Beach Haus buying license
from Jack’s Tavern
Do they plan to use it at the brewery building…directly across 8th Ave from Anchor Bar and across parking lot from 10th Ave Burrito?
Would be plenty of drinking choices for the seniors!
Why would this location be ok but Salt’s wasn’t?
Bean last night: It’s a big building. How much of it will be bar?
Mayor: We don’t know yet what they want to do.

I can not believe they would invest all this money without giving a heads-up to the Mayor and council.
I vote that we dig a series of tunnels that connect all the bars. We can farm it out to a private company so it wont cost a penny. Like the pavilion and the brand new municipal complex/scientology center. The only catch is that we have to allow advertising in the tunnels and tax deferred rights for 30 years. Oh, and we have to call it the Brian McGovern tunnel (he’s still pissed about not getting his new gym). Oh, and DJais gets the exclusive rights to operate their new ‘PARTY CARTS’ in the tunnel. Also, we have to provide liquor licences to the families of all the executives at the company that we hire to dig the tunnels. You don’t like the idea of all this? Well I’m sorry that you are against Belmar’s recovery.
here is the link to my question from last night.
https://youtu.be/N-jLfUt2Gd0?t=4393
I think they want to operate a restaurant out of it and their current license would preclude them from doing so.
While visiting from the North Pole I have heard my fair share of rumors relating to this..
1. The license will not be used on the current Jacks property. Look for a new building with lower level retail and above rental units.
2. Ever wonder why the top of the former Freedman’s building is the way it is? Does the elevator go all the way up? Do the stairs go all the way up? hmmm.. We santa’s sources tell us they are looking to do a rooftop bar of some sorts. We have heard both a “upscale lounge” but also a “local tiki type bar”. That being said it would connected to the restaurant on the second floor.
3. The license could be for the entire building. Think how AP works and a few bars share one license via a “connection’ to the main license holder. Beer/wine at Jakes? why not, another speakeasy type bar in the back of the building in former retails space..absolutly.
Doesnt this all fall in line with the plan of belmar residents? Movce all of the establishments from ocean ave and create a revitilized main street?
Just watched Jim Beans link to his question. All I learned is Councilman McCracken is an ass!
If all you say is true Buddy, then I wonder what they will do with the old Jack’s on 10th. Especially since the Sunsations building has been vacant for a couple of years now.
Another PILOT deal for DePeppe?
Mark came into office to turn this town around and so far I am happy that he has brought things to light that were buried deep by Matt. He is working us out of a poor situation and keeps working on it. I don’t think what he said to Jim is off base. When the new Lic. owner comes with their plan, we will have to put our trust in Mark/Council to look out for the best interest for the residents. So far he has demonstrated that to me.
#6- Wow, I am so confused. McKrackass sounded exactly like our former mayor with that comment. How is it that when you are ELECTED to a Belmar council/mayor post, you eventually take on the holier that thou attitude. PLEASE, PLEASE vote all these people out. Start now before your next 10% tax increase. ONE VOTE- JIM BEAN, no skin in the game, your community watchdog. And I thought I heard on this blog that Tom Carvell was the idiot. Maybe one of those gals along with Bean would be a good mix.
The time to air your disagreements with the transfer of this license comes when the public is notified. We don’t know what the plans are yet. Two week period to put objections in writing. If none are received the plans go forward.
#10 – Unfortunately, electing one of the democratic candidates is the same as inviting Matt back into the mix. Neither of the women have publicly uttered an independent thought. Did you check out their scripted statements to the Coast Star?
The occupancy alone isn’t the issue. I guess you could fight the number of bars/seating or space for drinking within an establishment since room occupancy may be the same in each place. When I was a kid on 4th Ave we had 2 Irish rooming houses with bars (I have a memory of Irish step dancing on one of them with the full encouragement, or I should say enforcement of my parents;). When the Irish establishments became night clubs the number of patrons soared. It was like having two D’Jais on 4th Ave. Fun times as a kid and teen goofing on the ben…oops I’m not allowed to say that – patrons. Later I lived in NYC and loved being a ben…I mean patron at the shore. I don’t care too much about how busy we get as long as there is a diversity of ben…patrons. I just don’t want too much of the same.
