I spoke with William Birch, Executive Regional Manager, Division of Project Management for DOT and I asked him why there were diagrams for a fixed span when the info packet made no mention of a proposal for a fixed span bridge. He told me they have to consider every possibility but that the DOT had already determined that the fixed span proposal was “unfeasible” due to the cost.

Just a guess but I’m assuming this will be just another average bridge?
The Manasquan Inlet is the preferred design…. They do not have bridges that connect Manasquan to Point… Eliminate both Main and Ocean bridges, problem solved….
I think its a good idea to take the bridge out and not replace it. Save the tax payers money.
Just watched the video, and I always try to give individuals new to a job, a fair opportunity. But what our new mayor said to the DOT presenters “you don’t know how to run a public meeting” was so condescending, it was disgraceful.
At the end of the video, the new owner of Main One Marina was complaining about the bridge being closed during construction… He has bigger problems than that, the mechanics there are not up to par, also there is no water there at low tide, the boats sit on sand…. The boating community all know about these issues and I would never put my boat there under any circumstances.
McGovern is so condescending! He tells DOT reps they don’t know how to run a meeting – says they need to hear and answer questions in a better fashion, and then says on channel 12 he’s fine with whatever bridge the DOT will build. What a tool.
For those of you who want to express your opinions or concerns about the new bridge you can contact Denise Peck at the DOT her email address Denise.Peck@Dot.NJ.Gov
Magovern is not only dumb, but he is extremely rude.
