Don’t get why Kivvit is posted. What’s the point? Isn’t her husband out of office? What message are you trying to send? What reaction do you expect from this post?
You’re still paying off the bonds for Ashbritt, Ferreira and J H Reid.
It absolutely amazes me that people either don’t want to except or do not want to realize the fact that Belmar will be “ recovering” from Matt Doherty’s time as mayor for years to come. Just because he is no longer in office doesn’t mean we do not have to pay for the damage he perpetuated.
Wasn’t that during Hurricane Sandy? Didn’t we need the services of those companies?
At what point can we stop blaming Doherty. It will become a cop out soon. And speaking of cops, the true test of whether this new administration is really dedicated to reducing our spending will be to see what decisions they make in #1- Replacing the Acting Police Chief, #2- whether they waste more money and promote another un-needed Captain and #3, whether they hire an replacement officer when coneman leaves. Ya won’t be able to blame that on Doherty. Time will tell. They now have the opportunity to save big money.
Tina is going to be the next Chief, First female chief in Belmar history, and you can take that to the bank.
5-Agree about Doherty. Give it up. Companies were brought in to deal with the havoc Hurricane Sandy wrought on Belmar. We came back from the devastation more quickly than any other community hit by the storm. So Kivvit is highlighted because the company was somehow involved in bringing us back from Sandy? Our quality of life was restored promptly thanks to the town’s leadership and the companies mentioned in comment #2. Other towns in the area are also still paying down the debt caused by Sandy. The unexpected was/is costly to all of the local communities. Why would anyone still be pointing fingers (needlessly) when those involved during that horrific period did all that they could to serve and help residents to restore their lives? Leave Kivvit alone. Bringing that company up just demonstrates unnecessary vindictiveness. Ridiculous.
#5…. Well said… Living in the past serves no purpose… Keep the pressure on the current administration so we don’t get screwed again…
With our luck, these characters we’ve got in office will be the first to have dual acting police chiefs – one for days and one for nights, rotating weekends, one on, one off.
I’ll stop blaming Dorehty when we pay off the millions of dollars of bond debt he took out. When the outflow pipe, that Engineering was incorrectly bid and not reimbursed by HUD is paid off. When we figure out why the boardwalk figures were incorrect and FEMA wants over a million dollars back, when we get to the bottom of why we never got any FEMA money for the “free” Taylor Pavillion.
Belmar will be paying for Matts legacy for generations.
2-Why are you bent on bringing up issues that are no longer relevant? All towns are still paying back for Sandy Expenses. What do you get out of this? What satisfaction do you realize? You haven’t lived here for a while. Putting Kivvit in your comment for what reason? Why are you doing this? Get a life. Can’t believe that you still want to roil the waters shows someone who needs to concentrate on positive things. You want Belmar people to say, oh he’s such a great guy, still looking after Belmar issues? Really? Step back and look at how odd this all looks. You still want to be Belmar’s champion. You don’t live here anymore! Get another issue to pursue. All of your fans are saying great! He’s targeting Kivvit. Bringing back things . All towns still have Sandy costs on the books. Stay out of Belmar business. You just want to stir up trouble. Examine why you’re still doing this. For what reason? To keep your blog going? Give it up. Concentrate on your present surroundings. Find issues where you are presently living. Belmar should be in your rear view mirror . Do you need to have people tell you how great you are? If you still wish to be connected to Belmar, why did you move out of state? Move back to Belmar if you have such concerns.
10-We had a horrible situation with Hurricane Sandy. You obviously don’t know what had to be done to bring the town back to reality. You have no solid , first hand information about what was going on, and needed to be done. You have no idea about what was happening. From the beginning, you criticize. Former Mayor Doherty was a leader and an example for those in other communities who suffered the damages from Hurricane Sandy. All towns have debt incurred from Sandy. Yet you can’t see this. Actually, Belmar is better off after Sandy than other towns. How did you expect us to come back if money wasn’t spent, You’re way off with your information.
Instead of worrying about old news take a look at who and what is happening in your current administration.
