Sad News, A New Start

I’m unhappy to have to tell you that the crepe myrtle planted in Joy DeSanctis’ memory last year died.  The good news is that Forcellati’s nursery in Wall was kind enough to replace it free of charge and the new tree was planted this past Thursday.

And the really good news is that Joy will finally be getting the memorial plaque that those of us who loved her want her to have.

  1. That was nice of Forcellatis to do that. I hope this tree survives to keep the memory of Joy alive for a long time.
On another note, looking at that picture reminds me growing up. Silver lake was surrounded by rocks and concrete. Although not the most attractive it allowed you to get to the waters edge to ice skate, fish, whatever. The overgrown weeds surrounding it now is horrendous. It’s a breeding ground for mosquitos, rodents and other creatures. It looks horrible! They should at least get a brush hog and cut that crap down.

#1 I totally agree, Silver Lake looks horrible. The overgrown weeds/brush takes away from the natural beauty of the Lake. On another note I’m so happy they cut the overgrown flowers and bushes around the top part of Lake Como and put in a path to walk to the beach safely on. The problem with planting all these bushes and flowers is that they aren’t attended to monthly and they quickly grow and take over the area. The town shouldn’t plant things if they aren’t going to maintain them properly.

Also, why have we never painted the boardwalk lampposts and returned the avenue mariner flags to them?
The primer paint color is so dreary- why no coordinate the color with the cheery blue on the marina lamp posts?
