And then vote for them.
Use the comments section to nominate people you would like to be the next Councilperson. When we get 4 or 5 names in I will add them to the poll and activate it. As more names come in I will continually add them to the poll. Of course if the people you like are already up on the poll then you should just vote for them.
You can nominate more than one person if you choose and, like with last week’s poll, you can vote for your top 3 choices. Make all your selections first and then click “Vote”.

Who is Pat Wann?
Who’s Patt Wann ?
Will Pat Wann please explain what he/she is all about.
Looks rigged to me…let me guess. Pat Wann whoever that is was already chosen as the next candidate?
#12 – Apparently so.
I thought this was a select someone you would like to see run kind of a thing.
Looks like a lot of people would like to see Pat Wann as our candidate.
I voted for Pat Wann. She can speak for herself when it comes to why she would like to run. When we get down to the nitty gritty of selecting a candidate listen with an open mind.
Can you tell us about Patt, I never heard of her?
Googled Pat Wann. One article found that gives some of her viewpoints.

Now is the time for all good people to come to the aid of Belmar, Patty Wann!
thank you for your votes. I’m a woman who’s lived in Belmar for 40 years. I raised my children here. This was a town where your political party didn’t matter, we all got along. Then Matt and his gang drove a wedge between us. He called us names, plunged us into debt, sold us out to Chefs, Merrimakers, and anyone else he could. He’s disrespectful to residents at council meetings. The dismantling of our wonderful lifeguards was the last straw. I’m retired and I’m fed up. I’m throwing my hat in the ring and I’m running. As far as being rigged, haven’t we had enough of that, let’s get our town back.
Thanks # 16. That article shows that Pat Wann was opposed to the two story pavillions, wanted the dune structure we were promised but never got and was a person who walked the streets of Belmar gathering signatures on Petitions.
That for me is a positive.
Sounds great Pat. Why not run for Mayor ? Who’ve already said more in public than the republican councilman has in a year up there.
Yup. Just as I figured.
Thank you to anyone who has expressed support. Pat Wann is a long time resident of Belmar and if she is willing to run this year I throw my full support behind her. She has tirelessly advocated for her neighborhood and would do the same for the entire town. She is decent and respectful something we need at our council meetings. She is not influenced or conflicted by “her political career”. I believe she would be transparent and open minded, her presence on the council would be the refreshing change we desperately need! Pat will give us our town back.
And 6 years later we still don’t have any dunes even after the monster catering hall was built on my dimes and yours. We begged to be allowed to follow Bradley Beach’s excellent, proven example utilizing Christmas trees but NI that was Vetoed by the Mayor immediately after our request for consideration. Another storm is brewing and is predicted to hit us this week folks. Respect the Ocean especially if you can’t read the tidal charts.
Public safety in Belmar is secondary to personal ambition and private deals for buddies. The so-called safety pavilion? What’s up with that? The Merry Maker Pavilion has been up and running first and foremost. Who was at the opening of the misnamed Taylor Pavilion (ha ha, a misnomer if there is one!)? Politicians, of course. The town has been overtaken by a yuppie creep and his cronies. Don’t be fooled by the fixture called Magovern, his light bulb is burned out.
Vinnie Ap the Belmar barber?
Well said Mike Seebeck
I am sure Pat Wann is a caring person, but I do not believe Pat will resonate with enough voters to win an election…
Pat. Can b e the best that Belmar has seen in years She will work for the Belmar homeowners for sure. All the residents must vote for her if she gets on the ballot, time will tell
#22 Pat Wann quote ” “Let’s put dunes up,” said Wann. “This is a residential area and look what happened to us. Let’s not rebuild the boardwalk again and again after a storm comes up.”
REALLY? SHE SAID THAT?
http://blog.nj.com/njv_paul_mulshine/2013/08/endless_bummer_belmar_battles.html
I am sure Pat would do a great job, but the best person for a political position does not always win…. The candidate that resonates with the voters wins…. Also we should not say the RESIDENTS OF BELMAR MUST VOTE FOR PAT…. We need to encourage Pat to earn the vote of the residents…
The men and women of the Belmar Beach Patrol appreciate Pat Wanns support and she will have ours and everyone we know in the upcoming election. Nicolay is just another puppet on the council. She needs to go too. Too bad Brennan just got in. He’s another dope agreeing to get rid of experienced lifeguards.
Seems like Wann knew what she was talking about when she spoke to Mulshine and it’s “Dunes baby Dunes”, a viable SOLUTION to eventual, predicted tidal erosion at the beach not just relying on questionable insurance reimbursements.
#29. I believe the context of that quote was that we should build the dune system to protect the boardwalk that we keep rebuilding after all the hurricanes we have had. The dune system that was promised and never delivered.
Careful Bette your erudition is showing. Plant the damn dunes on the beach. Enough of the OT sand berms.
And the cost of diesel fuel to repeatedly build, take down and build those sand dunes blocking resident and pedestrian views of the Ocean (for six months) would have been enough to plant the Garden of Eden. Belmar, pennywise and pound foolish.
I lived next door to Pat many years ago when I first moved to Belmar. Nice lady, and she struck me as the kind who does not suffer fools. She’s got my vote.
Wow it’s now neck and neck, 93/93, between nobody and nobody. What a way to make change.
#19, by these standards does this mean Councilman Walsifer is not qualified to run for Mayor? I don’t remember him even raising his head above the water line.
35 and 34. The dunes Pat referred to in that August 2013 article was not about the copying of Bradley nor what they do today. It was a a PROMISED engineered dune system that would have been permanent. Matt sung about it, got bids on it and pulled it with no good exsplaination. Back in the beginning of HIS recovery!
Belmar should anchor Dune grasses and beach fauna and foliage like many other local beaches that were not harmed during nor’easters.
Much water damage sustained in Belmar over many storms can be attributed to homes being built on underground springs together Lake and Ocean rise.
Sandy was a fluke!
39 – Did the council then use the approved money which was bonded for the dune system to pay for Epic change orders for the boardwalk?
#37 Ok Demorat let’s keep the current ship of fools.
Anyone is better than our Belmar councilwoman who calls downtown shop owners trying to sell us coupon clipper ads. Just another form of tax.
#38, No, not really. Talk to him, he’s shady.
41. Oh what a terrible web HE Weaved!!
On the 2019 Agenda: Plant Native grasses, fauna and foliage at the beach to start dune protection.
Reinvigorate beach conservation.
