Social Media page for the lifeguards? I think we should have one for Colleen so that we can tell her what type of job she is doing! Confession…everything about her bothers me.

Why would anyone want to work as a lifeguard in Belmar ? So some person that has no idea of what your doing can post pictures of you sitting in your stand no doubtly with a negative comment. For $10 an hour really ? #shitshow # not worth it

“Policies and procedures”, “inter-operability” sounds like terms from the FBI manual. The previous administration did a fine job without this malarkey.

Don’t believe a word this administration is telling the public. The hires were a inside job. Not everyone who put an application in for the top jobs were interviewed. They hired people who will succumb to their wants and needs. Water rescue volunteers were the only ones interviewed. There were many more highly qualified and experienced senior guards who were not given an opportunity for a interview. Why? Dahrouge is highly unqualified and will be a puppet as is Huisman & Kerecman(never a Belmar guard) times have changed and this ain’t Avon of over 25 years ago. Qualified applicants need not apply….as so it goes.

#9 – I agree that this is an inside job as you say but the tihng is this. All they’re doing is replacing one set of people who’ve been sitting there for years with another dubious set of people. Nothing to see hear – move along.

They will give this new guy carte blanche to spend and get anything he wants, to make him look good. Why couldn’t the previous supervisors be given that? Any requests they made fell on deaf ears and empty promises. This whole thing was a political sham.

I went to school with Mike Dahrouge. He is a poor choice for any leadership position. Believe me.

#15 The firing of the previous supervisors to bring in an outsider with not nearly the experience and knowledge is a political sham. Not to mention that he is retired from the prosecutors office. Let’s see, who else works for the town that’s retired from the prosecutors office? Hmmm…..

#19 – That had nothing to do with lifeguards. They were just two girls who didn’t think – Has that ever happened before, two girls not thinking? Can’t be helped. These things happen – too bad.

Sure, but there was no police enforcement for after-hours swimmers/bathers. Dumb or reckless or ignorant people come in all ages. Show them the money…can’t buy off people with fundraisers and such and think that takes care of the problem. Yeah, too bad.

#21 So should the town have police guarding the beaches 24/7? People will always do dumb things. Unfortunate that these two girls made the mistake of swimming without lifeguards present.

  23. beachnik wrote:

24/7? That is not feasible. At least on days with pleasant weather and absolutely fine people who break the ban (the signs at the beach prohibit swimming/bathing when no lifeguards are present). My opinion is that the mass firings was just a public relations, spin control attempt to appear to make things look better because there was no enforcement by the borough of its own laws, and unfortunate drownings, as well as a proposed lawsuit, occurred (which would have happened any way, as it is impossible to keep people out of the ocean, accidents happen, and people love to sue. Changing the signs at the beach is the first step, coupled with fines for lawbreakers. Don’t say “swim at your own risk.”

Think about this would the Belmar Police Department promote a class one or class two Officer with a few years of experience to become the chief of police answer is of course not – why is the Lifeguard department any different why would you take someone that has not worked the beach in about 30 years has less than 10 years of Lifeguard beachfront Ocean rescue experience and put them in charge of one of the busier beaches in the state of New Jersey. He will do as he’s told he will probably clean up some of the loose ends that need to be cleaned up and institute all of this so-called change is the chief of police wants to make I’d be shocked if there’s any changes at all. The beach is will be set up the same the same cast of characters will be back in their normal spots and the only thing you’ll see different is the person driving the truck on the street.
