Belmar gave them a fake liquor license can’t we take it away
that place is a real bummer at LOW tide
Violence against women is never okay. Hope you find him
Each summer, we enter into a semi-riotous season. Such nasty things as this will become more and more common as our society continues its descent towards utter savagery. At some point no one will remember a time when people were decent and gentle.
Not even the first day of summer.
Two words as questions about the Marina Grill. Dancefloor? Bouncers?
When did this dockside restaurant become a club or a venue that hosts extremely popular bands like The Nerds? I guess that the oversized “restaurant” space truly had an intended purpose. Belmar’s was duped again by the former Mayor and Council.
Dance floor? I thought this was a restaurant?
What is in the lease? We need to see the lease!
The past is the past regarding the former Mayor and council…. The question I have is what will the new Mayor and council do to change the bar first culture of Belmar….
Summer Timer, worry about Bayonne.
Thst looks like Charlie the Champ!
#9 … the Fisherman’s Den has a lease obtained thru a public bid process … it is my understanding that Chef’s has a ‘redevelopment agreement’ to avoid any public bid.
Fire marshal limit?
Just like the 9th ave pier was supposed to be temporary until the monstrosity was built. We GAVE Chefs our Marina.
#15 We didn’t give Chefs our Marina. Past administration did.
All the the articles in the Coast Star and minutes to the meetings regarding The Marina Grille, I don’t ever recall reading this was going to be a nightclub type business. It was presented to the people of Belmar as a restaurant. Were we duped again?
Remove the tAbles and chairs at any venue and Voila, Nightclub!
He’s a bad man!
How is it that they provide bouncers but didn’t hold the guy ? Now we are looking for him, when they had the opportunity to hold him till police arrived. #14 you are right if they have an occupancy for x amount of tables and chairs why isn’t it enforced? The crowd is certainly noticeable and so are the tables and chairs being removed ? Their lease should be looked into to avoid a nightclub atmosphere vs a restaurant. Is it a breach of their contract? The police should post his picture in the newspaper with this article to find him.WANTED!!!
#20… Bouncers are trained to make problems disappear. The first thing they do is remove the individuals from the property and NEVER call the police… They minimize the bars liability at all costs….
#21 How’s that lawsuit working for them?or Belmar?
“bouncers” are not trained, they’re just paid.
#21 clearly you have never witnessed what goes on at D’Jais. Fight starts in the bar, bouncers hand them off to the police waiting outside where they almost without fail continue their behavior. This results in assaults on the officers and normally a noise complaint. Fast forward to municipal court: hefty fines on a borough ordinance plea for making too much noise. Sometimes the noise is the sound of their head hitting the pavement
#24… That occurs because D’Jais runs the town… In a normal municipality, with all the issues D’Jais causes it would have lost its liquor license years ago…. In a normal setting when a bar is constantly call police for unruly customers, mark’s are placed on the liquor license and eventually the license is suspended… Municipalities are not in the business of marshalling poor bar behavior…
The new Business Administrator and Mayor should review the recently built exterior bar at Djais and their overall occupancy limit of over 600 people. Lets see what they do before Memorial Day. My bet is another big zero.
#26… You are correct… We have a status quo mayor and council… It is a lot of work and planning to go after a bar and its liquor license…. I dont see that kind of drive with the current administration….
The Council know exactly what goes on at Djais and they have the temerity to have you challenge them publicly at a meeting.
So much crying about what goes on at Djais. Belmar has always been a bar town, but even that is changing now. Funny how a lot of other businesses have been leaving too. Coincidence? Idk, there’s probably a bunch of contributing factors. But if you move near a bar you know what you are getting into. Come on. If ya don’t like it move to Avon or Spring Lake. Bunch of worry warts on here. Y’all will never be satisfied.
#29… You are correct that if you purchase a home near a bar expect a some noise… D’Jais also has a right to operate a business considering the licensing they own… But D’Jais has an obligation to operate a respectful bar, that considers the safety and quality of life for all … D’Jais is clearly failing this obligation… Also the mayor and councils number one priority should be the quality of life for home owners and the safety of every individual in Belmar… The two parties listed above are not meeting this threshold…
I love #29 reasoning for allowing a public nuisance to remain. (always been a bar town) Same reasoning can be said in Newark, ~”Its always been a dirty crime city, why do people complain when they invest money in their property?”~
We, that live near a bar do NOT expect our property to be damaged, do NOT expect excessive noise violations after the bar is closed, and we do NOT expect our public resources to be used to facilitate the out of control crowds the bars advertise for.
The current Mayor seems owned by the police union and bar associations. Who will govern for the citizens of Belmar?
Yes, Belmar has always been a summer town with a certain amount of rowdy behavior. But what is meant by the word, rowdy now no way resembles what it meant years ago. Years ago, you may have gotten a few people acting badly but these days it’s a whole new ballgame. You have big crowds of people walking through the streets yelling, urinating, passing out on lawns, vandalism, stealing, etc. Don’t look for things to get better any time soon. As far as the police are concerned, they’re doing their best but are overwhelmed but the vast numbers of these drunks.
Did they find the dude yet?
If not everyone should post his photo on social media
How will legalized weed affect summer people? Calm b4 the storm, different camps, mellow neighbors and how do you deal with 10 -20 goons stinking off their porches?
26, Where’s Pat Wann regarding the quality of life issues and a look at what went on with a new outdoor bar and the ridiculous occupancy limit?
Hmmm?
29 True,Belmar has always been a bar town with a nice peaceful Marina.
No one really had a problem with the 9th ave pier but Belmar has never had the monstrosity restaurant turned nightclub that is the Marina grille. When the non school tax paying building on 10th ave is complete you will see gridlock like never before on 10th and 35 complete with accidents between bicycles cars and pedestrians.
One does not need to be Nostradamus to predict this outcome.
I have dealt with drunks and I have dealt with weed smokers. I’ll take the weed smokers any day. 5 drunks start a fight, 5 weed smokers start a band.
Drunks are loud and violent and urinate all over town.
Weed smokers are mellow and increase revenue at food outlets