In the summer, Jacks Tavern can serve around 175 people. But it rarely does, and it’s more tables vs. bar stools. My point is, comparing occupancy from place to place isn’t comparing apples to apples, so be careful of that if you’re gonna fight this one.
I second #2’s idea.
Dave, wasn’t Salt license NOT being approved the reason the borough was sued? PREVIOUS ADMINISTRATION. Most residents were all for it, as I recall. No one was to concerned about the seniors when they backed Salt.
Wouldn’t any public comment by mayor and council now open us up to lawsuits?
Isn’t it following the law to NOT comment or give an opinion on any application pryer to a fair hearing and application process?
Having said that I’d like to wait until I see what if anything is proposed before deciding if it’s good or bad.
Each project or application should be judged on its own merits, not on rumor or innuendo.
The Salt application was approved then later, after a lot of investment by the Harmons, denied with a lot of evidence of corrupt motives for the denial.
I agree, Katrina.
11# – I think what Mr Bean is worried about is setting a precedent for future licenses. Larger buildings larger bars.
Just like the precedent for outdoor dining of Jacks let Flames seizing over half the sidewalk.
There is nothing wrong with asking the Mayor if he would have a problem with such a large alcohol establishment. For him to act like he has no idea what Jim was talking about is rude.
The public will have 2 weeks to learn of and get details on the move. Short time.
Thanks Jim for the heads up.
#18- Understand frustration but I think #15 is right. These guys shouldn’t express an opinion publicly or it is likely to come back and bite them in the form of a lawsuit. Wait and see the plans then use the democratic process to either fight the project or applaud it. If buddy the elf is right and the plans do not get approved and the mayor or council is on the record being against it before plans were even submitted; well that could be potentially viewed as bias.
True Dave. But I do not remember any out cry against Salt originally. That’s my point.
That and the fact this administration seems to be trying to do things in the correct and legal manner.
Another point is that the Harmons only wanted to move their license directly across the street and into a smaller premises than it was in before and one that operated only during good weather. In the current case, they want to move it from over two blocks away and into potentially a much larger space.
I do agree the Council needs to stay quiet about it until the hearing.
Which is why asking the m n c to comment is not only unfair but inconsistent with the rule of law.Especially when you know they are NOT allowed to by law.
#22- If what you say is true, perhaps the questioner did not know it was NOT allowed to by law. Perhaps being treated as a black sheep, while on council, may be reason. Cut the guy some slack. I supposed in your eyes McKrackass’s comment was appropriate. I do not, quite Mattish as I’m sure you had been treated in the past. Perhaps, in the future if he doesn’t have anything nice or constructive to add, he should keep his mouth shut. Especially election time. He just lost my vote.
Buddy here again..
Nothing involving the purchase of the building and the license involves Depeppe.
Have also heard rumours of a gym/training center taking the old sunsations space as well as a byob restaurant(however was told the kitchen buildout likly doesnt make this viable do to exhaust venting)
again we are talking about a new concept in town.
I understand all of the hatred for the old political machine and the second guessing of current, but if this area of town is starting to become a hub/destination for visitors could this potentially be a good move? There is a parking lot behind the building and train station walking distance and from my limited political knowledge wouldnt this make for a higher tax takeaway for the town?
again Just here speaking what Santa and I hear…
Also anyone else hear the rumour that djais is closing in on buying the shack on the corner of 19th to “extend their parking lot”. We hear they are looking to enhance an outdoor space as well 😉
The mayor and council should crack down on the bars. If you look at the latest Coast Star in the Belmar and Lake Como sections Police blotter 9 out of 10 arrests the last two weeks of July were people under 30 years old. There attracted to our town for the bars however the tax payer citizens are burden with the cost of police. Sea Girt is cracking down on the Parker House and Belmar should do the same thing to all the bars. They are destroying our town.
Katrina, I didn’t ask if they will approve whatever BeachHaus put in front of them.
Referencing Asbury Park and the liquor licenses there that span a block, I asked if this is something they would consider in Belmar. Last year I asked McGovern and Walsifer if they were in favor of the seasonal licenses being extended. Both had no problem giving their opinion on the record.
The investors want to know the Mayors and council’s stances before investing. They have meetings. Why can’t the public know the stances as well? How is that NOT allowed by law?
I want to know my elected officials’ stance if they support one business per licenses or one per property\building. This is like saying a politician can’t say where he stands on a broad issue until it’s time to vote on it.
