Totally agree, I want my view back!
Mr.Rothenberg: Thank you for your letter, I couldn’t express my feelings better.
The Ocean and all of her gifts to enjoy in Belmar have been central to my sense of well being for as long as I can remember.
Unfortunately, since the Boardwalk was erected and the access ramps were misplaced by paid Engineers we have been beset with looking at the BATHROOM from 16th Avenue instead of the Ocean from April/May though their removal, The 16th Avenue Ocean titlating view formerly greeted everyone walking or driving to the Ocean from Main Street 365 days a year. I believe an Errors and Omissions claim should have been invoked by Belmar against their Engineer back when I personally investigated the BATHROOM placement years ago. The Borough should have put the BATHROOM back where they were prior to Sandy. And the BATHROOMs should have been removed in a timely manner before Sandy. There was adequate note of the impending Hurricane. As a member of Belmar’s CERT Team I received the ominous email warnings a week before the storm.
Now the Ocean view is blocked an additional 8 months by the 10 foot high berms. The functionality of the berms to prevent the force of the Ocean, I strongly doubt.
Absolutely agree ! Thank you Mike for stating the obvious facts. This pile of sand offers zero protection. Get rid of this stupidity.
All anyone has to do is drive down the beach front in Bradley Beach and look at the dunes they built all with natural recycled material and built by the DPW. ie: Christmas Trees , Sand , & Dune Grass. Yes it might take the town 3 years to complete the whole beach front but it will last, cost is minimal (labor), and it will actually work.

This is why THE SWAMP MUST BE DRAINED. No one has yet taken responsibility for why the town has been going in reverse. The day of reckoning is coming. Let’s have a fresh start with a different direction to get us back on our feet without all the lies and deceit. DTS aka drain the swamp!
Hey Bert!!! Good letter and thanks for educating us about (among many things) how the sand moves more easily when disturbed. I too think the “berms” are pointless. But I also think dunes are beautiful and the best protection from surges. Times do change and your next 50 years looking at the ocean will be different from the previous – we will get more storms. Let’s follow the Bradley plan and get dunes in place for storm mitigation and good aesthetics.
#6, I could not have said it better myself. DTS ASAP! They must go! The current administration has demomstrated a level of incompetence that is without equal. This time I believe they have gone too far by threatening our beachfront. It is time for a new regime so we may go back to normalcy. DRAIN THE SWAMP.
Sand berms, in the way Belmar are constructing them are usless without anything to anchor it and catch more wind blown sand. This method disrupts the natural ecosystem on the beach. Each spring, the surf zone becomes a dead zone when sand is pushed back towards the water and covers everything. Not to mention the recent escapade with first aid. A natural dune system should be implemented with dune grass, fencing and other vegetation. That view would be something that would make Belmar live up to its name
After pondering the situation at hand for quite some time I’d like to offer a solution. Yo dummies, put the sand back ! These dopey piles look like crap. That is all.
You fools!! How dare you doubt the dunes!! Colleen has everything under control. She’s just trying to protect the residents, keep boro employees happy, and make sure your tax dollars are put to good use. And if you believe any of that, I have a pavilion in Belmar I can sell you.
L Street beach? Why not put a berm there? I mean, 35 floods all the time so maybe the town/DPW can focus on that area?

If that sand pile is so necessary why does it not run the length of the total beach? For the last 2 years it has stopped at 10th ave. We on the north end wonder why? Are we to flood for a reason? The lake is threat enough with
out worrying about the ocean joining it.
Tulip – Merrymakers would never allow that pile of sand to ruin the view from their pavilion.
#14, often wondered the same thing but #15’s thought never even occured to me. Makes total sense. You’re paying a premium for the location and view. In 2016, the berms definitely did extend all the way to the BFC.
15 You are spot on. Isnt the purpose of the dunes to prevent damage to the boardwalk and 5 million dollar pavilions? The only reason they stopped is so they dont block the view and access to the almighty Merri Makers. Drain the swamp!
12th Avenue gets reamed and the sewer systems get clogging sand deposition like never before Sandy. Stop the Berms.
I guess the 8 million dollar shovel ready Lake Como pipeline is not working properly.
That Pipeline almost killed a swimmer last week. And then our lifesaving First Aid squad members had to exit the patient off the beach via Spring Lake. It was simply too dangerous transporting the victim over the 10 foot high Dune/Berm.

Has anyone on here ever booked the pavilion? You don’t have to use MM and it doesn’t have to cost a fortune.
They have neither the time nor inclination to explain the reason for the for the dunes to a man who rises and sleeps behind the protection that the dunes provide then has the audacity to question mechanism to which those dunes provide protection!
You can’t handle the truth!

Weather forecast for this weekend: Sunny and warm! Tell the DPW to lower the ineffectual berm/dunes now. Beach Utility money should cover and Specials for the inevitable crowds. Ask Djais to promote “Locals Summer” by using their influence to get the mountains lowered

The dunes should be put in place as Bardley’s were. Put out Christmas trees, fenced in and let the wind accumulate the sand over the trees which will act as an anchor and then plant the beach grass on them. Don’t listen to the overage teenager, Brennan whining about the grass being against federal regulations. Obviously, if Bradley did it, it’s fine. They will never reach the ridiculous height that the DPW has bulldozed here.
#27 – what federal regulation is he talking about? I’ve never heard of such a thing for dune grass? Every other town with dunes along the shore gets help from a non-profit such as Clean Ocean Action or Surfrider to help obtain and plant dune grass and other vegetation for their dune systems. If anything, bulldozing the beach to create the current dunes is against state and possibly federal regulations without a permit
#28 – I don’t know but when it was mentioned Brennan went into a long song and dance telling how it was against fedgov regs. Of course, it was a bunch of baloney but you know how that guy is.
If it was an Asset it would be protected.
