I know, I know, it’s not a merger it’s a takeover, but merger sounded better.
Anyway, a reader in Lake Como sent this in:
Note that the taxpayers of Belmar have not been promised any sort of property tax reduction.
The return address of the mailer is worth noting:
1700 Main Street is a large mixed use building with many occupants.
The return address is supposed to be a mailable address. If you mailed a letter addressed simply to 1700 Main it would come back as undeliverable.
From the tax records, here is a list of the unit owners of the building:
The address probably comes from John Carvelli, who is a councilman in Lake Como. Or maybe Mike Ryan, who is the former mayor. Maggie Moran’s company, M Public Affairs, used to be located at this address but after merging with ASGK to form Kivvit they moved to Asbury Park. I don’t know if she still has the Lake Como office.
Anyway, the whole reason the state requires a return address is so that the sender can be contacted. This might as well have come from Anonymous.

A property tax reduction ? Laughable !
To the residents of Lake Como, don’t believe any of it. In 2 years you’ll be in the same boat no matter the outcome of this election. Might as well keep your police. Total mismanagement of town finances.
The largest problem for Lake Como is the tax ratables are low because the home values are low you can’t have stagnant or less taxes revenue (income) and your expenses grow and exceed the revenue.
Interesting how no one wants to make cuts, no matter how out of control spending is. People just won’t give any thought to doing with fewer services. Guaranteed, they could do without those serial loafers, laughingly call police officers.
No, the largest problem for Lake Como is living above its means. If you only bring in X with taxes, you can only spend X. Think about it like it was your personal budget. There is no difference. The officials Lake Como elected in the last 10 years (including present officials), have signed deals and made promises for political reasons, not economical ones. No surprise they would come up with a plan that punts the football instead of making the hard decisions that would be unpopular. If Lake Como would change their elected officials, they could change Lake Como’s downward spiral.
wow, I agree. Its bad practice to let the same people who created the crisis, tell you the solution to get out of it.
We can all complain till the cows come home, myself included. Unless people are willing to $$ support the Libertarian, Republican,or Independent parties a common sense message will never get out. $5 by a thousand people is a start look at how much Bernie Sanders has raised, not by Unions and other special interests. Unless an opposing commonsense person raises money, we will be watching this circus run by the Mayor and council continue.
A VOTER 2…it is not about raising money. Lots of good people have run for office in both Lake Como and Belmar, who were more interested in spending less, and making the hard decisions. The people of both communities continue to elect people who make deals with devils, and spend, spend, spend.
One campaign spent close to $30,000, while another, spent nearly nothing, and the votes were about the same. Until enough people have had enough, unfortunately the rest of us are stuck.
I would encourage you to work on a campaign in town, just so you can have first hand knowledge of how it all works! You would applaud the Beans, the Renners, the Seebecks, the Schnecks, the Wrights, the Dempseys, and the people behind the scenes, a lot more, if you experienced it for yourself once.
Where in God’s name do you think these $911k savings are coming from???? The taxpayers of Belmar will now be subsidizing the police services of Lake Como resulting in a lessening of the levels of services the Belmar residents now enjoy. BELMAR- Same tax rate/Less services. LAKE COMO- 30% reduction in local taxes/More services. And we are the only game in town for Lake Como!!!! Who is doing these negotiations and what’s in it for THEM. God willing, Matt won’t be here in five years when this deal needs to be re-negotiated and the headaches that are to come need to be addressed. UNBELIEVEABLE. And apparently Matt could care less about what YOU, the resident of Belmar, may think. Did he ever ask for YOUR opinion? Send a message at the voting booth and start getting rid of these puppets, one by one, two by two. Bye bye Matt.
MY ERROR- It’s anywhere from a $million to $1.2 million savings for Lake Como, depending on how they may want to maintain their own PD. And how much is Belmar saving????
Interesting!
I am a resident of Lake Como and I have never received one of these mailings.
My last name is the same as that of a public employee who might lose their job.
Could that be the reason that I never received any of these mailings from this group?
I did receive my “Official Special Meeting Election” in the mail today.
I believe that the voters of Belmar should have a vote in this matter before any final decision is made by the mayors of both towns.
This whole RFP is nothing more then two drunk Irish mayors sitting over at the FSOS coming up with this idea. They thought they could do this without every raising an eyebrow, it obviously didn’t happen. Mayor Matt just wanted to use this for his Freeholder campaign and Mayor Brian wants something to use it for future political aspirations or employment. This whole thing smells! The people of Lake Como are going to get screwed royally if they vote this down. The current deal is for 25% of the Belmar police budget. The Belmar police budget goes up, the Lake Como price goes up EVERY YEAR ! There is no locked in rate. How stupid is that for Lake Como and how great is that for Belmar. Belmar police have unlimited overtime and make all the money they want and no one stops them. Now we have an “Acting Chief of Police” who is an administrator and is going to make all the overtime he wants. I’m sure he will break $200k this year. Another scam and play on words by Mayor Matt that everyone pays in the end. I hope Lake Como residents wake up and vote “YES” the call for Mayor Brian to resign !
This is the year of the anti establishment movement. We should all support it. Also we should start a local GRIP association. That way as long as newly elected officials know in the next election they will not work special interests to get re-elected but rather work for the people. “When people fear government you have tyranny. When government fears the people you have liberty”
“When people fear government you have tyranny. When government fears the people you have liberty.” Precisely, let us not forget that. Right on!
GRIP! http://gripgov.com/
Some officials get too comfortable when in office too long and forget that they are to serve the people and not promote their own agendas.
Just in case you want to publish FACTS,I am the former mayor, and do not reside the address that you have published.
Got it…
That was a screenshot from the tax records. If that’s a different Michael Ryan than yourself I appreciate the clarification.
#14- Wow, is this the real Mayor Ryan. Rumor has it you’re the mayor that spent a ton of money in 2004 to change your name
from South Belmar to Lake Como. How’d that work out for ya, HaHa. Better take a pict. of those Lake Como Police cars while they are still on the street. May be the last time you see the name Lake Como on anything of importance, other than perhaps your tax bill. Vote Yes on 4/19 to keep the name of Lake Como on your Police cars. Funny how things go round. South Belmar wasn’t good enough for you then but now it’s OK to have Belmar Police running around your town.
At least now we’ve clarified who created this fiasco in the first place!
To the real prior Mayor Michael Ryan, do you own it?
I’m just wondering who sent the flyers out.
Good question #18.
Notice you don’t see Wall or even Spring Lake wanting to help them out. Belmar is always the sap the residents having or wanting to put up with a better tourism agenda than making Belmar a better place to live. Party on!
