Liar Flyer

Dems accuse Mark and the Republicans of being dishonest about the Brandywine proposal.

All you need to do is go to the minutes of that May 15 meeting and you’ll see they didn’t vote not to proceed, in fact they didn’t vote at all.  Brian decided that discussions on the issue should “be postponed for six months”. Six months puts us at November 15, conveniently after the election.

If the Democrats win here this thing is coming.

You cant compare building apartments in Neptune City to the overdeveloped, overcrowded town of Belmar with zero parking. Let’s compare apples to apples. If that’s all McGovern has, hes in trouble!

  8. Thanks Dave for bringing this lying flier to people’s attention. I, along with my running mates, Pat Wann and Jim McCracken, did mail a flier about the redevelopment going on in Belmar. And yes, I did focus on the two hundred six apartment Brandywine project that was proposed for Main St. At the March 2018 council meeting, when the project was put before the council, there were way too many unanswered questions. To build a new municipal complex, it was proposed we would have to give the developer twenty five years of zero taxes. There were no traffic, infrastructure or financial (municipality and school) impact studies done. The big question in my mind at the time was, who are the people negotiating and discussing the plans for this project? I voted no at the March meeting because of these unanswered questions. At the May 15, 2018 council meeting, Brian Magovern proposed a six month postponement due to our busy summer season arriving to which I and the council agreed. There was no vote taken “NOT to proceed with this project”. I also stated that there needs to be a committee put together, made up of professionals and residents, to study and discuss different ideas on how to move forward with any new municipal complex project. If it’s decided we move ahead with redevelopment, it must be well thought out and reasonable and we must find ways to offset some of the costs. Since that meeting , this project has not been brought up again. But, after this election is over, I cannot be certain where this issue stands. The flier we put out was to assure Belmar voters, if our team gets elected, we will demand questions concerning projects are answered prior to being introduced to the mayor and council, as should all projects. Our team of Pat Wann, Jim McCracken and myself are running on inclusion not exclusion. We want transparency in our governing body. As to the lying flier claiming I misled residents about being a developer, I never denied I was. Yes, I do have a condo (not apartment) project in the works in Neptune City. Neptune City has very little redevelopment and they welcomed my project. That being the case, it still took over 5 1/2 years to approve because the governing body and residents were thorough in looking at every aspect of the project. Belmar should do the same. That’s not what happened after Superstorm Sandy. Brian Magovern was charged with the task of deciding replacement designs for the pavilions and buildings on the boardwalk. His proposal to the council was a giant two story Taylor Pavilion, a large pavilion at 8th Avenue with a roof top golf course and a safety pavilion (which is unusable, but that’s a whole other issue). Thankfully a group of concerned residents joined together and petitioned to stop this overdevelopment because it was not right for our town . Thanks to Brian Magovern’s design plans and determination to see them through no matter what , litigation was brought about which cost Belmar taxpayers thousands of dollars. Our team, Pat Wann, Jim McCracken and myself, are in favor of redevelopment where it is appropriate, but we want inclusion and we must look at every aspect before any redevelopment project is approved. Belmar voters need to go to the polls on November 6th and vote for team Walsifer Wann and McCracken to ensure measures are put in place so that proper redevelopment is done.

Hey fellow meddling kids – check out minute 45 of the March 20 meeting video where Councilman Walsifer is forced to give a “straw poll vote” to move forward with the Brandywine project. Walsifer didn’t want to say yes or no, but wanted more studies and details before voting. After being forced to state yes or no, at 48:40 he says no. Councilman Magovern says “So you’re saying no project. No project. You want to stay in this building.” You’ll see he’s admonishing Walsifer for saying no. Magovern goes on to say that he does want a new building and his vote is yes. Walsifer was the lone no “vote”.
