thank you Gavin O’Day for standing up for the 4th district. Glad to see some residents aren’t afraid. Between the one-way streets and D’Jais nobody gives a rats butt about you. I thought for a moment there must be a plastic bag factory there and both mayoral candidates were going in for another punch, but then realized it’s all residential except for the 25,000-face book followers night club.
Please remember this at election time. I say write in Gavin O’Day. He actually cares about your quality of life.
The 4th district needs Pat Wann to win this coming November. She will stand up for us. I believe the council’s ears are deaf to the oneway streets and D’Jais being year round. After the council meetings are over does the council ever discuss the public concerns amongst themselves? I’d really like to know their thought process and how they come up with their final decisions. Baffles me!

I would say no. Everything that gets to them has already been discussed I think by smart peepul with whatever agenda they have. Once it’s presented to the Council, the decishun has already been made. It’s left to the Council to rubber stamp it.
#3 Well that’s very sad, mostly for us, the residents who don’t have a say! I believe the biggest issue Belmar will be facing is the municipal complex deal. That 5 story, 206 unit apartments, will be shoved down our throats and we don’t have a say. All so the workers in Belmar, mainly Colleen, can have a nice new place to work. Nothing is for free, we aren’t dumb so the council should stop treating us like idiots. D’Jais is another issue we shouldn’t have to put up with. Do any of the council members live near D’Jais?
If I were staying here I would fight like hell against that apartment building scheme. It’s going to be a disaster for Belmar.
No one on the council lives near D’Jais, and they all get donations from D’Jais – whether it’s directly, or through another individual. Notice how Brian said “I don’t have answers to your questions, thank you” (now shoo!). If it was about tents on the beach or astro-turf, they’d discuss and comment. Since it’s about D’Jais (to whom they are beholden), they say nothing. Gavin O’Day and the D’Jais’ residents have no support from our Mayor and council.

Gavin O”Day spoke with clarity and knowledge about pressing issues that the entire Boro will feel. Just stand on 19and 18th Avenues between A Street and Ocean Avenue from this weekend onward. You will think you’re on a Merrygoround from 4pm to 2-3am. All the transportation motor vehicles, cabs Uber, Lyft, etc circle round and round waiting for a drink or two pick up while their exhaust spews your after hour in your children ‘s lungs. Who knew there was going to be a carbon monoxide issue as a result of bumper to bumper traffic for approximately 10 hours on weekends at the Jersey Shore.I
Gavin was eloquent when he addressed the former Mayor about the reality of the huge mistake that would befall resident tax payers when there was no Pro Forma, at the very least, for the Merrymakers Catering hall.
Social media entrepreneur could be contracted with Belmar at a start rate without specific add on costs just as long as their proposal is (ha, ha) under the 17,500 threshold requiring Requests for Proposals. That’s exactly what Belmar needs, more VISITORS. Will this new Social Media Guru supersede Spark Marketing for non bid proposal? Ha!
Wonder if the Council on its considerable wisdom (without Brandywine’s shill Colleen thought a thorough Environmental investigation of the viability of the Brandywine 25 years tax free, 206 apartment Borough Hall exchange project factored into their thinking the impact on our Aquifer and the South Monmouth Water and Sewerage system?

80 and then more new units
All in a 1.6 Mile wide Borough with underground springs all over. Percolation testing anyone? CAFRA, CAFRA, CAFRA?

Just watched the video. Please vote Pat Wann. This outrageous Brandywine project will be a disaster for the town. Traffic, noise, pollution, runoff into our precious and fragile waterways. Who wants this and why?
There was a lot of carpentry work going on in the D’Jais parking lot today next to the work trailer. Permits? Nothing to see here.
All this development creates a huge population increase in an already overcrowded town. Coastal evacuation routes during a storm will be at a standstill.
Belmar elementary is struggling already and this project will create even more stress. The teachers and board of education should be speaking out against this insanity. Aileen?
I addressed the Council last night and, after Congratulating Mark Levis and Brian Mcgovern, I asked for their support in assisting our Chief of Police, Drew Huisman, in getting a white circle painted at the center of Ocean Avenue and 16th Avenue for a police officer to direct pedestrians, bicyclists and motor vehicles. Since Ocean Avenue is owned by Monmouth County I thought we could get the County to fund a dedicated safety traffic Circle position for 8 hours on weekends. This intersection is very heavily trafficked and extremely dangerous especially when crossing to the stores and back across the street to the Ocean. If the Chief and Council are successful in obtaining the necessary funds from the Beach Utility Fund or Safe Streets Program we will be miles ahead in protecting this dangerous beach gateway.
They are all D’jais sell-outs. Jim Bean for Mayor!

