Next we hear from Ocean County Freeholder Joe Vicari, who knows exactly how long it should take to repair 13,000 downed wires. Apparently he believes the boys at JCP&L are instead just hanging out at Dunkin’ Donuts and don’t care about restoring power to their customers.
From today’s Asbury Park Press:
By late Wednesday [isn’t this Wednesday morning?], Ocean County Freeholder Director Joseph H. Vicari had issued a statement scolding the electric company over the issue.
“We have more than 32,000 households in Ocean County, many of them senior citizens, who still do not have power,” Vicari said. “This is an unacceptable situation, and I asked that JCP&L do everything possible to restore service to these homes.”
Vicari said individual households are losing hundreds of dollars worth of food and the health of senior citizens was at risk.

JCP&L issued this statement in their defense (how dare they!) :
We certainly understand the frustration and inconvenience that a loss of power causes home and business owners. We are doing all that we can to restore service as safely and efficiently as possible.

If Joe Vicari knows so much about power systems, he should open up his own power company. After all, if JCP&L is so incompetent, then Vicari Power Company should have no problem competing with them.

Dave, JCPL is a government controlled monopoly, and as long as JCPL has no competition, they have no motivation to figure out how to improve or speed up service. Joe is just paying lip service to voters with no electricity. Even if Joe wanted to start a power company he would have to get permission from the State. I would think fake heat from a political person is better then no heat from a political person. If he really cared he would push for a deregulated JCPL, then let the free market give us better service.
