After watching the Mayor answer questions from the residents about Merri-Makers hoarding the Saturday dates, I realize he is Not a true Belmarian! Let Merri-Makers buy or rent there our building to have their weddings in. He doesn’t seemed concerned about any of this! Why?
#1 – The mayor is protecting the snow job in the residents. Who in their right mind would think that some commercial venture can just monopolize our pavilion by blocking out dozens of dates? There also may be a violation of the public bidding process under all of this.
Great how the mayor states that the 10th Avenue building has been open for weeks and then looks to the business administrator for affirmation of his statement and they both give some bewildered look about the question. Then when asked about the concession the mayor states that they paid all of their rent and they are choosing not to open. I smell the next lawsuit all at the hands of this administration.
In this video, we heard the mayor comment “silly lawsuits” while he was defending his decision on Merri-makers. These lawsuits have absolutely nothing to do with Merri-makers or Taylor Pavilion. They are not in any way political. Since he has been mayor, there has been an abundance of “frivolous” lawsuits filed against the Borough. Each one he has identified as being “frivolous” or “political”. Sometimes the only recourse people have is a lawsuit. He brought this on. We will see how frivolous and silly the SALT lawsuit really is.
I loved the dance when questioned about the plans for the new Taylor vs the promises made to the residents in order to get their vote. Her persistence at the mike resulted in the mayor’s spin without honesty. The king has no clothes.
There will be a hearing in Sept on the Defendants request to dismiss the Salt Federal suit. If the request is denied, its curtains for the Mayor and his stooges!
I heard that the concession at 10th Ave wasn’t open because they couldn’t get a C.O. Is it possible that they are relatives of someone the mayor doesn’t like?
Per the mayor, the Taylor Pavilion was to be used for “events” for all of the organizations he listed during the YES/NO vote, and not for the regular use by those groups for their meetings? The mayor also stated that the space was never designed for meetings? Are we all just this dumb? I’ll have another one of what he’s drinking!
Mark Walsifer stepped up to the plate to question the whopping $83,000 in Gibbons legal fee payment and then just stood there, just to be struck out on three pitches.
#8 If I weren’t so far away, I would have read the portion of the August 2013 Mayor’s Letter at the meeting last night. It specifically states ” The reconstructed Taylor Pavilion will serve as their home”. To say now that the space was never designed for such meetings, when there are many example on video where the mayor and council talk about the new space being able to be “portioned” enabling several groups to use the new pavilion at the same time.
Looks like Walsifer is scared of the Mayor or is just plain lost. These people seem to think people don’t take notice. Trust me, they do. Vote all of them out because they bring absolutely nothing to the table.
Move on people. You were sold a bill of goods by an unsophisticated Administrationwhen you voted YES.
The tenant, I’m sure, had at the very least a marketing and 5 year plan in their toolbox before they bid. Business is business and the ADMINISTRATION is still in a cabbage patch to all who govern aND those rubes who voted for this ad ministrations and it’s incompetence.
#8 & #10 – The mayor sure did do a bad acting job last night when he was trying to explain that the Taylor Pavilion is now no good as a meeting space.
At least Walsifer asked a good question. The answer by Connolly is that “about 50% of Gibbons’ bill related to the Harmons will be covered by insurance “. Think people. Who do you think covers the other 50%??
And only 50% of SOME of the bills. Not all the bills.
As I recall, Mr. Walsifer asked if there was a cap on the fees and that was not answered directly, just deflected. (The fees are not so bad because we get about half refunded?)
Insurance premiums will go up and cost Belmar taxpayers plenty. If you add all their together it doesn’t equal one brain.
14, 15, 16 – The entire cost of legal fees in Belmar are a disgrace and all at the fault of the Business Administrator, Mayor, and every single Councilperson who votes yes on the payment of these bills.
In spite of all the mismanagement by Belmar politicians, the residential development is truly amazing…. Over the past 10 years numerous old homes were replaced by new homes.. Furthermore, many homes have been totally remodeled…. Just something to be thankful about….
