BU picks up tab
Don’t you think it’s kind of unfair that Belmar and Avon get to pay their specials out of their beach utilities but Lake Como has to pay theirs out of their own pockets, so to speak.

Yes ! Why should the beach pay for anyone’s ?
Admin – To be fair, Lake Como doesn’t have a beach anymore…
A couple of things. Does Lake Como have beachfront?

What about deputizing local men to do the work. Community policing is not rocket science. If you see something wrong, react to it. Any normal man can fill the bill of police officer for a few hours a day during peak times of disorder. Possibly 2hr. shifts from 10PM-4AM. This is in addition to the town being patrolled by the state police.
What they should do if have the bars pay for them! Put it on the liquor license requiring a police officer or 2 be there, like Belmar did to D’Jais years back. The reason for the need of special officers in Lake Como is the bars, not the beach, as it is in Belmar (to some extent) and Avon. Why should the towns people pay, when Bar A and PK Shamrock are charging $10+ at the door just to walk in?!?!
Goofinoff, it’s not rocket science, but in today’s world, everyone sues! No man would want to take on that responsibility!
Lake Como has specials for the same reason as Belmar. Beach crowds, a portion of which behaves badly. Inland towns have bars but don’t hire summer specials because they don’t have people coming to their towns to party during the summer.
Dave, I beg to differ! The “kids” who rent the houses by me, do not go to the beach! They sit on their lawns all day drinking and then go to the bars!
Just saying the need for specials in Belmar and Como is the same and if Belmar has them in the neighborhoods and Main St and says that it’s because of the beach that we need them and so the beach should pay for them, then Como could say the same thing.
But Lake Como does not have a beach, hence NO BEACH UTILITY FUND to draw from. When Lake Como grows a beach or puts sand on the banks of Lake Como and charges admission, we can have this discussion. Perhaps a DRUNKFEST UTILITY FUND is what Lake Como could commission. Heavily tax rental units and hammer these out-of-town drunken teens with $1000 fines for every quality of life violation you can think of. ZERO TOLERANCE
#6, there is no cover at PK’s, lols.. This is why most of the locals go there…
THE BEACH IS OWNED BY THE STATE!!!
So the residents of Lake Como do own a beach.
Belmar only manages it. That in itself doesn’t give all beach revenues to the borough to spend as it sees fit. There are laws and rules they have to abide by.
My property taxes are higher because I live by the beach. Shouldn’t the beach utility then help me with my property tax?
#6 – but in today’s world, everyone sues!

Yep, they sue the police all the time so what’s the difference?
#10… Nowhere does it say that a town must have a beach. If Belmar subsidizes their special officers with the beach utility, with a lawsuit, Lake Como should just go after a piece of Belmar’s pie.
