Mayor, do us all a favor and stop the seasonal rentals this year. Give the town the break it needs. Get it right
Stop rentals? Never happen bars controls all politics in Belmar.
I don’t get it. If the pandemic restrictions are lifted by summer and the beaches are open. What does it matter if there are summer rentals or not? Believe me, there are no where near the amount of summer rentals as there were years ago. Belmar always has and always will be a summer town.
Good luck with this mayor.
Do the right thing Mark,We need you to protect the residents.
You’re right #3, you just don’t get it. So I guess all the other towns have it wrong in stopping their summer rentals. And where do you think those people scorned from the other towns may go. Yep, Belmar, party on. Todays news gave Monmouth County a kudos in our attempts to control this thing. And you want all those other northern and out of staters to come on down brig their habits and diseases with them. Go move to Bergen County. Don’t bother to bring a mask, they can’t be bothered wearing them up there. DUH
Hey Duh, If you think all the people on Ocean Ave and the beach today are all from Belmar then I have a bridge to sell you. I’m an optimist. IF the pandemic is lifted no one can control or stop people from out of town from coming to the beach, Belmar or anywhere else. People will hopefully be sensible, practice social distancing and try to be safe. I’m sure sure there were summer rentals already signed before this all started or people that rent the same place year after year or people that own summer homes here. Are they all supposed to stay away too?
However unpopular this may sound in Belmar, the good people of Jackson, Pennsylvania, Nebraska and all other points west have a constitutional right to enjoy the tidal lands including the beloved Belmar beachfront. Theres also a clause in there that prohibits governments from restricting travel. You may say, “yeah, but what about Sandy?” Belmar is not a disaster area. In many ways Belmar is not any different than anywhere else in the nation during this pandemic. But we have the added benefit of having a large, natural open space which is maintained at least in part by all taxpayers dollars. Next time the beach gets replenished thank your neighbors to the west who largely paid for it. As long as people practice responsible distancing, they should be encouraged to share what we have. As long as they don’t get run down on Ocean Avenue and they leave at the end of the day there shouldn’t be any issues for the town.
Ask the Sheriff of Monmouth County as to what Direction Mark should take to forestall life altering tragedy in short term rentals including but not limited to seasonal rentals. Government supported (transient hotels are exempted) properties are exempted from isolation per Government.
Murphy doesn’t want to be blamed for closing the beach towns. Plenty of sales/alcohol tax money to collect.
#8 Try to tell that to the Delaware police that will stop you and turn you around.
Where are you? I never understood Libertarians – not because of their ideology – but because of the flip flopping. Sometimes your liberties superseed sociatal health and sometimes it doesn’t. Maybe this crisis will help you see that government is here to provide a level playing field for competition (not socialism – just keeping it fair), as well as the safety of the community. Your freedoms vs. other’s freedoms can get tricky. We live in a society, therefore we have rules that work best for all. Sorry you can go sneeze on someone, or blow cigarrette smoke on them, or walk around with an AR 15. Those of you complaining that Walsifer should shut down everything – please don’t call yourself a Libertarian. Don’t talk about personal responsibility. Don’t side with Trump (who wants everything open). You’re a hipocrite if you do.
Are you saying libertarians want to sneeze on people, blow smoke on people and carry around heavy ass ar-15’s?
They must be terrible people.