If Mayor Doherty refused questions of where he stands on rule changes to liquor licenses to allow a half-a-block bar and you have to wait to see what is approved before you can even ASK him about it, you would be triggered.
How is this? I, Jim Bean, am not in favor of half-a-block bars in Belmar. I’m not in favor of bars that share a license. I believe one license per business. The other licenses in town were purchased this way and it would be unfair to them to start changing the rules. Belmar has enough alcohol. I will apply this thinking to any application that come in from of me. My opinion can change if circumstances change but I’m pretty firm.
If elected, did I just break the law? Am I going to get sued? You guys are too much.
The rumor mill is just that, a RUMOR otherwise known as fake news for the Belmar reclamation pile.
#26 Next it’s three business’s sharing a license. Enough!!! Belmar has enough alcohol.
The mayors comment is kinda funny. Don’t remember Djais coming to the governing body and getting approval for their ever growing outside beer garden in the back and isn’t the patio service only for tables. Many nights that’s not the case. Oh that’s right they are Djais nothing to see here move along
Mc Cracken’s rude, pompous reply is exactly who he is.
Dave has done a magnificent job in developing this forum. Negativity expressed on recent posts will ruin it. This isn’t a bitch site …it was intended to be informative for those Belmar citizens that are truly concerned. Ya wanna bitch talk to your neighbor, friends,or the ones you ridicule here face to face.
There have been some condescending remarks about Jim MaCracken… some vulgar and without warrant. He is probably the most qualified person on the council. In my opinion he is a perfect fit to bring the town forward.
Belmar is a shore resort. Folks come here for the beach, the restaurants and yes the bars. Are you all getting too old to remember when you were looking for a fun night? I’ve never been to the Beach Haus, but the corner looks a whole lot better than when it was freedmans… they buy Jacks licence and do the right thing… they have my blessing and support.
The only way this community will survive and be filled with content and pride is if we stop the negativity.
Belmar has developed into a great place to live… apartments go up … condos get built they are immediately occupied. Business are doing well. We are a special town with a wide cross section of people… let’s just get along! This town faces more issues than D’Jais. Beach Haus, and bars in general. You people bitch about bars but did nothing in response to the recent tax increase… to the overtime in DPW… the police? Prioritize!
hey #30 ….have ya met him ? you have a problem ? man up or woman up and talk to him rather than make a statement under anonymous…
#31 so says a guy living on the north end. Sure add more bars. This quite town needs something to do.
At least they will finally be serving drinkable beer.fyi heard David Burke is on tap to run /open restaurant adjacent to beach house.
#31- Yes, Dave has done an amazing job keeping us informed and providing a forum for the exchange of ideas. However, there have been some pretty harsh and negative comments made over the years. Where have you been? This string of exchanges is actually pretty tame compared to some earlier posts. This isn’t a bitch site? This is the dictionary definition of a bitch site. Also, the #1 issue in Belmar for the last 40 years is quality of life. In other words, BARS. Yes, there was the eight year nightmare that was the Doherty administration and the tax hike we now face largely due to that nightmare. But the worst thing Matt did, in a series of horrible things, was to lower the quality of life in this town. We were on track to reducing the amount of bars and rowdy patrons and Matt changed all that. In the name of political name recognition he opened us up to serious problems. Overtime for DPW? Overtime for cops? All directly or indirectly caused by the increase in power enjoyed by the drinking establishments in this town. Do I remember being young and wanting a fun night out? Yes, I do. But even at my youngest funnest self I never took a dump in someones outdoor shower, I never broke in to someones house to sleep on their couch, I never flipped a car on a 25mph road, I never hit a pedestrian with my car, I never fought with my girlfriend on a residential street at 3am. I could go on and on. The bars in this town have a disproportionate amount of power. BA can be heard on a Tuesday night clear across town. DJais is an a-hole factory in the middle of a residential neighborhood. Litter, vomit, feces, blood, and people. Yes, Belmar is a nice town. It’s a terrific place to live. But those of us that have lived here for 30 plus years know what happens when you don’t enforce the laws that are already on the books. It’s has been, and continues to be, a constant battle.
Also, if someone wants to express an opinion about the behavior of a particular public official anonymously, they can. Like when I used to say ‘Brian McGovern is an arrogant dingbat!’. See? It’s ok.
