Here is how we stack up in our own neighborhood.
Of course I have to be a little skeptical of their methodology when I see Sea Girt and Deal anywhere near this list, but obviously in Belmar’s case and in Lake Como’s case the numbers are heavily driven by fights among drunken people. I don’t feel unsafe in Belmar…my previous post notwithstanding…because I don’t hang around with drunken people. But arresting and prosecuting these people places a very large burden on our police, our first-aid and our courts. Add to that the expense of the occasional police brutality lawsuits and it’s definitely not good. It will become more not good with the acquisition of Lake Como’s problems, effective May 11, 2016.

The thing about gun crime is this. If you have a big enough population of young men who have zero prospects, you’re going to get these shootings. Young men are just at that age when they have it in them to pull a stickup. From there, anything can happen. The most important thing with young men is keeping them busy learning useful work and thinking about pretty girls (not necessarily in that order). If a society can do that, it’ll be okay. If not, there’s trouble.
No The breakup of the “family” is the biggest reason. Plenty of kids today have zero respect for law and order. It starts in the schools from an undisciplined house hold.
You can do anything with numbers. These rankings are calculated on only 4 crimes and the population of the town. Take a few more aggravated assaults at the bars and another drunk driving manslaughter and Belmar or Lake Como would be 2nd behind Asbury Park. It also depends on how the crime is recorded. Any police department can make their numbers go up or down or seem more serious or not to a certain extent. You could have 0 for the 4 crimes mentioned and 10,000 disorderly calls and you would be at the bottom of the rankings. It’s a joke how and what the UCR counts. Let’s see what Matt makes Acting Chief do with the numbers this Summer??? Down in Belmar and up in Lake Como, then Matt can hire more and buy more equipment and charge Lake Como more??? Oh this should be interesting…
no such thing as “criminals” anymore …. they are only “justice-involved individuals”
