Awesome.
Maybe they can win? Need to campaign a lot.
While I applaud Mr. Walsifer and Mr. Vallario
throwing their hat in the ring and campaigning ” for the good of Belmar “,I want to see in action, not words their commitment to all Belmar residents and to our community. While together they personally own a great deal of real estate, most of us do not. While we having been attending meetings for years, involving ourselves in the issues, standing up for our rights and principles, they have not. Do not misunderstand my Trumpish cynicism. Trust must be earned. The Democrats make too big of a deal about
the elected officials volunteer and charitable work. It is a mask for a mayor who can’t get a regular job and a council who uses it to pander for votes. Belmar independents want a mayor and council who will perform the jobs they were elected to do. To perform those jobs ethically, within the law and without prejudice as to political affiliation. We hate playing favorites, back room deals and all that has come to typify the Doherty Administration. We hate the way this Mayor and business administrator use all officials, committees and boards for political gain or retribution: the police, code enforcement, tourism, planning board.
WE HATE IT AND HAVE SUFFERED UNDER IT. So good luck Mark and Josh and please speak to a few Unaffiliated voters ( the majority )before venturing forth.
#3. Could not agree more. On March 30th, councilman wannabe Tom Burke, the “voice of reason” and who paid a lot of money before the Republican candidates were announced to tell everyone not to vote for Jim Bean who isn’t even running wrote, a disparaging condemnation of the “Jim Bean Rule”. To refresh voter’s memory beginning in 2012, Doherty and Bill Young, later Doherty and Colleen Connolly signed leases, made contracts and paid bill prior to having the elected council vote to approve them. Hence, the Bean Rule was I will not participate in the charade. Hence I will do what I was elected to do. So my question is to Mark and Josh, will you both
conduct yourselves as you were elected to do OR will you let the others have their way with you? Will there be a Walsifer and a Vallario rule? Sorry to be so blunt, so early in the game.
Okay guys settle down. We will soon learn their platform and have an opportunity for one on one time with the candidates. Let’s just realize that we have successful professionals running, one a long time employee of the township and the other a committed citizen of our town with values of improving the quality of life and keeping debt under control. I suggest you contact the candidates and talk with them. Contact information was listed with the announcement of their candidacy.
I received a crazy letter from Tom Burke with terrible comments about Jim Bean. Is there something wrong with Burke. Jim Bean is not running for office.
When someone writes such a hateful letter full of lies and pays to send it to residents I become fearful this individual could potentially be harmful. Burke is a democrat he should stay with his own kind. The letter is an embarrassment to Burke and shows his true colors.
#5, I am calm. However, I am calmly relating to the candidates ( should they read this blog and my post and should they care ) what I and many of my Independent registered Belmar voters think. The two candidates will have list and know how to and where to contact us. After all isn’t that what folks seeking election do? They contact potential voters. Not the other way around.
All legal residents, regardless of their affiliation(s) should at the very least give Messrs Walsifer and Vallerio the opportunity to provide this borough with their platform. There is so much to offer in terms of improvement and healing in Belmar. If we’d only give these guys the chance to restore the advise and consent system maybe we’d have an inclusive government in all sectors of Belmar.
#3-No pandering or masking here…Democrats are stating what is true ….if you wish , I will list the charitable causes carried out by the sitting Democrats…council members… Why demean their good works ? Say the word and I’ll list their accomplishments on this blog…,
#9, accomplishments ? Start with listing the debt statements since Doherty has become mayor. At the end of the day, that’s what matters most. Admin, can you please remind Mrs. Deicke how much debt Belmar was in when Doherty took office and where we are now. Enough with the games.
People are elected to perform government functions, not do charitable deeds. That is what certain organizations are for.
#11…EXACTLY !
I am a word guy. The new candidates have chosen “for the good of Belmar”. Good as a noun, I believe they are using the meaning “that which is morally right, righteous. Claire refers to the mayor and councils good works, good as an adjective. Many residents and voters believe that this refers to the other meaning of good, “benefit or advantage to someone, ie; profit or gain. I personally like,” the road to hell is paved with good intentions.”
Altruistic personalities do not need self-aggrandizement as the rewards for good works within surpass the surface needs
Pat yourself on the back don’t flagelated the public into voting.
Anyone notice the a ocean Avenue address where it appears to be a staging area location for the 5th Avenue Pavilion?
Golly-What negativity! I was responding to the comments posted by #3…defining good, self praise ….debt?? What the heck! A government of the PEOPLE, by the PEOPLE, and FOR the PEOPLE… If history serves me, many U.S. Presidents served the needs of the people in a charitable way…but maybe it’s a difference of philosophy..I believe it’s the responsibility of government to see to the needs of the people ….the aged, the children, the handicapped…the soldiers returning from service/war… 11&12commentary … Your remarks demonstrate your superficial thinking …government Is for the good of the people …Wow! Such insensitivity…
I have photos, video complaint sent to DEP. They were actively working on Friday.
