This is the type of thing Belmar needs for large development projects. Anything major should be put to the town. That way a developer would need to convince the whole community that it is in their best interest, instead of just the select few on the dais.
Dave how much does everyone participate in voting? It’s really interesting and a little confusing. What happens if issues come up through the year? And what is your towns debt and population ?
I remember in 2018 a major sewer line broke under one of the salt marshes and they had a special vote in August to appropriate the money to fix it. Population is 15,000. Not sure of the voting population or participation rate.
Check out this report for 2019. They’ve published these every year for nearly 400 years (!). Everything you could possibly want to know…stuff we have to OPRA to get… is in there. I don’t have time right now to look but all the financial info is in there.
