“In other meeting news, the next Belmar zoning board hearing on the proposed four-story, 24-unit condominium building on 12th Avenue has been postponed until January 17.” Is the applicant anticipating new mayoral appointments of fresh faced board members who would be in favor of this project?
the 102 Second Avenue (Whitehouse) condo application is on the Dec 20th Zoning Board meeting agenda … the attorney would rather experiment with someone else’s money to set a precedent.
#1.We don’t need any stinkin condos in that area. The new administration should not approve.
First that we are hearing the Belmar Inn application is now on the 17th. They keep the application in the loop and continue to change the date and keep us guessing. How many times can this be done? Official word has come down that the Belmar Inn reopens January 1. That is no surprise. What happened to the original claim that the deal had to be settled by June or it all falls through? No need for 24 condos, make it six with some style. Do you like the look of the building on 10th ave by the railroad. That’s what the 24 would look like on a residential street.
Is this something?

The last minute payola.
Friendly new mayor will help approve 12th ave.
Ms. Corrallo, It was announced during the 10/25 meeting that 12th Ave condo was put off til that date in order to accommodate the continuance of White House hearing. You have to pay attention around here. The townhomes will be a nice fit for the north end.
When you drive over the Rt. 35 bridge from Neptune into Belmar, the condos going up at 5th and Main and 10th at the railroad are all I can see. The new administration needs to put an end to all of these enourmous condo projects that don’t fit into our small seaside landscape.
The lame duck is the one to watch.
#8 Well said. Unfortunately some people just come to the meetings to complain and fail to actually listen to the substance, maybe if they did they would learn something about the applications instead of just complaining or making noise and distracting others who actually came to the meeting to hear. Its a shame that even if you do not like an application and want to object to it you sit in the audience and yell, scream or comment to interrupt a presentation. Like the project hate the project the professionals involved expend alot of time preparing for same, its such a shame that people can sit in the audience and just scream out “greed” and snarky comments. Very classy neighbors.
#11- You seem very well informed and I can bet one of two things, either you don’t live within 100 feet of the 12th Ave. condos or you are in a position to reap a monetary gain from this project. In either case please give us three logical reasons why you feel this project is a good fit for the neighborhood as opposed to three separate single family homes. Otherwise, go away.
#12 all small local businesses struggling on main will benefit from more residents that are likely to become patrons which will help the mom and pop shops on main street and around town from going under which also keeps the small town feel; tax revenue to the borough will be a benefit to the ENTIRE borough; And I think the project is a well designed and improvement from what exists on site today. Not to mention the site today has no parking this actually provides parking. Glass half full not empty.
It’s not the town’s problem if a business is struggling on Main Street. Come up with a better business plan.
I don’t see how any of the proposed condos would advance the Borough Master Plan
We buy on Amazon and shop at the supermarkets out of town. It’s not a secret.
There are no supermarkets in town
It is not the Borough’s job to bring more business to downtown via adding more residents, Doherty’s reason for more development.
There is no parking for all the empty stores in Belmar on December 19, 2018.
#13 – Let me get this straight: Keep the small town feel by adding condos? 1. “Small town feel” comes from being small.
Maybe small towns in Vermont or Block Island would benefit from condos, but would the small town feel be preserved? If residents want a small town they’ll preserve what they have and tell developers to build elsewhere. (That’s what worked on Block Island). 2. There are a hundred thousand residents within a 5 mile radius, yet we don’t have thriving shops on main street. Why do you think adding condos will change that? Adding A LOT of condos will bring retailers and restaurateurs but it will become a city, with a small city feel. Don’t kid yourself.
Let’s put it to a referendum vote. Let the town speak !
#21, are you volunteering?
So all of these “no condo” people..you are OK with boarding houses and hotels? Both of these projects, The White House and The Belmar Inn, are planned on properties that are currently nonconforming with transient occupants. Turning them into condos will give you stable tax paying residents.
Will the new Administration require all Board Members to educate themselves by attending, let’s say Rutgers 4 weekend Courses on Planning/Zoning/ Boards of Adjustment and the like? Don’t want those members who have no clue to just sit on their hands waiting for “the lawyers” to tell them what to dooo?
24 … As you can see the fix is in with new board members.