Venerable Bede… Since you claim to be a word man , reach out to Niccolo’.. Have your ever read such nonsense in your life ? With all of those big words to impress… And in the end mean nothing? The ends people go to … For the purpose to impress… By the way#3… How about times I f tragedy and disaster ? No need for charitable efforts by government leaders in times of need ? How about Hurricane Sandy? Why do you think government offices have social services directors? Your comments are empty and short-sighted..
Claire, any comment on the insane debt Belmar has incurred ? Part of which you were on council during.
#18 Claire. I agree with Niccolo. Not to mention if you can use more than simple words do so, the English language is ripe with choices. I agree with Niccolo since one of my favorite stories I tell young people is: ” A father and son were in church, kneeling and praying. The son says to the father, see the man in front of us who has fallen asleep. Aren’t I a better Christian since I remain awake and am praying to the Lord?. The father looks to his son and says: Yes if you hadn’t asked that question.
Claire, you and I first met right after Hurricane Sandy. After a Council meeting where proclamations to restaurants who gave out food after the storm excluding the one Republican owned restaurant: Douglas and Jersey Shore BBQ. I brought it to your attention. Douglas finally ( not publically or by the Mayor and Council got a written proclamation signed by Tom Palmisano. Now, thank you for that but you have to agree all is politically measured. I don’t keep score like you do, but I do keep records going back to Nov. 2012.
Let me give an answer before the mouthpiece of the administration spews out her usual crap.
The insane debt is a hidden charitable device so people can work harder, make more money to pay the debt and feel they are useful members of society. It is called “social service”.
Here we have a basic difference of political philosophy. It is NOT the responsibility of the government to see to the needs of the people. It IS however the responsibility of government to provide for the SAFETY of the people. We do not have to right to the internet or healthcare or a car or phone,. The aged children homeless should be aided by charitable orgs. and churches. Gov should take care of our vets. It comes down to money, our money, not the governments. We give them some to operate for our SAFETY not or luxuries. You see Claire we the people tell you the government what to do not the other way around, we don’t care if you are charitable, we don’t care if you cleaned up after Sandy, we don’t care if you look good. We care that you do what we tell you because WE the People have the power not Gov. Gov is like the child who is bad and when punishment comes crying and begging loving, and turns around and acts bad and over and over. Then says I hate you, you don’t get me … and a parent thinks where is the thanks for all we do. Gov is a child that needs to be watched every second for fear they will get into the Ajax. Well Belmar council has spilled every liquid under the sink and has ruined every nice thing we have in the house and we have had enough.
Claire, you consistently deflect from the primary point that it is the opinion of some that write here in that it is not about charitable issues of a governing body or any individual person. It is not my take away from the writers that they condemn anyone for their giving virtues. Charitable work is not a duty of the Belmar Governing Body or any other elected official or employee. The issue is governing practices of this body in Belmar and others. It is their duty and statutory obligation to manage our money and follow the Laws of the State. If the “people” question that, so be it, they have the “right” to and not being called “negative”. As you wrote “A government of the PEOPLE, by the PEOPLE, and FOR the PEOPLE”. By the way, a Social Services Department isn’t statutory, but I don’t mind some of my tax dollars organizing a bus trip for seniors. And, #20, love the story. Quite appropriate.
20- I love your story too …very appropriate…but doesn’t apply to me..I merely responded to the comments of #3…Yes, Bill Straus.. We do have a huge difference in philosophy..government should see to the needs of the people …and while the social services office isn’t mandatory
Life is good on Planet Claire. Teacher pension, health insurance, she is a product of the State. No wonder she expects government to take care of people.
#20-I love your story too….but your moral doesn’t apply to me-I merely responded to the comments of #3-now all of the hoopla following my remarks!…I must wield a lot of influence for individuals to react so NEGATIVELY-Ted Ehmann-who’s keeping score? If I did, I’d list all of the negativity, innuendo, unfounded insults, etc. that members of the opposition have put forth-Bill Straus-indeed-you and I have a difference of philosophy-government should assist people in need…glad you mentioned safety-how far removed is that from anything/everything I mentioned?…also #20-happy that you agree with Niccolo’ but the words and composition don’t make for a clear message…..#24-while a social services department isn’t mandatory, most area communities have them because local governments understand that assisting people is part of the Democratic process/belief system.(for the People….remember?)..#19-Debt has been accrued over a period of time-without an increase in taxation, by the way..-also, as I’ve mentioned before, we have an extremely capable CFO-I have confidence in her judgment-when I as on council I respected her guidance, words and standards…..as she carried out her duties magnificently-why question perfection? ..#24-Interesting remarks….I consistently deflect?? I’ve answered in a forthright manner all of the NEGATIVE statements -if I think comments are negative, it’s my right to say so…the remarks about the mayor aren’t negative? Those words couldn’t be more NEGATIVE….There! I said it… negative-sure-say whatever you wish-but I am free to react to thoughts which I deem NEGATIVE..#22-I saved the best for last-very colorful language-indicates a lack of knowledge-when people have to resort to crude words…love being dubbed the mouthpiece of the administration-glad you noticed! Are you the same person on a previous commentary who said I was bloviating? On second thought-nah……anyone who uses the word “crap” couldn’t possibly know the meaning of bloviating……
Claire I much prefer you and I talk about our different governing philosophies than all the in between banter. What you said about “governments understand that assisting people is part of the democratic process/belief system” is where I take issue. The more a government will give a person the more that person will continue to vote for that entity no matter how badly they succeed. Give me more and I will vote for you is no way to run any civilized people. We are enslaved to our master and have no freedom with this. We need a hand up not a hand out.
