Let’s see now, Woodbridge, in Middlesex County, with a very large industrial complex, which has the benefit of industry paying high tax rateables vs dinky, little Belmar, a 1.6 square mile sea shore town with 5000 to 60000 year round residents, a couple of bars, restaurants and stores
that are forced to pay taxes for PILOT redevelopment projects that don’t pay for Board of Education funding, plus 100,000 visitors on seasonal weekends. And the current Belmar Administration just voted 3 to 1 to entertain adding additional housing to the tune of an approximately 400 new residents in Project like urban housing!
It’s a no brainer. Get us out of this TAX NIGHTMARE. Gut the current Borough Hall, reconstruct a newer, state of the art building housing 3 shore like stories or more to accommodate the Electrics, sophisticated/secure PD, BOROUGH HALL, COURT and GYMNASIUM. I wouldntg want to live in a 24 hour police station with drunks, criminals etc coming and going outside my window or door, would you? In the interim I like the idea of renting a house/building to accommodate our needs. Let private investors build a parking garage!
The current last minute, just under the wire, dog and pony show for borough redevelopment is like comparing low residential taxes in Industrial Linden vs high taxes in all residential Hillside. Ridiculous.
By the way, how many OSHA or Worker’s Comp claims have been filed as a result of the decrepit conditions allowed to exist at the Borough Hall? Business Administrator, what say you? Look at all the junk, food, and childlike amusements in a so called professional environment. Embarrassing.
Doesn’t this Brandywine deal smack of lies told yo residents in ordet yo get them to “VOTE YES FOR YOUR PAVILION”?
It’s obvious that the 5th Avenue Pavilion wasn’t built for Belmar residents so why would anyone think the 500 unit Woodbridge monster would be for the example of the benefits for Belmar residents first vs federal housing renters?
The hasty construction of the Taylor Pavilion political clubhouse was more important than repairing the mold-ridden Borough Hall. What’s more important, photo ops with Cory Booker and his ilk or the health of the people who work in and visit 601 Main Street? Cough, cough, I can’t breathe…compensation?
Everyone : The hastily constructed Merrymaker’s Catering hall was more important than the Safety Pavillion on 10th Avenue and Ocean.
The Bam, Bam, thank you mam Borough Hall/Police/Gym/206 rentals construction will be another debacle. Hear No Evil, See No Evil and Do No Evil council people are destined to hoodwink Belmar again if you let them because they follow the leader. No independent thinking from all 3.
#4 – Safety Pavilion” – Madam/Sir, It was never meant two be a so-called safety pavilion. It was always meant to be a clubhouse four the police, medics and lifeguards/guardettes.
Build a first class hotel instead, this won’t add pressure or kids to the school system.Guest Quarters a nice suite hotel.
Tom call it by whatever name you want. The point is it could leagally be paid for out of beach utility and should have been built before the merrimakers catering hall, correctly.
Instead Matt and all the politicians got great photo ops and free press about how wonderful they are.
Of course they forgot to mention we the people paid 5 million of our dollars to pay for THEIR clubhouse.