#26-Jim Bean- You are a passionate fighter and you want whats best for this town. No doubt. But I think that your question was less about the Beach Haus situation and more of an abstract question about whether or not we can do what Asbury does (which is illegal even in Asbury) and allow liquor licences to extend throughout an entire building. I think that is why you got the response you got. If you said directly, ‘Do you feel that it would be ok for a liquor licence to be extended to every business within a particular building?’. I’m pretty sure you would’ve gotten a resounding no. But you seemed to be conflating the two issues. Beach Haus, which they shouldn’t comment on, and the liquor licence extending to the exterior walls of a structure, which they should comment on. Maybe I got that wrong? But that’s what came across on the video to me.
And lastly- #24- That’s all very good intel. The only one that I’d like to address however is the DJais buying ‘the shack’ one. That ‘shack’, as you called it, housed Sidoroffs. Sidoroffs was the best breakfast place from Sandy Hook to Cape May. Only soda you could get was Royal Crown and they made the best PRE&Cs anywhere. Anyway, Frank and his gang have been trying to buy that for over 20 years and the Sidoroff family has refused. Now maybe that has changed? I just wanted to give reverence where reverence is due.
Alcohol is the fuel to make the rich get richer. 2017 Tax rate: Belmar 1.205, Spring Lake .626. Compare the number of bars. Can you say Bloated Budget???? Please don’t try to convince me that by increasing the amount of alcohol served in this town my taxes will go down. Bars take a toll on our resources, water, and infrastructure, roads and sewers. Get with it council or step aside.
#34 Thank you-yes the beach haus beer is TERRIBLE. How that place makes money is beyond me.
Once again Jim Bean has brought a possible issue in town to the forefront that nobody even knew was happening. No matter what your opinion is at least know about it now. Jim, win or lose don’t stop asking questions.
#37, that’s why they need a liquor license. LOL
All of you old people complaining about bars have a big ole stick up your rear end. From what I’m told from my older friends, the bars were way crazier back in the day. You all know what Belmar has always been, a bar town. You knew that 30 years ago when you first came here and used to go out. As much as you want it to be, Belmar will never be Spring Lake or Ocean Grove. Belmar is tame now compared to what used to happen here. Now you are all old and don’t go out. Young people love Belmar because it has several fun places to go, which provides tons of revenue for landlords, local businesses and the town. Yes the summer time guidos are the worst and the police always have their hands full, but you all want the police force cut! Seems like an oxymoron. Newsflash, the bars aren’t leaving Belmar, but you all sure can!
Obstinate oppositional rants benefits no one in Belmar. Put your contributions and positive accomplishments out there, on the table now, before the election, so voters can make a decision made more on substance than bluster.
Thanks Sam Spade. It’s clear the Jim Bean was/is creating a problem before there is one or before it arises. He was conflating two things, and McCracken called him out on it. I don’t think McCracken was being cocky, he was calling it as he sees it.
Young Person: it’s ok to want to live in a fun town near bars and demand that the bars and police control the level of violations committed by patrons. Where do you live?
Sam Spade is my hero!!!!! Amen, amen, amen!!!! This post is everything! Everything I have tried to explain and bring to the forefront for years! Kenny Pringle was on a road to helping the quality of life, although I’m not sure he went far enough. The Doherty administration took everything he put in place for quality of life away, and the current administration has all but ignored it! And to the Young Person…you must be young, because there was a time when Belmar was a very nice family friendly beach community…the bar scene and crazy you speak of happened in the late 80’s and got really crazy with MTV on the beach in the early 90’s. Us old people long for the days when you could actual sleep with your windows open in the summer a few blocks from D’Jais! My family has been in this town for over 100…you move! I’m not going anywhere!
#42 – McCracken may have been calling it as he saw it – but he was rude & cocky with his delivery. Memories of Doherty… intimidate those who disagree.
Jim Bean & Groudhog Days your concern /question about extending the license inside the building and if it would be allowed has already been answered FYI it’s already been done in town La Dolce Vita & La Terraza . Two separate building 1 liquor license so the idea that the town would be able to stop it when it’s all under one roof is slim at best.