#27 Hooray – My comment must have been “the best” to warrant such a cutting reply. The word “crap” really best summed up what I intended, colorful but not especially vulgar. I do indeed love your insults. Just please do not cut yourself with your sharp tongue.
Claire, your words, “debt has been accrued over a period of time- without an increase in taxation”. Let me ask you this, where the heck do you think the money is going to come from to pay off this debt ??? Matt Doherty doesn’t hold the magic formula to government finances. You keep going back to the CFO when you know these are Matt’s budgets year after year.
Regarding the democratic way, a diminishing of personal freedom would follow the establishment of strong government, along with the appearance of a so-called police state. The founding fathers, those guys who sometimes relished using rough language, knew the dangers of too much government.
A local example of what Mr. Strauss wrote about would be the Democrat voting block of the residents of the senior building, people cultivated and fed with freebies.
Bill Straus-Case in point-I just returned from the Belmar Methodist Church-I attend yoga classes with Brenda Yarnold there-a church representative just asked me who at the borough she should contact regarding two homeless people who are in dire need of assistance-I referred her to the social services department-a local government-run office…the church person was correct in following her instincts about where to find assistance for these two individuals….#30-The CFO was very strong in guiding the mayor and council into safe territories when I was on the council-I believe this hasn’t changed……she would say NO in a strong manner to suggestions for the budget that she felt were not wise…-an enormous amount of revenue will be realized with the leasing of property to Chef’s International at the marina-also with the 9th Ave. Pier..in my opinion the debt is being handled appropriately, and it will be paid down in a timely fashion…
#26-You couldn’t be more correct-life is SPLENDID on Planet Claire…..as you so perfectly described….but I can pretty much take care of myself. I’m assuming that you aren’t a teacher, never were in the profession, and don’t receive state benefits.. and resent the fact that I do . Why didn’t you enter the education profession? In hindsight, I bet you wish you had become an educator. Then you could be on the same level as me. I think you’re showing an envious side to your personality .as Sinatra so aptly sang….”Oh the good life…full of fun seems to be the ideal….”…..these lyrics describe my life perfectly..Good health, wealth…great marriage/husband, wonderful children and precious grandchildren-what more could a girl ask for? I might also add another of Sinatra’s songs…”Fly me to the moon and let me life among the stars-let me see what it is like on Jupiter and Mars….” and I’m adding to the lyrics…..and on Planet Claire-fits nicely with the melody…don’t you think? #29-I only respond in the manner that was put forth to me…..interesting how one-way commenters on this blog can be-you included-you can dish it, but you can’t take it…which one of us used that “colorful word”.?. ..insults? Go back and check out what’s been posted about me on this blog over the years….I only respond when I’m mentioned personally…..or at this point when I’m attacked about my tenure as councilwoman….Go cry on someone else’s shoulder about my sharp tongue and insults….by the way, I LOVED being a teacher…..helping students grow intellectually, socially, and emotionally..
I do not know Joshua Vallario, but Mark Walsifer has sued the town on numerous occasions, and sat on the school board for years, and there is only one thing Mark Walsifer cares about, and that’s Mark Walsifer!
20, 21, 23, 31 nicely put!!! Ms. Deike, do you EVER read over what you have typed before you submit a post?
#33 Who’s crying? You read way too much into straightforward comments, create scenarios with characters to receive your vicious attacks. You are the one who cannot “take it.” If you had the supposed wisdom of your years and experience, you should simply ignore the comments instead of crying about your rights to respond. Grow up. In fact, I will sign off for now and wish you well in enjoying your life on Planet Claire – then chastise myself for responding.
