The statement was prepared two days after a $12.5 million school bond was passed in a January 24, 2017 referendum. Remember Manasquan has a high school and is a receiving district for Avon, Belmar, Brielle, Lake Como, Sea Girt, Spring Lake, and Spring Lake Heights.
Below I republish Belmar’s 2016 debt statement.
Both towns have populations of about 5700. And the two towns have almost identical total gross debt. But on borrowing that is controlled by their respective Councils…that is the beach utility, the water utility and the municipal portion…Belmar has over $15.5 million more in debt than Manasquan, almost 73% higher.
Note also that Belmar just borrowed another million for parks and playgrounds.

What’s the extra 15 million debt represent in terms of overall tax increasw per property?
In fairness Manasquan has a larger tax base, and more commercial buildings.
When does fair enter into these things? Stop spending money……………………
The only number that counts is the bottom line,, debt percent per valuation basis. Twice that of Manasquan.
