Union people think once you get a Union job it’s forever. Welcome to the new world of reality. Sometimes you need to wake up and smell the coffee. Duh! Things change like technology and consolidations …just a few.
The PBA rep was definitely onto something when he said that the decision to disband the Lake Como Police Department was made long before any negotiations with the union started.
The PBA is definitely right when thry say the deal was done before negotiations. LC cops & residents got screwed. LC residents are lucky if they see a cop drive through their neighborhood every other week. The only one who made out on the deal was Matt $$$$$$$
As an older man, I’ve seen a lot of things. When Ed Koch took over as mayor of NYC after Lindsey and Beame had bankrupted the city, one of the first things he had to do was get rid of 5K policemen. That was tough but he did it. One guy who’d been fired came out on a job I was on. He didn’t last but a few days. Ironworking wasn’t for him. I guess he found something else. Many years later, a guy who’d been fired by Koch at that time made Borough Commander (I forget which borough). He said he did other work until he got called back (those fired were on top of the list to be called back).
This is the way life is. We think everything is going along fine and then without any warning, the bottom falls out. It’s the same for everybody. Nobody gets a pass, man, woman or child.
I hope for the best for these men but don’t let grass grow under your feet. Get out and go to work – any work.
As a Lake Como resident, I don’t know how Wilton can say that it improved services. You used to see the LC patrol cars all the time in Lake Como. Now you never see a patrol car patrolling Lake Como. I don’t think the Belmar police even know where Lake Como is.
5, Lake Como gets emergency response services from Belmar and not proactive policing. Wilton sold-out Lake Como’s residents and Doherty tried to pull a fast one with the revenue which the Lake Como residents are now paying for police services. With an increase in Special Police expenses, Belmar has more of an opportunity to tap the beach utility account for their payment, even if those Special Officers are now all huddled-up on Main Street and Bar A in Lake Como. Some shell game, until one gets caught. Follow the money.
Matt Mart in action. You got to pay to play in Belmar mate. Just do the math or go to the mattresses.
