As reported in today’s Coast Star, Belmar has backed off on it’s ridiculous and unlawful requirement that landlords submit a copy of the lease and of the tenant’s driver’s license before they can get a CO for a rental.
According to Bill Young, borough administrator, the borough wanted a copy of the lease and each tenant’s driver license because it made them “run more efficient.”
“We knew exactly who was in the home,” he said. “It cut out a lot of red tape.”
No, Mr. Young. It IS red tape. And we don’t want the government to be “more efficient” at sticking it’s nose into our affairs.
