I emailed my congressman, a freshman Democrat, to remind him that Trump won this district in 2016 and to point out to him how unlikely it would be that anyone here votes for Trump next year and at the same time votes for a congressman who voted to impeach him.
Here is his reply:
As Tom Dilberger (and some other guy Joe) likes to say, this is a bunch of malarkey.

Regardless of how NH votes, plan on Trump being your President for 4 more years.
Next year I’m going to work to get this turkey out of Congress.
#1- Correct. I think this band of Dems. in the House pretty much assured that. It’s Baloooooonie.
Ohhhh palease!!! Typical politely doublespeak.
That was way above average BS
They even drink the kool aid in New Hampshire. He must know Matt.
You don’t see any resemblance of Matt in the way Trump does business?
#7 yes very much , and this Chris Pappas reminds me of this Jim Bean guy the people on this blog always talk about, that he will do the right thing and not vote a certain way just to keep his job.
Um, am I missing something? Someone point out the sentence in that letter that is in anyway untrue. Dave, you said yourself that this guy is a democrat that was just recently elected in a district that Trump won in 2016. That should tell you all you need to know- New Hampshire voters are starting to learn what we in the NYC area have known since around 1989: that Donald Trump is a liar and a con man.
You guys can quibble all you want about politics and deep state and conspiracy. The fact is that Trump withheld Congressional approved military aid from Ukraine in order to have them announce (not conduct, just announce) an investigation into the son of a political rival. If any of you spent even five minutes listening to testimony and reading transcripts, you would know that is exactly what happened. Now, the only question is whether or not you think that is an impeachable offence. You may think, like a lot of republicans in congress, that it is wrong and of questionable intent, but not impeachable. In my view- If orchestrating a break in at the headquarters of your political opponents and then lying about it is impeachable- and if sleeping with an intern and then lying about it is impeachable- then so is this. Instead of trying to remove this ‘turkey’, he should commended for following the rule of law. Something this president has no interest in doing.
And number 7 is right, how you guys can hate Matt for the things he does yet like Trump is a complete mystery. Corrupt, dishonest, egotistical, vindictive, self-serving, dim witted, and immoral. Those words describe both Matty and Donnie. The only difference between the two is that Trump does it on a larger stage. If Obama or Clinton or Warren or Sanders or ANYONE with a ‘d’ next to their name did the exact same thing with the exact same evidence, you’d all be screaming for impeachment. And, frankly, so would I.
Please stop putting party over country.
This congressman wrote back and thoughtfully laid out his feelings about this very serious manner in a way that is both detailed and professional without a hint of condescension . I’d be proud to have this young man represent me.
I’ll trade you mine for yours.
Haha. In a heartbeat. If fact, I’ll throw in Menenedez (and he’s a senator!) if you take Chris Smith.
Seriously though, compared to some of the clowns in the capital, Pappas seems like a thoughtful and moral person. Trump broke the law (numerous times) no party affiliation should be more important than that fact.
#9- You left out a sentence. “Joe Biden is a Saint”.
I’m so sick of this impeachment bull! Every President would be guilty of the similar things. Both parties are guilty. I am an Independent and will not be voting for anyone who votes for impeaching President Trump. He was elected by the people and if the people don’t like him, he will be voted out in November. That’s how it is done in this country. This whole process has been a circus and an embarrassment to our country.
#9, buy a cuddle blanket and some Kleenex now, because Trump will win by a landslide!Hold on to the ribbon you got for “participating” in grammar school sports to keep you calm.
#12 Joe Biden is not a saint. Like I said, if he did the things the president has done I would support impeachment. What his son did is gross and should be scrutinized. I’m not sure how the unethical things done by one guy excuse the unethical things done by another guy.
#13 you’re anger is well deserved. It is a circus and an embarrassment. I agree 100%
#14 I’m not sure what a ‘cuddle blanket’ is but I recognize the tact you’re taking. Do not comment at all on the facts, just insult the person that is delivering the difficult truth (another Doherty move). You keep that blanket for yourself. There is a reason MrTrump is the least popular president in the history of our great nation. If you have a defense of him, if you can refute any of the things I wrote, I’m all ears.
