Developing……..

Sources tell me that CAFRA has told Belmar that it may NOT sink any pilings for the new Taylor Pavilion until it has been confirmed that the building will sit on the EXACT SAME FOOTPRINT as the original Taylor.  The site for the new building is reportedly 28 feet east of where it’s supposed to be, and if this is true, it would be intruding on valuable coastal property and in violation of CAFRA rules.

The pilings that were driven Wednesday with great fanfare and ceremony and the ones driven yesterday are only for the access ramp.

Will keep you posted……

Just so we are clear the entire pavilion has been moved 23 feet easterly toward the ocean without ANY environmental impact study.

We have lost precious dry sand beach a natural resource that is rapidly disappearing in New Jersey. We lost the opportunity to speak our opinions for review regarding a CAFRA permit.

Sadly this town is being run by those politicians with authority to play games, give and take favors, and prioritize self serving interests.

Thanks for nothing Matt Doherty if this is how you govern Belmar you do not care or consider residents only your personal agenda. We just needed a modest replacement pavilion not this overpriced taj mahal. Unions workers confirmed they are started at 7am and will work until 3pm. Welcome to Belmar

You will hear the pavilion was moved 23 feet easterly to comply with ADA ramps necessary to meet flood elevations. This is not quite accurate but you will hear it.

The ADA compliant access could have been achieved with a redesign or alternate location. The law requires an attempt to solve the issue without taking dry sand beach. There was never an alternative plan considered.

Keep in mind that the reason we need extra ramping is because we rushed to build the boardwalk so it is 5 feet below flood elevation.

Also the height of the building is over 29 feet from the boardwalk.
Specifically constructed to easily add a second floor.

This is your town Belmar residents should contact the DEP hotline 1-877-WARNDEP and make a formal complaint. I am not a lawyer but I read the law, the pavilion requires a new CAfRA permit.

This is a another political decision that hurts Belmar.

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and believing it will have different results.
There is, however the intent by some to change the subject and to do so quite deliberately. Again the proof is on the pages here. Regarding your unusually snide comment about “their Cause, if they have one”, When after so many years, a sizable minority or at times a majority ( Aug. 19, 2014 )of residents feel that there is no equity, there is most often push back, hostility and civility goes out the window.
For years now, in a classic system of nepotism and cronyism, the political party in power has picked winners and losers. Good people unfairly have gotten hurt. I have lived here only 10 years and my list runneth over.

In Belmar, they have reached a tipping point. No flowery speeches, campaign rhetoric, promises… will solve the problem. The only way the majority of residents can “move forward” is to assure the reestablishment of frank dialog and the insistence on EQUITY.

#39-Betty-This post is especially for you…..as a mother and grandmother, I certainly understand your concerns . To answer questions about when the outflow pipe will be installed, a letter is going out from the borough administrator to residents who are impacted with flooding issues at the south end of town. Here is the information I received: many agencies are involved with the installation of the pipe, and they aren’t always quick to respond to finalizing details. We wanted the pipe installed yesterday-they don’t realize our urgency. Environmental concerns have to be addressed, and permits must be put in place. As a former councilwoman, these types of situations, much to my chagrin when I was on the council, take an inordinate amount of time. Apparently state and federal agencies are on overload with sorting through issues impacting various communities. Frustration was what I experienced when things didn’t move along as quickly as I had wanted. Betty, I hope my comments allay some of your concerns. Look for the letter from the borough office; perhaps more of your questions/concerns will be addressed. If I learn more on the topic, I’ll address you personally on this blog.

I gave council people ear-fulls when they tied the Outfall pipe to the pavilion bond, and I personally questioned council people about the pavilions and Community Disaster Loan. They were unaware about the CDL and they never got back to me about its status. Ridic!