#10 Tell me what the Mayor and council did to move that along. Also much of the renovations are compliments of the American taxpayer. (Sandy Money)
Dear friends in Belmar:
Please start using the official record to call out the mayor on his broken promises regarding the use of the Taylor Pavilion.
Go to this blog, past meetings. Good o to August 7 Part 2. Go to 26:45 seconds till 28;54 seconds. Print out Page 2 of the official minutes of 8/7/13 Mayor & Council Meeting lines 15 to 19. ” 92.6 % of Taylor’s use prior to Sandy was for Belmar residents and Belmar groups” We will expand the use “it will be designed to have three different Belmar groups to use the 1st floor at the same time- increasing even more the use by Belmar residents.”
I was present for the testimony by Belmar BA Colleen Connolly in Judge Gummer’s court regarding the Mayor’s statements and promises regarding “Buy A Board”. Belmar lost the lawsuit because of Matt’s initial statements ( and those written by Connolly).
Same here. We have Connolly and Matt August 2013 on Taylor and why it matters and who will benefit vs what they say and do now. May I remind you all that related to the same lawsuit, beach goers must derive some, a percentage of the benefit of the new Taylor.
Doherty should be hooked up to a lie detector at town meetings so we can know when he’s telling the truth. Or if he’s even capable of it!
Regarding the street light “problem” (let’s just call it an issue) on Main Street, Mr. Campbell said that the JCP&L poles are too close to Belmar’s lights, when in fact, it is the other way around, the Belmar lights are too close to JCP&L poles. Same difference except the language could imply a mistake of some sort and raises a question about who fixes what. Someone is working on it… I may be wrong or missed something, but a “problem” was not acknowledged once the question was raised by a resident. Let’s have some street light on some parts of Main Street soon, what with the wandering tipsy ones and such. No lawsuits, please.

Never was drinking allowed by anyone at Taylor’s or the boardwalk or the beach or street etc, what has happened?
#26 – What has happened is that the Mayor has turned the town into Drunkville. For some reason this guy is obsessed with the expansion of alcohol consumption in Belmar.
How is the Fifth ave concession allowed to have “wait staff” on the beach (without beach passes) walking up to beach goers handing out menus and taking orders?
Take a walk past the 10th Ave “Emergency Station”. One plastic chair facing the Ocean. I would not call this building OPEN.
Is anyone in the lookout tower?
Overall, Tuesday night was the Mayors worst acting performance to date.
I heard that there was actually one person in town who was dumb enough to believe all that.
32 Admin Only one? What happened to Matt’s dumb and dumber supporters?
They already believe everything is great with Taylor
There is nothing in the first aid and the police station. The lifeguards are sitting inside on folding chairs. And no one is in the lookout tower.
Is the building air conditioned? Does it have hot and cold running water, bathrooms, exam areas or sick bays?
the allowable occupancy of the 10th Ave tower is only 3 (M&F)
This would be a great resource, if anyone can type minuets from the video tape.Maybe a retired senior who can type fast can do it?
This is how the locals in Lavallette keep track of their town meeting.

In my opinion Belmar is against many things that make Belmar a great beach town. I recently went to Jersey Shore BBQ and was told no beer or wine at outside table, another stupid ordinance the town has passed that BYOB restaurants can’t let people have alcohol at the outside tables. The folks that dine at these establishments are typically families, no one is causing a ruckus.its summer and people love to dine outside, what gives?Believe me the minusou they discuss at these meetings when there are real issues are ridiculous. I am one of the 9 homeowners who went to 8 council meetings to defend my turf, really the Mayor and Councilman should spend time on bigger issues. I walk by everyday houses with dirt lawns, overgrown or just weeds or rocks but that’s okay with them! Now getting on tents, most are set up not blocking Ocean view and it’s usually a family enjoying the day. The tents are safer than umbrellas on a windy day. C’mon Belmar stop driving out residents, tourists and businesses with your stupid ordinances!
The Mayor and council do handle bigger things behind closed doors, out of your knowledge. The BS discussed at the council meeting is pre-scripted nonsense to quell the natives (residents).