Everyone, -just my opinion and maybe I’m wrong- but if anyone want to stop this Brandywine project it is going to take more than Pat Wann getting up to the mic and complaining about it. It has to start with Councilman Walsifer making a lot of noise, especially with the press, and taking the lead. A friendly lawyer has to be involved that can discuss options and good political ideas need to be followed up with political actions. I almost feel this is being used as a political campaign slogan with no real intention of ever stopping it. It is in a redevelopment zone. This puts it in the Mayors hands. Only politics will alter its course, like an uproar from the people. Other than the no vote I have not heard one peep out of Councilman Walsifer publicly decrying this project or those concerning his constituency. My guess is he wants his disapproval of this project to carry him into the Mayoral position, but by that time it may be too late. I’m not trying to rip Mark & Pat, I’m just saying it’s going to take more than Pat’s talk during the public comment section and a post on this blog. And don’t tell me to wait for the election, actions needs to be taken now by those in the spotlight or it will be too late. It can be done, if there is the political will to take a stand.

As far as fighting the overall size and number of condo units the future will bring – that’s not an easy battle. The Mayor and Council deemed us an area in need of improvement, which allowed the new zoning for redevelopment. It won’t be easy to fight each project at a time, especially since the projects are within the new code. Brush up on code and make sure they’re not breaking it, and if the scope of what’s allowed is more than you like, maybe (I hate to say it), a petition is in order. My opinion about the latest 2 projects: the Bank building is small potatoes (relatively speaking) and will raise property values, the municipal building project is ludicrous.

I’m absolutely against any furtherance of the Brandywine negotiations for their 25 year, Land Shark 206 apartment complex at the current Borough Hall location or any other Belmar location. Let’s wait until the promised 5 millions we were promised to receive from FEMA is actually in our coffersbefore proceeding with more PILOT program redevelopment in Belmar.
Belmar is only 1.3 miles wide with 100,000 people visiting on weekends. What about the impact on our infrastructure? $$$$$$$

What good are all of these Anonymous letters being written. Why can’t you stand up at a meeting and give your input. Are you afraid of the feed back? That is why we never get anywhere because a lot is said and we can’t back you up if we don’t know who you are.

Maria you are right but it can be tough out there if you 1. work in town, 2. have friends on council (or your kids and council’s kids are friends, 3. have been beaten down in the past. After all, we are billed as Against Belmar’s recovery, Elements, and Terrorists.
But – I think there’s a list of names and contact info from the Rock the Vote party about the Pay to Play issue. We do need to organize, and we need to do it right. Stay tuned.
It is my understanding that redevelopment is not petitionable. The only way that project wont go through is if our current COUNCIL and interim MAYOR stand up and openly FIGHT IT!!!

I wonder if a petition demanding they scale back the size and height and provide more parking would work, no?
In my experience the only petitions that work with these people are ones that are legally binding. Even then we’ve had to sue them to get them to abide.
I know you can petition for a referendum on an ordinance but approval of a redevelopment agreement only requires a Council resolution. I don’t know if you can petition for a referendum on a resolution.
#30 – A lawsuit would stop them with a judge most likely advising the borough to reevaluate the project in question.
No taxes for 25 years with all municipal services paid you, me and for progeny?
How about the crooks who might move into the Police Department projects? What great cyber sleuthing there will be. We thought the crappy summer renters having scanners was the bane of all neighborhoods laughing their butts off bc they got over on everyone. The cats in the cradle is what you’ll have right in the station house my friends.
So there will be housing for people who expect free stuff and vote for Democrats.

The former mayor actually bragged at a previous meeting, his last one as mayor, that the borough had to be shut down for the Seafood Festival a couple years ago! What if one of his kids needed to be rushed to the hospital and an ambulance could not get through! He would say anything to create a successful image for tourism.
Shameful. Any business in a Seaside town like Belmar with its magnificent Ocean beaches, water activies,sports, parasailing, paddling, Marina, etc doesn’t need government to advertise for them. We get hundreds of thousands for our natural resources. Don’t get double taxed to give favorites jobs. Foolish administration bilking residents for years.
