Just watched the singing of the National Anthem at the Daytona 500. Over 200,000 fans, all standing with their hats off. No elitism, just pride for our country. The same country that gave Jay Z and Beyonce the opportunity to become billionaires.
Ken Pringle: Remember Belmar Playland? Thanks for allowing the over development of houses on Ocean Ave and ruining children having fun!
Yeah that was fun – that’s where I bought my first joint.
What is going on with this blog? The comments are ridiculous.
Jay Z and Beyonce sat with his hat on during the national anthem at the super bowl. They need some lessons from the south.
#4 – Only to be expected – just a pair of dummies.
They are famous because you care about them. Don’t you know there is a whole world out there. Why do you get caught up in the lowest common denominator and you don’t even like the people you support? Stop watching them. They’ll go away.
#2….. Pringle did many good things for Belmar… He is a good man, so please stop…
#2- And if Matt or Mark were there then they would have built condos on Ocean Ave. Oh, by the way, doesn’t our present mayor live in one of those houses on Ocean Ave. you call over development.
Ken Pringle helped keep Belmar from turning into the biggest, sloppiest party town around. He helped bring families back to our area. Thank you, Mr. Pringle.
#7… He destroyed the beach front with over development. Belmar Playland and other entertainment spots lost to Pringle’s nonsense. Pringle did no good for Belmar, LOL!
#10…. You should listen to #9, this person has got it right… Pringle’s policies allowed Belmar real estate values to increase…
#11 – Sir/Madam, The question is, was Belmar better off because of his tenure? Not everything in life is about money.
#12 – Yes – it is certainly better off. Do you remember all the animal houses and constant partying? Belmar had a negative reputation back then and families stayed away.
#10, so go to the arcade across from the BES and play with the kiddies. How that got spot zoned is interesting. Par-tayyy!
#13…. Exactly…. Tom your correct everything is not about money… However towns with a better quality of life have higher realestate values… So I will correct my statement…. Pringle`s policies created a better quality of life for Belmar home owners…
If Belmar playland still existed during the Doherty administration it would be another nightclub in disguise as a bar restaurant.
The term animal house wouldn’t have been a thing if it weren’t for Pringle trying to strong arm landlords into not renting to summer goers. I blame Ken Pringle & Jack Hill for letting the ocean front turn into what it is now.
Right now, its an over developed beach front with huge houses. The taxes being paid by these property owners couldn’t compare to some of the cash that the night clubs use to make. Thank you Pringle & Hill for this!
#17 – Animal House was a “thing” long before Mr. Pringle was ever mayor. Let me see if I understand your thinking… You would prefer to have many homes overflowing with loud, likely inebriated, renters – AND – an oceanfront full of nightclubs? Imagine having a D’Jais atmosphere all up & down Ocean Ave! No thanks!
#17 what does comparison of real estate tax and a business gross profit have to do with each other.
It seems BelmarGuy is a little uninformed about how real estate taxes work. And – he’s unhappy that Ocean Ave is not a bevy of bars & nightclubs, with a fun little playland/arcade thrown in for good measure.
The point of that ordinance was to stop absentee landlords from profiting from people who would abuse our community. These are landlords who would not improve our community but rather rent too large groups who overcrowd the rentals and disrupt our community without consequence. This law holds such properties, and as such, their landlords responsible for the disruption they cause to our neighborhoods. Perhaps a nightly house party isn’t an issue for most Belmar residents, but for a few, it is.
I think Ken Pringle was great for the town. Many improvements were seen during his tenure as mayor. My problem with him was his superior attitude. On a few occasions, my husband and I would be speaking to him, and if had enough of the conversation, he’d turn his back-end of conversation. Maybe he was justified, but our conversations weren’t demanding or boring. Just basic town stuff. Not even long….others have experienced the same thing. Surprising-since he is in the business of representing people… both as an attorney and mayor .
King Kenny was no saint. He recalled his own relative, then mayor Hernandez. She started the midnight bar closing to bring sanity back to this town. King Kenny fought to bring it back to 2am. That was the beginning of the devisiveness in this town and it has spiraled out of control ever since, on every issue that arises in this tiny town. Hence making Belmar the laughing stock of the shore.
Music Festival on Jersey Shore Ends in Melee With 28 Arrests

It’s interesting how no one remembers this. This was the crowning “achievement” (starting a riot) of mayor Pringle’s tenure in office.

Fighting and bottle-throwing broke out late yesterday afternoon toward the end of a weekend-long sports and music festival along the beach in Belmar, N.J., and the police in riot gear were called in to quell the disturbance.
Some vehicles were overturned and windows were broken in oceanfront houses when the crowd was forced off the beach by the police. One man said he was knocked off his motorcycle, which was then stolen, and the town’s Mayor, Kenneth Pringle, said he was struck on the head with a bottle as he directed traffic.
About 30 people were treated for minor injuries at Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune, a hospital spokeswoman said. The police said 28 people were arrested on charges of failure to disperse or disorderly conduct. All of those arrested were released on their own recognizance, the police said.
The disturbance, which came after the police interrupted a performance by the rap group Kriss Kross, took place on the second day of the MTV Sports Festival, a series of concerts and recreational sports competitions sponsored by MTV, the music television network.
At a news conference last night, Mayor Pringle said that 75,000 had attended the festival yesterday, about twice the number that attended on Saturday. By mid-afternoon several skirmishes on the beach among those at the festival led the Belmar police to try to bring the event to a close.
By 5 P.M., Mr. Pringle said, some people in the crowd, responding to orders by the police to leave the beach and boardwalk, spilled onto nearby side streets and were throwing bottles and kicking cars. It became clear the police would not be able to restore order, he said, so they called for assistance from surrounding towns.
Many concertgoers were black, and some said that when the police ordered them from the beach, white residents yelled racial slurs. Asked if he would characterize the incident as a racial disturbance, Mayor Pringle said, “Not completely, but that was the undercurrent.”
Similar to the Wednesday night FREE Concerts held weekly all summer in the Point Pleasant Beach led by Conductor, Fr. Alphonse, hosted by the Storinos?
I miss bringing my lawn chair to Silver Lake, many years ago, to hear the beautiful weekly concerts. Never saw anyone throw a bottle!
#23 Pringle and Hernandez are not related and never were related you bring this up every couple of years and the 12 o’clock closing sounded like a good idea in the beginning but it was a huge fail to all that is why the town voted to repeal it get over it.
#24: You tend to forget, there were reasons for those riots, not that it makes it right or justified.
Richard Tarzian was approved to throw a MTV concert event on the beach. Unfortunately
the kid pop rap group chris kross never showed up, people got pissed & that’s how the riots started.
I remember the riot like it was yesterday. Here I was only 7 years old living on 16th avenue & they were selling water guns near dunkin donuts while others were setting fires & flipping cars.

there were reasons for those riots
———————————–
Of course there were “reasons” for the riot.
The main one was the mayor didn’t know enough to not allow a concert once he heard it was sponsored by MTV. Even a 4 legged animal would’ve known not to allow an event that had anything to do with MTV.