#13 – That’s how it’s done in this country? No, actually, impeachment is part of our law. In the 90’s when our president cheated on his wife, did you say we shouldn’t impeach and just wait till the next election?
Of course Trump supporters will be emboldened, and this impeachment will hurt Dems politically. The reason to do it isn’t political. It’s for posterity… for the sake of following the rule of law, for maintaining our status as the “shining city on the hill”. I’m ok with losing the battle if it could help win the war. That winner isn’t Bernie necessarily. It could be Bloomberg.
I know you can’t stand those silly “socialists” talk about climate change, breaking up big corporations, or preserving the emoluments clause. So, it will take time. This war won’t turn towards the Dems till a tidal wave hits your house, Jeff Bezos is the only person you can buy anything from and Trump National Park is the location for the gaudy hotel built for esteemed visiting leaders such as Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un. When that all happens, we can elect someone who will be afraid to be a crook, because our history (this impeachment) shows we don’t allow it.
Aileen … I didn’t agree with impeaching Clinton either. As sleazy as it was, I do not believe it was an impeachable offense. Curious.. What do you think about Biden’s statement on tape demanding the prosecutor in Ukraine get fired within so many hours or they don’t get the money. He was Vice President. Should he be impeached?
#17 I’ll field that one. The short answer is, absolutely. However, he is no longer Vice President. But, since you brought it up… Biden asked Ukraine to fire prosecutor Viktor Shokin. Biden was acting in an official White House capacity. All NATO allies as well as the WMF and the WTO and, you guessed it, congress, wanted Shokin fired. Why? He was actually corrupt. It wasn’t Biden’s personal attorney trying to get dirt on Mitt Romney, it was an official and well documented and established US policy position. Shokin was corrupt and he wasn’t doing enough to combat corruption in Ukraine. That’s why world leaders and global financial institutions wanted him fired. This is all very well documented. Please feel free to research. IF then VP Biden asked that Shokin be fired because he wanted Ukraine to ‘do him a favor’ and stop investigating the company for which his son sat on the board? Then yes, he most definitely should have been impeached. So, let’s hold Trump to the same standard that you and I would hold Biden to. The articles of impeachment were put forth by our founding fathers for this exact scenario. A president that uses his power to put his own needs above those of the people.
https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2019/nov/5/burisma-holdings-pressed-state-department-official/
This is why they paid so much to have a Biden on the payroll.
#1- Alexander Hamilton was spot on.
#2- Neither Clinton nor Trump should have been impeached.
#3- Dems. sealed the deal on another 4 years of Trump.
I have the same lack of respect for Biden that you all do. I agree with #18. Biden was wrong just as the Trump family polito-business industrial complex is wrong… and has been wrong for the past 3 years. Now, the phone conversation with the Ukrainian president is the smoking gun……but like Dave used to draw the lines between the Doherty’s and their cronys, there are hundreds of lines between the Trumps and others – all impeachable under the emoluments clause. Dave, you should be irate about it. Could the ban on beach smoking be the only reason you became irate about Matt’s corrupt behavior?
Turning half the world, including some of the meanest, most powerful people, against him has cost Trump maybe billions and he knew it would going into it. Do you really think he’s going through all this just to fill hotel rooms? And if he committed all these crimes, why is it that the only thing they have to impeach him on is asking for Biden to be investigated when Biden needs to be investigated, especially if he wants to be president.
BTW, I started the blog when Kenny was mayor and when Kenny first started to mess with smokers. Also, I never myself published any detrimental info about Matt without documentation. I never published rumors (which I heard plenty) or 2nd hand info.
I think I treated Matt much more fairly than the national media treats Trump.
And you treated mcdirty with respect.
Pelosi didn’t want to impeach him for other offenses because they’re a little too elusive and because she knew it isn’t the right thing to do politically. But the phone call was clear cut. We can’t just blow off our obligation to democracy because it could hurt politically.
I’m grateful for the way you treated Matt. This town needed you and we are forever grateful. I just wish I could meet someone who takes the same stand regardless of who the leader is.
Trump didn’t become president to fill hotel rooms, he did it to add another notch in his belt….and he refused to give up his conflict of interest business dealings. Dave, it makes no sense that you aren’t outraged by that.
