A payment of nearly $1 million to a company called “Partner Engineering”.
Joy DeSanctis asked about this at Tuesday’s meeting and was told that Partner took over the assets, including receivables, of the now-defunct Birdsall Engineering. She was also told that when Birdsall went bankrupt Belmar owed them $1.8 million for Sandy-related engineering work at the beachfront and that Partner acquired that receivable for $1.3 million. We settled the debt for $925,000 and paid them last month.
I guess it’s a good deal but I am somewhat perplexed that Ms. DeSanctis, the public, and apparently and particularly the four members of our Council only learned about the $925,000 settlement because of the diligence of an anonymous private citizen who happened to look through the bills list for February 17. If I had managed to negotiate a settlement that saved the borough nearly a million dollars I wouldn’t have been so quiet about it.

Wait A company bought a receivable for $1.3 million and only received $925,000.00? Seems that company won’t be around much longer.
Crazy that a huge bill like that was not on the radar of the council.
If what the mayor claims is accurate he would have run to the newspapers to announce the savings “he” was able to get for the taxpayers. That did not happen, everything per usual in Belmar was hush, hush not consistent with our publicity seeking mayor. Does not pass the smell test.
Somehow? …. this got slipped into the March 3, 2015 meeting agenda.