I’ve lived locally my whole life and particularly in south side of Belmar for the last 8. Yes there are summer nights that can be loud, and bar patrons can be completely disrespectful, but I knew that when I moved in and I accept it. There’s no excuse for that behavior but it comes with the territory. People just love to bitch and complain. Non-stop. They want their cake and to eat it too. If its so bad to live next to a bar and in a town that caters to that kind of business since the 1980s and 90s, and you are still upset with how things are developing now, in 2020, then why do you still live here?!? Because guess what, just like a gallon of gas will never cost what it was 40, 50, 60 years ago ever again, you probably wont have quiet summer nights in this town ever again.
#45 it started long before that Pat’s diner and Waterview pavillion.
Hey #46- Have a flavored seltzer, take a pull off the vape, post a selfie, and relax. We’re just asking that the bars have no more power than the citizens. It’s not a nostalgia thing. It’s an ordinance thing.
#46 – Interesting comparisons but they don’t hold water. Yes, people tend to complain. But what went on many years ago in no way equates to the mayhem the bloggers here are talking about. Once behavior goes beyond a certain point, then there’s a problem. And Belmar has been beyond that [certain point] for quite some time now. Things are now beyond any real control. The police and courts have no real ability to prevent anything now (they’re just managing to tread water). As you say, there’s no turning back now. The die is cast and at some point, there’ll be a riot of some sort and people will stand around and be perplexed as to how this happened. I’m an old guy and have been through some interesting times myself, but I never thought I’d live to see such fascinating times. Very, very interesting to watch people daily defy basic logic and wonder why their lives are such a mess.
Excellent #48. And he probably doesn’t care that his property taxes went up 10%. Duh, silly me, he doesn’t care about taxes, he still lives at home with Mommy and Daddy.
#48 Spare me the stupid stereotypes. You oldies sound like you want the town to age with you. You know it won’t so you just complain, complain complain.
#49 I’ll start by saying I respect your perspective as a more experienced and elder citizen. But, when you were younger I guarantee the “mayhem that is beyond any control” you speak of now was similar if not worse. You make it seem like it’s the end of times, which I’m sure your elders thought was going on when you were young. As long as the nut job leftists don’t turn the country into more of socialist state I think we’ll be ok. But I digress…The major difference now is that everyone is carrying a super computer and video camera around in their pocket and can record/report/complain about every little thing that happens on the internet and blogs like this. I just find it crazy that people who move next to a Jersey Shore bar, complain that its busy and loud. Maybe you should consider that before moving there? Anyway, why don’t people approach the problem a different way….go after the landlords that let 20 to 30 guidos stay in their 2 bedroom summer rentals??? Seems like that could be a way to cut down on the shenanigans that happen in the streets after hours. Thats never brought up. But then again, I’m sure that would be touching someones money….
#46 = Sorry you’re getting beat up a little. Some good points about bitching, yes, but I have to disagree with the if you don’t like it, leave mentality. It never helped a town, country, family, school, workplace, etc., get better. Maybe you’re only talking to people who hate every bar for no good reason. Hope so. Because it’s perfectly normal to reign in the crazy so a community can continue to have diverse offerings. Night club owners want to make money. They’re not going to reign themselves in. We have to do it.
Could a comparison of Jim’s question be made to a PILOT agreement? If there was a rumor of a developer purchasing a large lot on main street asking for a PILOT would it be appropriate to ask Mayor Walsifer where he stands on PILOT programs?
I believe someone actually did asked Mayor Walsifer this year about a PILOT program and a building going up. The Mayor had no problem giving a broad view of what he would agree to. Whats the difference?
#51 Yes, going after dead beat landlords has been brought up many times. The 20-30 people in 2 BR houses see lots of police activity and fines. Many of these landlords do annual rentals. The dead beat landlords are not directly connected to D’Jais. Indirectly, their investments survive because they’re among the seasonal rentals and the summer-only owners. The fewer, year round occupied owners aren’t enough voices to make a difference I guess. The annual tenants are very kind, rent-on-time-every-month tenants who are afraid to speak up and demand better accommodations/stricter police presence. They’re just happy to be in a place where there’s plenty of local work and kids can walk to school. The absentee landlords wouldn’t live here if you paid them. So, the situation is this: there’s not enough people complaining….bet you are thrilled your posts have brought that conclusion. As long as there’s plenty of territory for absentee landlords to feel they can operate a slum, they’ll operate a slum. And the few neighbors who care will complain. You’ll move away when you’re kids go to 1st grade, and we’ll still be here trying to improve the situation.
