Who is paying for all the Specials by DJ’s? And how many are working in one night?
They are paid out of the beach utility.
Next step: a garage to be built somewhere nearby. Wait and see, create a disaster, then offer a solution. Go Mattie, you’re so smart! But wait! A woman spoke at a recent Mayor and Council meeting, claiming that she has contacts who would build a garage. Have not heard about any follow up on that idea.
You’re kidding. Does the State on NJ approve of the Djais security budget spending? Is that out of our portion of the beach revenue. Let Djais hire their own strong men and write it off their taxes. If we have to pay for their security we should reduce our taxes accordingly.
So boycott the beach, at least on the south end of Belmar, if not the whole length of it, and educate visitors to the beach that their beach badge fees go into a fund that pays for special police to control noisy drunks from D’Jais. What family would support that? Matt wants to attract families to town, right?
Does the Marina Grille pay the town rent for the parking lots?
Ambulance Mamalukes, cops galore at Djais. Nuts. Mobs up and down side streets, falling, running, screaming and it’s only 7:55pm
3 police cars lights blazing to Djais 8:02p
Huge fight at djais right now. I think every cop in town there. This would be a good opra request for report on this Maylay. Men and women being arrested and screaming and people falling all over the place.
8:04p 4th police car up toward Djais
8:24p another police car heading easterly on 18th and Ocean.
Just heard police are running out of handcuffs
9:20pm bedlam at 314 16th Avenue, dregs, screaming, cops, just out of control. ” Rentalgate ” madness. Stop promoting insanity.
Lots of public urination, alcohol in public, drunk and disorderly, and a fight on 16th. May the mayhem begin!
One neighbor called 5 separate occasions due to the out of control summer mob at the same 314 16th house.
How can belmar have safe neighborhoods with the growing bar licenses??? People come with a wat of money and have nothing to do but drink in over crowded area. Maybe it is time to shut the town down
The mayor asked for it. Shut down D’Jais, a threat to public safety. Brennan, how about an accompanied tune? Da blues, baby, da blues, for real! Non-disposable bag dat!
And then the argumentative drunk was turned away from 314 16th by a police responder with instructions to shut him mouth, go to Dunkin Donuts or get locked up
This is what Belmar turned into. A place for drunks, whores, and misfits. Where is Christie? He and his pal Matt should be outside the bar watching what they advocated. Who the hell would buy any of those houses near DJAYS? There property is worthless.
Sad how the south end of town has return to the sewer it was back 15-20 years ago. Thanks Mayor Doherty, your drunk friendly agenda is working perfectly. It has all been going downhill since you took office.
when was a new law passed for Belmar that you can now drink in public? 90% of these animals were walking with open beers and red solo cups … no cops around to see this? But us the taxpayers have to clean ean up our properties from it …
There is too much pressure on our police force to keep order. It seems they have their hands full. I remember back in the early 80’s how out of control the town was. Ken Pringle worked hard to bring civility and a better quality of life back to Belmar. The Doherty administration has turned Belmar back to the free-for-all, honky tonk days of yesteryear. Why does this administration allow more than a dozen special police officers, being paid from the beach utility, to work over 12 hours a day on a weekend to patrol one block of Ocean Avenue near DJ’s. And it is still not enough. Why does the Borough Council refuse to put restrictions on the DJ’s liquor license. It is clearly a quality of life issue for those year round taxpayers that live within 5 blocks of DJ’s. With all the police resources spent trying to keep order at DJ’s God forbid there is another crisis in town.
#22 – The answer to it all is that nobody is listening. These antics need to get into the Coast Star and Asbury Park Press describing the true life in Belmar during the summer. Then and maybe only then will the borough council feel the need to address adequate proactive police patrols in the southern neighborhoods. For the record, these patrols basically ceased around 4 years ago. Coincidence?
Having more police is not the solution. Closing down the offending establishment(s) is the answer. How to initiate that? Petition and a town wide vote?
