I remind the readers that under New Jersey’s school funding plan the residents of Belmar pay upwards of $10 million of income tax into the pot and get back nine hundred and something thousand dollars out of it.

Belmar got terrible scores
I despise all these so-called “scools” and now I despise them more. This afternoon while walking home I came upon a police officer (I know the police officer was only doing the job he was assigned by his superiors) doing skool crossing guard work at the corner of 18th and Main. That’s some sort of HS down there. If a HS aged student can’t get safely acrost a street with a traffic light by themselves, they’re not worth drawing rations for.
#4. The crossing guard is not on 18th Avenue for the high school. He is there for the Belmar Elementary students who walk home to Lake Como.
#5 – If so, then why was the guard going out there stopping traffic for three obviously HS aged kids crossing the St.? Sir/Madam, what you say is Malarkey, and even if it weren’t malarkey, no patrolman should be assigned as a crossing guard at a traffic light. The idiocy just seems to get more worser and more worser as time goes by. Lastly, get outside and you’ll see things (that was a joke of course, you’re not going outdoors, are you).
#6. The idiocy is the behavior of drivers down Main St and 18th Ave, regardless of the traffic light. If the guard is already there for the elementary school, is he supposed to ignore others crossing the street because of their age? Please don’t presume to know my outdoor activity patterns. You can make your points without being a jerk.
#6 – I’m 60+. Walking down main st a few months ago, a crossing guard stepped out for me to cross. Guess the code is, if he/she’s there, they will do what they do for anyone. Nothing wrong with that. I said thanks, have a good day, and went on my way.
#8 – There’s a lot wrong with it. There should be no paid personnel at streets with traffic lights. If they want to put a person there, then put an 8th grader there. If they don’t have 8-10 8th graders in the school who could do the job, then shut the dumb school down. That’s what they did when I was a boy and that was in Brooklyn and my school, PS-92 only went up to 6th grade. Sixth graders then must’ve been as smart as adults are now. We just go from dumb to dumber anymore.
It was a real Honor to be a student crossing guard when we were kids. The little ones loved them and the older kids had more respect.