Aileen, thank you for your response. Yes, in general I am talking about the people who hate every bar and event in town involving people enjoying themselves for a night out. It just sounds like the “get off my lawn” mentality. Hating for the sake of hating and over exaggerating events and generalizing an entire segment of the population. I agree that when things get out of hand measures need to be taken to reign things in. But some of the comments saying that patrons are causing the end of times and it’s worse than ever is laughable. There’s bad eggs just like every other segment of the population. Do you have any thoughts on landlords letting 20-30 guidos in a small rental as a contributing factor?
#51-Sorry about the stereotyping but I was fighting fire with fire. You were engaging in a bit of it yourself.
The landlord thing has been brought up a thousand times. When Pringle was mayor there was major enforcement and during that time many animal houses were sold and new single family homes built. That’s a good thing. Trust me. But when Mayor Doherty took over, the enforcement was traded in for a more lax approach in order to get some name recognition from outside his constituency. He had bigger political plans than little old belmar. The complaints about the bars is merely about making sure they follow the rules on the books. That’s all. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. The people that are doing something about it have lived in this town the longest. The ‘Belmar-love it or leave it’ nonsense is just that: nonsense. We do something about it BECAUSE we love it. I actually agree with your point about #49s rants. He doesn’t seem to realize that his parents and grandparents had the same exact feelings about his generation. It’s as old as when man started walking upright. It’s not about generations. It’s about reigning in the bars so that we can all live here peacefully. They need to be held accountable just like any other business. This fight has been going on since before you were born and if you decide to stay here and raise a family, like the rest of us did, it will be your fight one day.
Am I on the right site ? Common Sense For Belmar? Where’s the common sense? We are a beach town… a weekend get away…a seasonal attraction. kids, families, come spend their money and have fun at the beach, the restaurants …. and yes the bars. This town was dying 25 years ago … look at all the new construction… old houses being torn down and monster houses being built.. the south end too is going through a rival… stop bitching so much and have such negativity… the regulars on this site are often nasty… offensive… that’s not common sense … that’s just being rude… ya wanna change things ? go to the meetings… stand up and voice your opinion… I’ve owned homes in places and have seen towns that attacked restaurants and bars and they died a slow death… cost jobs… remained vacant for years and never fully recovered. This is a great town… full of great people and yes alot of out of towners in season but that what we are …I knew that when I bought my home … i expected the traffic … the noise… the kids doing what kids do … cause we all did it at one stage in our life. You think we are the exception to the jersey shore… were not… every town near the beach goes through it and not only in jersey. Wake up and let’s bring common sense back to this site and to Belmar and stop BITCHING all the time. I wish you all would bitch about tax increases and the way the last administration hurt this town as much as ya bitch about bars… It’s common sense!
I will not promote Romanian pride to offset the “guido” references. In fact, former Mayor Pringle got into a bit of a jam with using the term “guido.” It is interesting that no one jumped onto that train, with some of the PC crowd keeping track.
Yo!
We’re here to make a mess
Of this we do confess
We’ll pee on your lawn
And poop in your car
Don’t ever change
We love you Belmar!
I’d say simply call the police and report that you notice 20-30 people living in a 2 br house. Without a warrant it’s hard to enforce the occupancy, but the animal house ordinance cracks down on the party houses and the residents can call the police every night if they want to stop the cycle.
#57, it was cleaning up the bars that created the building up of Belmar. Keeping an eye on alcohol establishments to make sure Belmar doesn’t slip back into the good old days is all that is happening. That is common sense.
#59 grow up ! your poem was a disgrace… send ur mom and dad a copy …sure they will be less than proud. ur the trash they are all complaining about… but ur the few not the many ….i welcome the day trippers… the seasonals …just show some respect !
Aileen… you worry about summer rentals ? why not focus on the multi mexican families that violate occupancy laws and invade our school system … have you ever been near the school around 3:00 … you would think you’re in mexico…all coming out of my and your taxes …wake up and see the real problem.
hey #61… there are more bar/restaurants today in town than ever … what cave are you living in ?
what closed?
the trop
montigo bay
reggies
what opened?
beach haus
marina grill
10th ave burrito
flames
la terrazza
dolce vita
not to mention all the restaurants that do byob
wake up !