I’ve been meaning to listen to the podcast Trump, Inc. (but it’s too depressing). Let’s both tune in and you can tell me if the reporting is a bunch of hooey.
Trump is doing a great job on policy, the economy, the military, etc. Yes he is unorthodox and may have a big mouth but the Dems are a disgrace and dirty and will do anything to take more power away from the people so they can control your paycheck. Anyone who votes for them is a cuck.
Admin- That article you posted from the Washington Times is worth reading. Although the article is short on specifics, it does lay out that Burisma (the gas company at the center of all this) hired a lobbyist to pressure the US State dept to help to get Ukraine to drop its investigation of them. In that effort, they name dropped Hunter Biden. While that is cringe worthy, it really doesn’t come as a surprise that they would name drop a guy that they clearly hired for his name. I don’t think anyone would say that Hunter Biden taking that job was on the up and up. I won’t get into the well documented instances of the Trump children using their name to do business with foreign companies.
Here is the breakdown:
The EU and the US and world financial institutions ALL wanted Viktor Shokin fired. They ALL wanted him fired because he was NOT investigating corruption Ukraine. The only reason that Burisma eventually was investigated and fined and dismantled was because of the new prosecutor general that replaced Shokin. This is all very well documented and easily accessible to all.
The US started calling for Shokin’s dismissal in 2015. Along with the entire EU and the US congress and most of the western world saw Shokin as part of the problem. He eventually officially resigned Feb 16th, 2016. The meeting that Burisma wanted, but failed to get, with the state dept was for Feb 24th, 2016 according to the Washington Times article (Dave posted above). What does that tell you? For over a year the US was pressuring Ukraine to fire Shokin and right AFTER he resigns, Burisma wants the US to help them stop Ukraine from investigating them? If Shokin was really fired by Biden to protect Burisma, then all of their troubles would have been over. So why pay a lobbying firm to help stop a corruption investigation?
#17- The recording you are referring to is Joe Biden boasting at a Council On Foreign Affairs meeting in 2018, that he told Ukraine leaders that the US would withhold $1 billion in loan guarantees (not military aid)if they didn’t fire Shokin to step up anti corruption efforts. He was boasting because, he likes to boast, and also because it worked. Shokin resigned. Surely you can see the difference between withholding loan guarantees to fire a corrupt persecutor and withholding badly needed military aid to essentially interfere with an american election.
Trump did not become even remotely interested in Ukraine or Hunter Biden until Joe Biden started to emerge as a the front runner and every poll showed him beating Trump badly. It was then and only then that Trump used his influence AND his shady contacts in Ukraine through Rudy and Paul Manafort (remember him? former Trump campaign chairman currently in prison)to withhold military aid unless the brand new president announced an investigation. The important part, the part that gets ignored mostly, is that he just wanted the investigation announced (on CNN specifically). He never seemed to care if the investigation was actually carried out. All of this information is part of the official record and all can be verified.
Trump hasn’t lost ‘billions’. He became president to sooth his own ego and to enrich himself. Take a look at how many tax payer dollars have gone to Trump owned properties. Your heads will spin. The press is hard on everyone. They are especially hard on him because he is so obviously dishonest and corrupt.
The support for Trump among the folks on this blog is inconceivable. Everything that he does and stands for flies in the face of values that Common Sense For Belmar seems to stand for. If you hate Hilary or Obama or Biden or Warren or whoever, it does not excuse what Trump does every day. I do not like Hilary and I do not like Biden but I am not letting my feelings about them blind me to the blatantly obvious danger that Trump poses to this nation.
The correct action here would have been the censure of the president. A formal condemnation of his actions. God help us if one party gains control of the House and 2/3’s majority of the Senate. That party could oust a sitting president of the opposing party for “some” abstract action, as is the case here. Hamilton warned of this. This two party system is not good.
#25 Your math is off. We have term limits thank God. The best the cowardly draft dodger could do is 2020-2024.
I vote for democrats sometimes. Please tell me, what is a cuck?
Why don’t you take a moment and do a little research on republican rep, and Trump lap dog, Jim Jordan. Particularly his time as assistant coach in the Ohio State wrestling program. Maybe he didn’t know at the time that Dr Richard Straus was sexually assaulting and raping over 1500 student athletes. But maybe he did and did nothing about it. The student athletes seem to think he knew. What if I voted for him? What does that make me?
