Linda Sharkus had a letter published in the Star last week. Thought I’d share it with you:
WHO WOULD BE ON YOUR LIFEBOAT?
I started sailing as an adult and then racing my own J24. I trailered the boat from New Jersey to Connecticut and down the Garden State Parkway, even to South Carolina and as far as Florida. I realized as a new sailor, playing with the “big boys (and girls)” required a good team. What this means to me is that I needed to recruit a team whose skills complemented my limited sailing skills; where the crew could identify problems, formulate solutions and deliver results, and help us win; respect and harmony are essential for the success of the team.
I would often reference ‘if I needed to get into a lifeboat who would I want to be there with me?’ You don’t have to be best friends with your team; I implore the people of Belmar who aren’t happy with the current administration to consider what is necessary to lead our community; what experience would be appropriate for those people. Your choices may be different from your neighbors.
For me, I would put Ed Kirschenbaum, Sr., Borough Administrator, and Mike Campbell, Supervisor DPW, in my life boat. Why? They get the job done! This is my opinion. I’m happy they are playing on our team in conjunction with the Mayor and Council.
Thanks Linda. In this crazy, scary and uncertain time, we have learned there is no perfect solution. But there are solutions. Some may work well some may not work at all. I give a lot of credit to those trying to find a way to balance the public safety and public freedoms. It is a tightrope that no one claim to know the complete perfect answer to.
What I see is an administration, borough employees and volunteer public working together to maneuver ( using Linda’s metaphor) very rough seas. Those in charge are working tirelessly for the public good.
Damm Right Mayor Walsifer has added real pros to his Team – leadership starts at the top – if we had his leadership 10 years ago – Belmar would not be in the Financial mess it’s in today – we all should be grateful for his and the Council’s hard work
Saw Mr. Kirschenbsum salute the Mayor while out for a walk on the boardwalk. Does one salute a Mayor in an official capacity? Never saw that before. A little to jazzed up with power that comes with Emergency Executive Orders. Likes his time in the spotlight
This administration and all employees are working very hard in these difficult times Trying to keep on top of things and doing a good job Anyone want to trade places?
Great efforts on the part of Belmar’s Mayor and Council. Very positive responses to an unbelievably difficult Pandemic situation. Kudos to our Belmar leadership! Once the weather improves, and summer is really upon us, I have no doubt doubt that M&C will continue to strategize as crowds of vacationers come to Belmar. Their efforts on behalf of residents will be ongoing.Thank You Mayor Walsifer and Council members!
Can someone please explain WHY the recycle center is closed ? Do these great leaders think that stopping cardboard recycling saves lives ?
#7 That is a way above average intelligent question. The person there has very little contact with anybody. Open it!!!!
I would love to see this poll after the budget comes out. Another 10% increase on the horizon.
With his high and almighty opinion of himself, I wouldn’t put Ed Kirschenbaum on my dog doo clean up crew. He treats people like the very items i wouldn’t hire him to pick up
#s 4, 7, 8, 9 & 10 – What you’ve got here is a bunch of inexperienced guys who never did any real work in their lives and this hoax comes along and they louse up by the numbers.

# 5 – “This administration and all employees are working very hard”
Correct, but they’re working so hard because they don’t know how to work. That’s what happens when a bunch of people are elected who made it their life’s work, never to do any work.
I agree with #10. BA Kirschendumb is an egomaniac. Hes full of himself. What qualifications does he have to be a business administrator other than having a big mouth. If hes on your raft it will surely sink.