#64 & 65-I’m only helping out here……I was asked by Betty and others on the blog to find out about the outfall pipe-which is what I did…..I followed through on the request-…..#64.. “sounds like an answer from a former councilmember?”….what’s the implication here ? That I’m not being truthful?….Now I’m being castigated..When have you both-#64 & 65-had to wade through bureaucratic minutiae?…much back and forth with agencies…I know….I’ve lived it as a councilmember….and personally..it took my husband and I 2 and1/2 years to get answers from the state regarding affairs pertaining to my mother-in-law…many letters, phone calls, e-mails to finally get the answers we needed…#65.”read between the lines?” You ARE cynical… What do you know about such matters? What do any of the non-believers know about this type of situation? Amazing negativity. Betty-I hope what is stated in the letter being sent to south-end residents will answer your concerns….For others who commented:..Oh ye of little faith….what horrible accusations, #64 and #65….reaping the benefits of anonymity ….spewing ugly remarks because you can…I can understand why you’re fearful about using your given names…you should be with the accusations you both posted…

An opinion is not an accusation. This is a place for opinions. I have mine and others have theirs. The truth is certainly not apparent. The people cannot be duped all the time. That is an opinion which smacks of truth. I was a bureaucrat and know how things work in the real world. I enjoy my cynicism, leaves me a clear head without delusion.

How can anyone in this day and age say there is red tape gumming up the works in government? Probably only those who’ve never been in business in the real world. Pity Donald is busy right now otherwise we could get him to fix Lake Como and the watershed problems Pronto.

#55 In defense of a statement you made in reference to Jim Bean’s rule. If you went to meetings or knew what was going on in town you would know Jim had no rule. He sat there for 3 yrs was never given an acknowledgement of any kind. He had no reports to give because he was not included in the towns business. I could go on and on but won’t because you do not know what you are writing about. When you have some facts write if not watch what you are saying because you do not know what you are talking about. No truth in your rant.

I went to almost every meeting post Sandy. Not a rant.” Bean’s Rule” and you can watch the videos of meetings was used when most often expenditures were made prior to a council vote and Jim Bean would consequently not vote. The fact that Jim was not given other “town business” is another subject. I was only referring to and acknowledging Jim for not playing charades at the expense of the residents.

Thank you, Claire for looking into this and prompting the letter. The families of the South End have been ignored by Mayor and Council because we pushed for our lake to be fixed as a priority over the pavilions. Since we “disappointed” them, my fear is that the money will be spent and it will never be remediated. I’m grateful that you, as a fellow lifelong resident, understand what this town used to be about.

Wake up Belmar has no money , why do you think this money grab with Lake Como PD is happening ? The town will be paying the lions share of the pavilions when it is all said and done. Even if Matt’s pipe dream of an appeal goes through at best he will get a larger % say it goes from 4% to 15% is that really going to make a difference ? The time to pay the piper is coming it not going away. The town is going to over runs already due to the fact that they cant read a survey or know what a footprint is.

Someone made the comment more money is needed by the Libertarians and Republicans in a campaign. That would unfortunately not work due to the fact that around 1000 residents are Left leaning, Progressive, Loyal Democrats and don’t care about ethics as they are non judgmental except about others that do not see things their way. They don’t mind paying more in taxes. I would not be surprised if Matt has a shrine in his house honoring Bill De Blasio. They make all their decisions on ideology not common sense, and probably don’t understand why they keep loosing lawsuits.

#85. Talk about not reading, not comprehending. My post and follow up were a tribute to former councilman Bean. I for one want to be on the record going forward ( especially since Tom Burke trashed him recently on this very topic) that as someone who voted for Jim Bean, he did the right thing. If you watch the video of the meeting I highlighted and others, he would not vote just to vote. If he had no time to study it he abstained. Hence Bean’s Rule. If he disagreed with an expenditure , but the borough paid it before a vote, he abstained. Hence Bean’s Rule. If he had to OPRA it, he did, he he then had to investigate it, he did. If he had to vote against it, he did. I HOPE I AM CLEAR ON THIS. already
