Governor Pinocchio

In response to a question from Tom Burke:

“I didn’t want to come to Belmar in the midsts of all this and sit here and say I have no opinion on it.  Um, it’s not right for me to do.  I’m the leader of the state, so I took the time to review it and knowing I was coming here and knowing that the vote was coming up on the 19th and I’m giving you my opinion.  I understand that there are other people who may differ, I respect people who have a different opinion, and let’s see how the vote turns out.  If the vote turns out no, then the town’s going to have to come up with another plan, if the vote turns out yes then they’re going to go with the plan they have.  I favor  that plan uh, because I think it’s responsible but I understand people who might disagree.”

I found this a little hard to believe so I OPRAed the governor’s research notes and was sent this:

Based upon your review of spending $738.00 per square foot for construction, you are in favor. Stop reviewing. I cannot afford to pay for your advice. Review and speak on an issue that you will pay from your pocket. And PS, when you review try reviewing both sides. Clearly the pavilions can be built for less. Belmar taxpayers cannot afford any additional debt. Review the neighboring towns that have completed recovery and are millions of dollars less in debt than Belmar. Vote Yes for higher taxes, Vote NO and save 3 million and build the pavilions.
