A shout out to newly elected Councilman Walsifer. The 1/17/17 Bill Paid list is unacceptable. The lack of detail not only lacks transparency, but difficult to OPRA. I have made it a habit the past 5 years to OPRA purchase orders and review the description of which account ( name not number) is being charged. You know, like Tourism paying for police equipment as reported on you blog.

I am glad that a council member brought up the dumpster and POD fees. What other tidbits are hidden in generalities and voted on en masse without individual item exposure to the public? Do we know what they are voting on most of the time on the so-called consent agenda? Does self-interest play into the votes? I ask questions rhetorically, of course.

Resolutions should be explained in workshop by the governing body before voting on them so the public knows what is going on. Some resolutions are so vague. Also, if they pass an ordinance that designates that fees (for everything) charged by the Borough be designated by Resolution, residents will have no say on them. Ordinances give more power to the people, Resolutions give more power to the governing body.

What weight is given to passage of fiats by Resolutions vs Ordinances in a State of Federal Court of Law?

Do we have any recourse regarding unfair Resolutions being passed other than to stop the precedents by fiat by voting them out?

“Consent Agenda” use is routinely abused. Many resolutions should not be bundled in a bum’s rush.

Agree #5, at a minimum resolutions should be explained in workshop prior to action so the public could ask a question on the consent agenda. Just because they are routine, does not mean they shouldn’t be explained. “Consent Agenda” only means there is no dissent among the body and they can be acted on by one motion.