Start to OPRA what and who is being paid and for what. And the new year is coming, wait for those “bonus” and/or pay raises.
You people always have and always will look at all of the wrong things. Be smart about things if you are really looking for something.
Let’s not keep talking about Matt Doherty and his wife Maggie. Look at what you currently have in office.
Then maybe people will start reading and caring about this blog again, other then Tom, Katrina and Aileen.
You have a group of Cops running the town, is that really what we want and need? Especially cops that have worked together and are friends. They will certainly cover each others backside no matter what.
#13…. EXACTLY… Look to the future.. Let’s see what happens with the new police leadership… Will it be cash neutral, an increase in spending or hopefully a savings….
2-The cleanup and restoration was swift here in Belmar after Sandy thanks to the Kivvit connections to the companies mentioned in 2. Just reading these comments for the first time. People seem to think we should let Doherty go. It’s a new day. I agree.
So, the previous administration should never be held responsible for possible illegalities? That is everything they could ever hope for. They’re counting on the heat to be taken off of them. Sure, we need to deal with the present & plan for the future – but that doesn’t mean we should ignore the misdeeds of the past that brought us into our current debt situation. I certainly hope the town continues trying to get to the bottom of some past shady actions.
16-Much of the debt incurred grew from coming back from Hurricane Sandy.
#16… Making poor financial decisions is not a crime…. Keep your eye on the current administration, so we are not blogging about their financial mistakes 5 years from now….
16-“Possible illegalities?” Never confirmed. Key word is possible .
Nothing illegal.
I agree that we should look to the future but not forget the shenanigans of the past administration. The matter of the cleanup that has not been mentioned is that one company was hired for the cleanup and then fired and Ashbritt, a Maggie referral, was hired. The broken contract resulted in a lawsuit, as I recall. So what? Another lawsuit is what. Don’t call me a Negative Nelly, but Belmar minions promoted Ashbritt to Avon or Bradley, as I recall. Did Maggie/Kivvit get some kind of compensation for obtaining new work for Ashbritt? Maybe I am in error, but my memory is pretty darn good. Belmar capitalized on a crisis, in my opinion. Enough with the Sandy. I move on.
“Poor” financial decisions? Is that what you want us to believe now? Please! You were financially screwed over. Open your eyes & your mind.
#19 – How can you be so sure???
Nothing illegal-no compensation for Kivvit.

Admin… I truly enjoy reading your blog and find the information very informative… The past Belmar administration was SLIMY to say the least… Many of their decisions were clearly unethical which leads me to this comment… Some unethical behavior is illegal and criminal, however other types of unethical behavior falls into the civil arena of the law… Belmar is hit with a lot of law suits, but there has never been any jail time for the previous leadership….
It appears that a few (local) people made some nice pocket change after Sandy. Doherty supporters – please read #24 and then try to defend your claims that everything was on the up & up. Look forward to reading that line of reasoning.
24&25
Not illegal.
Just unethical?
#28, pretty low bar you’ve set.
Here’s a little bit of good news:
https://www.tapinto.net/towns/belmar-slash-lake-como/articles/belmar-earns-11-000-state-grant-for-robust-recycling-efforts-leads-monmouth-county-with-93-recycling-rate
If you can prove a kickback was involved then it is illegal… But good luck proving that… I am not saying there wasn’t, just proving it will most likely be next to impossible…
Thanks, admin, for posting the links about the debris cleanup.
As the long time readers know that only scratches the surface of what went on here. Not enough time to write a complete history.
#31- Thanks for the info. That’s a lot of beer bottles. It’s no wonder DeLisa’s recycling bill came in so high. I/we pay for those empty beer cans in some way or another. And I don’t even drink. alcohol. And it’s wonderful we can use the grant to fund a recycling coordinator. Another Campbell stipend. Show me some real budget cuts.
#34 – That’s too bad. No one would have had enough time or energy to keep track of, and make public, all the questionable political activities that happened in the past. Most Belmar citizens have no idea. Still hoping that some truth will come out and some culpability acknowledged.