#35-I always read over what I’ve written…what’s your point?…whoever you are ….do YOU ever read over what YOU write ? Like checking your spelling ? My name is posted at the beginning of all my comments…and you don’t have common courtesy to check for correct spelling ? If the spelling wasn’t in plain sight, I could understand an error in spelling Deicke..not an easy name to spell ..it’s not like I’m using a fake name or post anonymously like you and most of the others who comment on this blog…. but when it’s right in front of you …come on ….”People in glass houses”…also..I think you have a reading problem …if you don’t think my answers posted are on target….your point is unclear….speaking in code??
33-Ignorance is bliss…what on earth are you talking about?? I shouldn’t respond ? You can respond in a dishonest way …With a fake title… But I shouldn’t respond using my ACTUAL name. You can’t come up with an original thought…I should stop crying? I should stop making more of the commentary than is intended? Gee, you describe my words as crap … I think that message is pretty clear… I think you got my message.. And I struck a cord . Or your response to me wouldn’t be so disjointed.. No comment about my Sinatra references?? I “create commentary with characters?” To add to your other problems, you have no sense of humor..your worst characteristic..
Correction…struck a chord….
“helping students grow intellectually, socially, and emotionally..”
I’m really laughing now.
Go ahead and laugh….#40….you obviously have no idea what teachers do.. not just me… Where did you go to school? Obviously teachers let you down…if you find my statement amusing. But in the end teachers help students in many ways…to continue your amusement I must tell you that during my 22years at Belmar School I was the recipient of the Governor’s Teacher of the year award-nominated by fellow teachers, administration and parents of children I instructed. I was also named to Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers… Nominated by former students… Hope this adds to your humor…
The Belmar elementary school isn’t doing well, to say the least. Everyone knows the grades are fraudulent to make the teachers and administration look good.
I would like to be helpful here, not really critical or looking for an argument. Mrs. Deicke has the makings of a talented profiler, but she lacks the ability to see herself objectively, in other words, cannot see herself as others perceive her, hence, some may bait her and find her amusing, sadly.
#42-I retired in 1998…hadn’t heard this..do know, however , that in recent years many of our Belmar students have gone to college and lead successful lives. I also know that school administrators have several initiatives in place that benefit the students academically… Other than what I’ve stated, I don’t know about the day-to-day operations there..
Just to say someone went to college is meaningless. Many people go to college. If you’ve got the money, there’s a college that will take your money. The real point is what kind of degree did they get? Did they get a degree worth something or will their degree maybe get them a job in Wendy’s or recovering the shopping carts in a supermarket parking lot(wasted 4 years)? I’m sure the latter is the case with 95% of the “graduates” of BES.
regarding the school – things can be questionable… yes people succeed who have gone to Belmar but how many have had to get tutoring along the way to catch up on things not taught? I have run into a mix of good teachers who genuinely care and other teachers who turn a blind eye to a student who could use a little extra guidance/tlc. For a teacher to refuse to meet before or after school to assist a child in need is unacceptable. Once they are tenured they change and/or disappear. Please don’t tell me this isn’t true or doesn’t exist because my experience will prove you wrong.
Bad teachers turn out bad “product,” young people who are taught to go on the dole, for example, depend on social services and not depend on themselves.
#43-#007-If I can bring amusement into the lives of others I’m pleased to do so….nothing sad about it…in fact, I’m having great fun commenting on this blog…also I’m 73 years old-have lived through a tough life-altering cancer diagnosis with post-surgery treatments, have been dealt other serious problems in my life (most people can relate) and carry on. I could care less how others perceive me…teenagers worry about those things.I’ve lived too long to worry about that….if people bait me, who cares? ….why are you making me out to be some sort of a poor old soul who is being taken advantage of? If so WHO CARES? Where did you get your degree in psychiatry? Also, I love playing with words-this blog gives me the best opportunity to do so…it gives me a chance to sharpen my wit ….the challenge of responding to the comments posted about me offers me great pleasure…..that’s why I could care less if I’m being baited…Thank you, Dave-administrator- for affording me the opportunity to offer commentary on this blog….#46-I pretty much agree with your take on school/education-as in all professions, there are dedicated individuals, and those who don’t care….and you’re so right about one-on-one tutoring/after school assistance for children who struggle-my first teaching job was in the Ocean Township School District…started in 1964-the contract which I signed stated that I had to offer a one-day-a week after school help session for students who struggled….although never required in Belmar, or any other district that I know of, this is a good practice. I continued my after-school help sessions as a teacher in the Belmar School…
#34 Really, and who does Mike Campbell, Colleen Connolly and Matt Doherty care about. Are you kidding. Anyone who runs opposing the current administration is doing more than you! Give Mr. Walsifer a chance before you judge. Obviously you work or are associated somehow with the town and afraid. Run for office or your comments are moot.
The charitable comments are trying to deflect the bad job the Mayor and Council are doing, and how inept and incompetent they are if not ethically challenged. That’s like saying John Gotti was not a bad guy he donated to the church and provided fireworks for the neighbors every 4th of July.