Wake up and stop playing party politics. Both sides have pigs and criminals.
#28 You mad bro? Chill, man chill.
Oh really? My math is off? Trump could be president for the next 4, 8, 12 years and he should be! He gets the job done and is tremendous at trolling weak, servile individuals like yourself. Stop drinking the fake news sore loser CNN MSNBC NY Times WaPo kool aid. And use google if you want a definition of a word
#29-at being called a ‘cuck’ (whatever that is) for voting my conscious? Yea bro, I’m a little perturbed. But I am also very chill. I just though my republican loving, Democrat hating friend should look at rep Jim Jordan and see that maybe blind loyalty to a party ain’t such a good idea. But thanks for looking out for me bro. Namaste
While we debate impeachment and bring power and ego and money into question I’d like to point out that becoming president of the Us is a payload for whoever it is. The Clintons and Obamas were average wage earners when they entered the political arena. (I know there were college degrees and such, degrees and law licenses etc). They leave the White House extremely wealthy, with 7 million dollar homes on Martha’s Vineyard, 500 hundred dollar speaking engagement fees, foundations that collect millions from both foreign and domestic donors. How is that not frightening? Where is that money coming from?
The Trump and Bloomberg campaigns came in with money. Lots of it. Is that worse or better?
So one can say personal and family financial gain is part of the deal by becoming the President if the United States.
Let’s not be naive here and pretend either party nor independents for that matter, have a superior moral compass.
History will decide how this President is viewed.
What scares me most of all from both sides of the aisle is the inability to except the outcome of an election by constantly demeaning the opposing party. Thank God (and our Founding Fathers) for term limits and the electoral college.
I wish I could get my kid a job for $50k/month in an industry he knows nothing about. Nowhere does it say that life should be fair. And my kid had better be good to me! Or else, ha ha… Cuckoo Trump ain’t so cuckoo.
BTW, it’s pretty common in DC for countries to find “jobs” for relatives of powerful American politicians who can affect how much foreign aid they get.
And you’re ok with that admin?
A lot of foreign aid gets kicked back to the politicians who push for it. I would end all military and economic foreign aid. It’s part of the swamp.
#32 I agree. There is a pot of gold at the end of the US presidency. Usually from speaking engagements . The founding fathers did start the electoral college but term limits for pres wasn’t a law until 1951. But yes thank goodness.
#34- You are probably right. And that is pretty gross. But pressuring an ally to interfere with our elections is a whole other kettle of fish.
#30-
The law says two limits. You don’t like the constitution anymore than that reality TV start of a president does. It’s funny how Trump sycophants like you only attack the messenger. Read the posts here. Refute just one of the facts that have been listed about him. Just one. Here’s my guess, you won’t. Because you can’t. Because it’s the truth. You have an unhealthy attraction to a man that cares only for himself. A failed businessman that has five kids from three separate wives. Imagine if Obama had that pedigree. Wow. Your hypocrisy is the definition of weak and servile. You are no better than that coward you so blindly worship Getting the job done? The economy, numbers wise, hasn’t improved as much as it did under Obama. The deficit is higher than it has ever been. And now, oddly enough, we literally are the laughing stock of the world. The only job he’s gotten done is to get an s load of conservative federal judges approved so that soon the government will decide what you can and can’t do in your own bedroom. But hey, you keep waving your banner.
Did you look into Jim Jordan? No. Too painful? I don’t blame you.
No one wants to spend more on military than Trump. You should vote Dem if you want to change that Dave.
I said military foreign aid.
Some of the people on here that rabidly hate trump really need to take a step back. Both sides really need to calm down. Is trump the best president ever? NO. But i do think he has done more to help this country and it’s citizens than the past few administrations.
obama said manufacturing was never coming back. Trump brought some back.
lowest unemployment in 50 years
wages are finally going up after years of being stagnant.
China finally being brought to the negotiation table. Something the last 4-5 administrations could not or would not do.
