Mayor…. Even Asbury Park has closed its boardwalk… This is truly a new all-time LOW…
I never get the sense the good people of Belmar are the top priority.
Shut the boardwalk……..Do jumping jacks outside instead
How about same basic Commonsense rules: Stay to the right. Respect the space of others. Leave the boardwalk to the walkers and have the joggers move to the street. Stay conscious of your fellow walkers and minimize mixing about.
or close ocean ave like they did after Sandy to provide more area to keep a distance from others
Ok so this is today , whats the plan when this over , in regards to social distancing ? Does the town of Belmar have or even thought of current occupancy limits at are Bars and Restaurants , Rentals ? If anyone thinks we will be going back to normal in a few weeks are living in a dream world. I’ll be the first to say this is last thing the entertainment industry needs but the days of standing shoulder to shoulder at the local watering hole or sitting table next to table are going to come to end for awhile and the powers that be should start working on a plan now. Think about it in little over a month its summer and people are coming and lots of them ,the same crew that was partying it up in Florida over spring break are coming to Belmar and they will be ready to Party and the Town the should ready for the onslaught.
Don’t let people in the country from places where they eat bats.
The vegetarians have it right. I learn lessons from the spirits of lions and armadillos but would not eat them.

Heard the Pt Pleasant will not allow Summer Rentals this year – is this even legal ? There is a real mess going on in The Hamptons in Long Island – where a lot of sick New Yorkers headed to the Hamptons – be nice to limit the Seasonal’s to year round this year
This Mayor and Council are in over their heads and need to consider the exposure to our first responders dealing with extra people on the boardwalk, or visiting the borough. The boardwalk needs to be closed immediately and discourage people from visiting Belmar.

What a lame excuse blaming walking on a crowded boardwalk from an outdoor activity suggestion that the Governor made. The Governor did NOT mean for people to go to favorite gathering spots like the Belmar Boardwalk. What part of stay at home and life or death does this mayor not understand?

the easiest way for Belmar to reduce crowds at the beachfront is pay parking on Ocean Avenue … make it 24/7 and expensive.
4 – Great thoughts, but unfortunately common sense is not the norm these days. It is sad how we are witnessing displays of selfishness and disregard for our most fragile members of society. Selfishness which is becoming a true mans inhumanity to man.
I agree with George. Some common sense would work fine right now. Reconsider closing portions when it gets more crowded.
I’m a bit on the fence on this. On the one hand, you’ve got the virus issue and on the other, you’ve got the idea of people actually getting outdoors. I lean towards it’s a good thing people are outdoors. We were out walking the other day (not on the boardwalk) and saw an unfortunate looking family, two overweight adults, two overweight children and an overweight dog out walking. From the look of their pasty white skin tones, they hadn’t been out of doors for more than 9 mins. in the last 6-7 years. So, it’s a good thing they’re out.
Funny how not one comment in favor of how this Mayor is handling this situation. I originally thought I was on the wrong blog as three,four months ago this guy was our savior that replaced Matt. Where are all you people, too embarrassed to speak. HAHA, You got what you deserve, absolutely NOTHING.
Congratulations to this mayor as he soars for the win of the race to the bottom. But din’t all fret because we will all get participation trophy’s.
It is starting to get a little to crowded on the boardwalk the safe distance is starting to close in , I think the runners should get the boardwalk and the walkers should stick to the sidewalk which I believe would be impossible to enforce so they should shut it down now before the weather gets any nicer and I did support this new administration and I believe they will come to their senses.
And when your property taxes go up AGAIN this year don’t say I didn’t warn ya. He’ll blame the coronavirus. To an extent I would have to agree. You leave the boardwalk open. One of the only left in the area. Cowboys flock from Lakewood, infect one of our Police Officers and now you need to pay overtime to cover for that Officer. Hence, your taxes go up. DUH. How bout some spending cuts like was requested last year.

Please, let’s not compare Mayor Walsifer to Dirty Doherty. My family and I voted for Walsifer. Hes a good man but has made some questionable decisions. As of now, I agree to monitor the situation and let people safe distance on the boardwalk.
The worst thing Walsifer was make that opportunist Frank Centelli the “special events coordinator” What the hell kind of a made up BS position is that? At 70 plus thousand dollars he does absolutely nothing! Ask anyone. Now I see he has a take home suv! Mayor Walsifer, cut the fat and start with this guy.
#26… I would agree with you about people safe distancing if it were purely Belmar fulltime residence on the boardwalk… Just look at the pictures on the other post regarding this topic…. Along the boardwalk you cant find an empty parking space… There are disrespectful individuals from other areas infesting Belmar… Close the boardwalk in an effort to reduce out of town traffic… I will not visit my Belmar home at this time because I would not be honoring my civic duty as a resident of NJ…

“Prevention” is not usually practiced in Belmar. Rather, it is ignore the rules, let everyone do everything and then deal with the consequences.

Summer Timer please shut up! The administration did not put people at risk. I walk the boardwalk every day and people practiced safe distancing with no one congregating. If people felt unsafe, no one forced them to stroll the boardwalk. Its America and you can make your own decisions. For those adults that felt safe walking, that’s their decision. Please stop sticking your nose where it doesn’t belong and worry about what’s going on in Bayonne. Were mature enough down here to figure it out.

I agree with WOW on this. It’s all more or less the latest hoax being perpetrated on America. As WOW says, there is only a couple of groups susceptible to this virus, old people and people with pre-existing medical conditions. If you maintain a normal lifestyle, you’ll be fine. This is just the latest power grab by the government. as the founding Fathers said, the greatest danger to our liberties would always come from the government.

This is somewhat off topic but I think it is important to mention this. I just read an article that Macau’s gambling is down 80%. Matt should fly there immediately to get them back on their feet. This is right up his alley. Everybody knows he’s a real troubleshooter. Of course, the 14 day quarantine would be waived in his case.
