Dave, perhaps you can answer this question for me since you have run for political office before. What happens to any balance of funds that were donated to a candidate’s election fund? In this case the Election Fund of Doherty and Brennan. I guess the most likely answer is that there never is a balance since candidates would just spend it on more fliers and marketing materials, but if there was – what happens to the money?

Of course they can’t be used personally, but they can be rolled over for use in another election or they can be donated to charity. In any case, every quarter where there is money sitting in a campaign account, a report must be file with ELEC in Trenton.

This isn’t a problem for Tom and I, BTW, because we spent every dime we got.

If I contribute $500 worth of Shoprite gift cards, can I be considered a “big shot”?

Send the $500 Shoprite gift cards to the address on the flyer and they would determine your class of contributor. Good luck!

I am sure that Mayor Matt would follow the lead of former NJ Senator Robert Torriceli. When he left he had 2.9 million left subsequently the NY Times wrote that he gave:
$4000. to a non-voting Conressman from Puerto Rico.
$10,000 to IL Governor Rob Blagojevich
    $40,000. to Harry Reid
$10,000. Doug Palmer Mayor of Trenton
Torricelli is second only to John Edwards in this concern.