If the dems want me to vote for them then show me what you are going to do to make things better, not just tell me the current man is bad. If they had a candidate that said “hey. Trump has done some great things with the economy and we would like to continue with some of his polices. We disagree with him on (whatever) and this is how we are going to change it. THAT would get me to seriously consider a dem candidate, but i won’t hold my breath.
This impeachment is a joke and complete scam.
you all realize that this impeachment inquiry is over a phone call where the phone calls contents were released to the world but the witnesses testified that they heard something from someone else who might or might not have heard the call who’s entire contents were already released?
Unless you ask nancy pelosi who when asked why the impeachment was moving along so fast (remember the phone call was the trigger) she replied that they were not moving fast at all… they have been working on impeachment for 2 years.
nobody cared when obama told russian president dmitri medvedev he would have more flexibility to negotiate on issues such as missile defense after the 2012 election.
Nobody cared when biden told ukrane to fire the prosecutor or they were not getting a billion or OUR tax dollars and that he was leaving in 6 hours.
Nobody cared when obama used executive privilege not to turn docs over (fast and furious, where americans died) or have people testify. Eric holder straight up ignored house subpoena. But trump is getting impeached over using his right for the judicial branch to see if the house is correct.
I’m pretty sure that deals like this have been going on since there were people in power.
For all the people on here cheering for the impeachment just remember that the clinton and nixon impeachments were bi-partisan. This is strictly along party lines. One day there will be a dem president and a republican house. Are you going to be ok with the republicans following the same rules against a dem president just because they don’t like him?
there is nothing in the Constitution that says a president must give-up his day job
#38 it’s too easy to tweak your cherry stones! Trump is gonna go full FDR and exceed his two term limit. The silent majority will prevail and the socialist leftist minds will continue to sink a once respectable Democratic Party. Sad!
#38 Keep talkin dirty to me baby.
#41 Random- Please read post #26 for the Biden Ukraine breakdown All the facts (look em up) are there. The US economy is a massive ship. It takes years for any discernible movement to materialize. The fact is that the economy has been growing for 10 years. Unemployment has been dropping that entire time. Trump has yet to match the job numbers that Obabma had in his last year in office. I’m sorry but these are numbers and numbers don’t lie. Trump was handed the keys to a humming economy. I’m sorry if I don’t want to ignore all the horrible things he is because he hasn’t yet crashed it into a tree. Yet. You are a republican I assume, yet you are not worried about the deficit? That’s all we heard from republicans during the Obama years. China, ok I guess you can say that they’ve come to the negotiating table. There is no deal yet AND the cost has been severe. Hopefully that will work out.
The phone call- The white released a rough transcript of the call. It literally states at the top that it IS NOT an exact transcript. Even still the president asks for a favor right after Ukrainian pres brings up the tomahawk missiles. Three people who testified at the public hearings WHO WERE ON THE CALL. Not hearsay, not second hand, ON THE CALL. The other people who were on the call- Pompeo, Bolton, Mulvany, are being blocked from testifying by the white house. Why? Of you didn’t do anything wrong why not let them testify? Did you even watch the hearings or read the transcripts? Or did you let Sean Hannity spoon feed you his version of events.
Please look all this up. It’s all there.
Yes people cared about fast and furious. I cared. When Obama would stymie investigations it wasn’t jump me (a supporter) who cared. The media cared too. This is not a double standard. Trump isn’t being impeached because he ignored a subpoena, he’s being impeached be cause he clearly broke the law.
I feel like I did back when Matt was mayor and I would try to explain what a dangerous person he was to democracy and people would say ” but our taxes haven’t gone up” “Belmar looks great” “There are palm trees on the beach”.
Wake up people come on. You’re smarter than that.
#42 There is an emoluments clause. It’s important. It’s being violated by Trump every day. If Obama was doing it, you be screaming. Just looking for the same standard here.
Even George Washington couldn’t meet the emoluments standards you’re holding Trump to. Please Google it.
#43 Yes, it is kinda sad. Now it’s time for your meds. I’ll get someone to clean the drool off your chin and and you can go on living off the government’s teat, while complaining about the government.
Ah yes, let’s alienate us from the rest of the world and pour tons of money into our tanks and jets – that’ll keep us safe.
