Actually these are not the beaches we will be going to…the beach closest to us is on state property…but it’s still great news.
From the story:
“I hate smoking,” said (Selectman) Waddell. (This would have been the end of it with a New Jersey politician.) “But I’m not sure I want to go this way. I’m not sure. There’s liberties people have.” (But these are New Hampshire politicians.)

Just the thought that your “Selectmen” actually consider personal “freedoms” and the ability to enforce such a thing is totally incomprehensible to me and probably most New Jerseyans. Great choice Dave.
Maybe they’ve seen the Juul commercials and dont want to hurt anyone’s feelings.
I used to smoke. To be honest, the anti-smoking laws were instrumental in my decision to quit. To the extent that the laws infringed upon my freedoms, well, thank you.
George, I have never heard of anyone quitting smoking because of a law before. If that really works I hope they pass a law banning obesity next because I could sure stand to lose a few pounds.
Remember when Bloomberg passed a law as to how large a soft drink could be in order to be legally sold in NY? New Yorkers were still porkers!
If Bars could only sell 2 drinks per patron DWI’s would certainly decrease as well as many other alcohol related problems.
Where would the nanny state finally end?
How about people take some responsibility for their own lives because it may take a village to raise a child but adults should be able to make their own decisions and live with the consequences of those decisions.
OK, I am happy there is no smoking on the beach because disgusting ass smokers think the beach is one big ashtray but that is the only reason.
In closing one question. If heroin was legal tomorrow would any of the readers of this blog start doing heroin? Probably not, but it’s not because of laws it’s because of personal responsibility.
Maybe it’s not a fair question because the readers of this blog are sort of unusual anyway.
BTW, in 25 years in Belmar I never left a cigarette butt on the beach or anywhere except the garbage.
Well, if I had to stand outside in the sleet to eat my cheeseburger I probably wouldn’t be this fat.
I’m glad they used their heads up there and didn’t ban smoking. The whole thing about smoking is a giant scam. You smoke or not but the fact remains no one gets out of this life alive. I know that knowledge is very hurtful to many people but facts are quite nasty at times nd don’t seem to be worried about our feelings.
