooded for 2 weeks…I was collecting food and emergency supplies at the relief center and I saw what was happening in the town…After I spent 2 weeks getting my house ready I took an extra week off helping others get in their homes.
#6 Watchman the fact the Mayor just stood there and didn’t even flinch and try to diffuse the situation for Jim Keady speaks volumes about the Mayor. He is only in it for himself.
Claire, I stand by my comment that Jim Keady did more physical work than you or any other member of the council. Believe what you like but I saw him out there more than anyone else in town.
7 – agreed – Keady did more than any other local politician in terms of actually getting his hands dirty – I was sickened to see our Mayor with a smirk on his face while Christie tried to bully him. I wish Keady success in his latest run for office because he is someone who does more than just talk. Our Mayor is just interested in climbing the ranks and having his picture taken. He only takes care of those who donate to his campaign..
Brian and #8-I couldn’t agree with you more about Jim Keady….he was outstanding with his volunteerism and service after Hurricane Sandy. I assisted Jim with his run last year for assembly-I campaigned door-to-door for him and held an event at my home for candidates and included Jim as a member of the team. Also I made over 100 phone calls for him. I truly had hoped he’d get elected, and was grossly disappointed that he didn’t win. He deserves all of the praise and accolades that both of you offer. Jim is an idealist. His passion for helping others is evident in all that he undertakes. I’ve known him since he was very young, as I taught with his mother at Belmar School many years ago. What I don’t understand is why you have to state that he did “more than the mayor and council combined”. Why are those words necessary?..Why couldn’t you just state that Jim Keady was outstanding in every way in assisting Belmar residents and restoring the community after the devastation…if you wanted to reinforce your point? Your praise could go on and on about Jim. Why was it necessary to negatively compare Jim with the mayor and council, when our assistance during those trying times was palpable? Granted, the entire community came together in a magnificent way…..with the mayor and council leading the community…I hold to my beliefs, also, Brian. Also……never thought it was “all about me”…….and that you weren’t referencing me doesn’t add up……especially with your citing of the mayor and council….if it isn’t about me, why mention council members?
She is right Brian , its not like Jim lost $10,000 in gift cards .
I never got gift cards even though I called about them and was out of my home for over 40 days.

13-The cards were given to residents who were overwhelmed by circumstances resulting from the storm …11-I don’t know why your request wasn’t honored..we attempted to meet the needs of all of our residents during those horrific days post Sandy.

15-I enjoy having my head in the sand…what are you talking about? That we would deny assistance during that devastating time? I have assisted residents who hated my politics, and hated me as well..especially during those unfortunate Sandy times..this is true of the mayor and council then and presently..people reached out to me for help…and I came through … The mayor has helped many residents…including those of differing political persuasions…..perpetuating a thought that isn’t so only hurts our community..