#62 Lo siento mucho. NOT. Have a cerveza corona and chill. Buenas noches.
#62 – Sir/Madam, Aileen is well aware of the alien intruders who go to our school free of charge. She’s part of the coven that makes up most of our BOE.
Hey Sam- I asked before and I’ll ask again. Where’ve you been? This site is about 80% bitching about tax increase and Doherty and about 20% bitching about bars. Yes belmar is booming, has been for the last nearly 20 years. Mostly because a lot of the bars closed down. And the enforcement of animal house laws caused a lot of slum lords to sell the dilapidated houses and they were replaced by new single family dwellings.
We’re just trying to keep the bar owners honest. The poem by #59 is actually pretty accurate. I can tell you haven’t lived here long.
Your mad at the Mexican families? I thought when you bought your house you expected ‘the noise and the traffic and the kids doing what kids do’? Why didn’t you also expect the see some brown people? I mean, they’re still people aren’t they? Maybe you should have thought of that before you bought your house. Sheesh, stop bitching already. How about being mad at the slum lords who make a fortune renting to them with full knowledge that occupancy laws are being broken. They can be true slum lords because they know tenants won’t risk complaining. But yea, let’s not hold the people that employ them or the people that rent their s-hole houses to them responsible. I mean, after all, they may also be breaking the law… but they look just like us.
#65 Normally I read your posts with a detached amusement. But that’s my wife you’re talking about. You wanna disagree with her during your ‘society going to hell’ complaining sessions, go ahead. But do not insult her. Clear?
You’re right, I went too far – my apology’s.
#67 I thought it was completly ok for Tom to critize your wife’s performance. However if he does not have proof then it was an above average insult.
Hey #66 … I tell ya what… meet me at the next council meeting and I would be glad to discuss the issues and where ive been lately… have you been to the council meetings? stood up ? voiced your concerns
? people here bitch but do nothing publicly to either support or raise questions about what is happening in town.
I have no problem with brown people … your comment was insulting … you don’t know me and what I stand for… who I like or dislike. If your a legal immigrant I welcome you with open arms… if you live within the building codes and pay your fare share, I’m happy.
So you know, I’ve lived in town for 25 years and yes, I love this town… ur negativity like others here is what will ruin it.
You applaud the poem cause you feel it accurately depicts it’s abundantcy? Me on the other hand think that the guido and guidettes should be in Slezside… it would be a better fit for them but the vast majority of visitors for the 3-4 months they come are good …decent people and help the town prosper.
You and your cronies here are what has kept me away and most likely many others.
Bars aren’t the biggest problem here the negativity is… your bitching here does nothing …stand up and voice your issues and concerns.
#70 Bars and the people who have run this town for the last 10 years are the problem. The people who come here for three or four months in the summer wreck the town. Crap crap and more crap from the damn drunks
#70- No, thank you. I’ll just bitch. I don’t believe in civic duty.
I’m sorry for insulting you. When you said ‘have you been to the school at 3:00? You’d think you’re in Mexico’ I mistakenly took that as you not liking brown people. My bad. I’m sure you’d have the same distaste if they were Canadians here illegally. You would’ve said something like ‘have you been to the school at 3:00? You’d think you’re in Ottawa!’
seems the novelty of a brewery pub wore off and Beach Haus wants a full retail liquor consumption license
Beach Haus pays Belmar property taxes and I’m OK with the Jack’s Tavern license purchase … if the license is used west of Main Street
I agree, Eugene
73: Exactly!
Actually, I misread. Sorry. I’m fine with it as long as it’s not a night club. And who knows what can be considered west of Main St.? The room with the tables at the Beach Haus is west of Main St. – you can fit a lot of people in there. It could be a separate entrance. We can make rules, they can make loop holes.
73: Actually this move by definition would make them a brew pub. Someone can correct me.
I think their beer is fine and I personally love bringing friends and family from out of town to the place.
77- It already is a brew pub. The new liquor licence will allow then to serve other types of beer and alcohol. I guess it’s a matter of preference but I do not like the beer they produce. The place is cool though.
#77 … I think u r correct … the Beach Haus brewery license, together with a retail liquor consumption license, are necessary to create a brewery pub?