Hope it doesn’t happen …….but if a real tragedy happens then the politicians will wake up. God please save this town.
Your best bet is to call the police, identify the activity, videotape and then post it on Cathay Goetz TAP into and/or the blog.
12 o’clock closing petition, let the people vote !!!
Then after the midnight closing, the rowdies will roam about town. I say, close ’em down.
12 o’clock close isn’t the answer. In fact that 5 year stretch taught the unashamedly unwashed that it was cheaper to drink at their bivouac areas vs local bars with cover charges and expensive beers and booze. Ushered in chaos for cheap.
Shut down DJAIS. It is a fire hazard and has far too many people leaving there drunk and disturbing the nearby neighborhoods.
Belmar should be a bucolic family town, but DJAIS turns it into a frat house.
The sidewalks of Belmar should be open and available to walkers. Too often they are blocked by patrons of DJAIS and PLAYA BOWLS. Walking in the street I’d dangerous, but often required cause these places do not keep the lines of patrons off the sidewalks.
Close DJAIS, speak up and get this mess outta town
#22 – Sir, do you think the mayor and certain members of our council should be put to sleep?
My opinion and suggestion: Residents should show up at the next Mayor and Council meeting in early June, and, one by one, step up to the microphone during the public session and speak their minds, not more police to control noise and unruly bar patrons, that is not the solution, but wanting to shut down the offending establishments. Each person gets five minutes to speak. Use your five minutes. Enough is enough. If they don’t want to comply, tell them their terms are coming up and they will be voted out. Don’t let the mayor wiggle out of wanting to close the meeting early, give ’em hell. The mayor and council members do not own the town. Someone from the administration reads this blog. If they are afraid, expect to see more police at the meeting. That is what they do to intimidate people. Josh Vallario, here is your opportunity.
The press usually has a reporter there to write articles.
#31 My opinion NO However they should be all fired.
Jennifer should be questioned about Djais nightclub in reidential neighborhood and Beat the Clock promotions during the week in Belmar.
Is the accompanying noise at those establishments and other vile acts eminating from the overserved being overlooked?
#34 – She’ll think it’s all so “Neat”.
#35 How about her organizing a pinkie challenge to encircle D’Jais? That would be cute and could go onto her resume.
Can the police, first aiders and lifeguards use the “5th Avenue PARTY PAVILION” while the sorely needed
10th Avenue SAFETY pavilion is completely functional for the BEACH GOING Public, as in PUBLIC TRUST?
Zero to no comments from Council members speaks volumes.
These ‘kids’ are too drunk. No respect for anyone’s property, can’t find their rental place and banging on my door in the middle of the night demanding to be let in. There needs to be patrols up and down 16th and 18th all night long handing out $300 tickets for noise violations. Once these drunkards get a few of these tickets rung up, they may rethink their vacation spots. Let ME hand out the tickets if the cops won’t – I could’ve made Belmar and Lake Como $1,000,000 this weekend from the fines
We also should stop all the advertising to bring people here. There’s no magic advertising formula that can only be seen by “middle class families”.
Goes to show you that Belmar’s ADVERTISING media marketing is also FAKE. The unwashed hordes are being mislead and lied to about the lure of Fort Lauderdale North entertainment capital at the Jersey Shore. They have no idea familes, parents, grandparents and retirees live and work in Belmar. Those year round residents who work need to sleep in order to get to their jobs in order to pay their TAXES.
if anyone cares, Doherty was hanging in D’jais on Friday during happy hour
#42 Nobody cares
Anyone who enters into private personal email communications with drunky doughty is stupid. All of your personal, email me, send me a letter messages addressed to matt the drunk goes into the circular file!
$12 to Valet at the Marina Grill this weekend!
And the valet moves the cars to… Belmar public properties? Laugh your assessment$ off.
That doesn’t seem smart on marina grill’s part from an insurance perspective. Patrons probably think their car is being parked in a private lot but in fact it got damaged in a public lot….