Why is it that when Biden says he held up aid because Ukraine wasn’t doing enough to fight corruption that is accepted uncritically but when Trump says he held up aid because Ukraine wasn’t doing enough to fight corruption that is automatically an impeachable offense?
#26
Admin- Biden boasted at a foreign affairs meeting that he said he would hold up $1 billion in secured loans if Ukraine didn’t do a better job at combatting corruption. He never held anything up. He was acting in an official capacity. The EU and the WMF and the entire west wanted Shokin fired. He was corrupt and he eventually resigned before he could be fired.
Trump held up approved military aid (not the same as loan guarantees) to pressure Ukraine to announce an investigation into the son of his political rival. He was not acting in an official capacity. He set up a shadow policy with his personal attorney. Burisma was done by then. He never mentioned any other corruption AND he never cared (according to all testimony) whether or not the investigation into Hunter Biden was ever carried out. He was very clear that he wanted it announced. That’s all. The pentagon approved the release of the military aid with the qualification ‘Ukraine has sufficiently reduced corruption and therefore can receive the much needed military aid’. The state department said the same. That aid is for an ally that is currently at war with Russia, an adversary. Yet Trump held it up to dig up dirt on the front runner in the dem primary. That is a crystal clear abuse of power. It puts the US at a disadvantage strategically and it compromises our safety. I’m sorry that you don’t see the difference in those two things. However, I believe that what Hunter Biden did is unethical and the fact that Joe Biden didn’t stop it from happening makes him unqualified for the presidency.
But based on the evidence of what Trump did, it fits perfectly within the constitutional standard of high crimes and misdemeanors. He will not be convicted in the senate. But even at the risk to democracts in swing districts, he needs to be held to account. If Trump was a democrat (which he was for most of his adult life) this wouldn’t be a debate. You and all the conservative folks out there would demand impeachment. And you’d all be right.
My recommendation to all that see this impeachment as a ‘sham’ or ‘one sided’ read all the testimony and the transcripts from the proceedings. All of it. It’s hard to find out that a guy you put your faith into isn’t who you thought he was. Just ask all the Matt supporters.
If Biden was fighting corruption in Ukraine why didn’t he do something about his son?
#46- I have. Trump violates it every day. George Washington isn’t around to defend himself. How about we compare Trump to presidents of the last 50 years?
#49- The reason Mr. Admin. is that Biden did it under the Obama Administration. If you criticized the move against the Obama test you would have been called a racist. I just said something that most people are afraid to say. You’re all welcome.
#52, what’s your point, that since Biden should’t have allowed his son to work for Burisma (he shouldn’t have) that Trump shouldn’t be impeached?
C’mon, let’s have a real argument, one that stays with the line of reasoning and not jump to another issue, or a “well the other guy is bad, so…”
What I’m saying is in the Biden case there is real evidence and millions of dollars changing hands, laundered through some bank in Cypress. Where is the evidence in the Trump case? Speculation about motives is not evidence.
I feel like I’m talking to Claire. It’s hard to admit the guy you voted for is corrupt, but you gotta come clean and face facts.
#54 If you really believe that then I think you should engage in a different discussion on a more, um, unhinged platform.
#56- The evidence against Trump is robust as it is abundant. Three people on the call to Ukraine testified. Three. The other people who were on the call- Pompeo, Mulvany, Pence, Bolton- who could easily exonerate the pres and refute the testimony of three people that were also on the call and testified under oath as to what was said on the call, decided not to. If The rest of the eyewitness testified to firsthand knowledge of what was being done on the ground w Guliani and his two indicted henchmen. Also, there has been no, because there is no, legitimate reason given why the aid was held up or why it was released abruptly when the story broke. Before you say, “it was because Trump wanted corruption looked into’- the reason the white house gave for holding up the dough has changed numerous times. Also, if that’s the reason, then why keep it a secret? Why not share the info with the coequal branch of government that approved the funds in the first place?I have no idea what you mean by ‘where is the evidence in the Trump case?’. It’s all right there in the transcripts. Again, please read them.
Arrest Biden. I’m totally fine with that. But again, you cannot remove the guilt of one man because you think another one is also guilty of a different crime. It doesn’t work that way. You all know that.
57-Feliz Navidad y Prospero Ano Neuvo.
