Kirschenbaum has an excellent reputation in terms of employment. He is from Belmar-he is a triplet with two brothers sharing his birthday. His mother, Alice Harris, was a dedicated Belmar board of education member for many years. Ed has experience as a business administrator. I’m happy he’s replacing Colleen Connolly. He has Belmar roots and will work well with the present Belmar staff.
When the Walsifer administration appointed the new CFO I was thrilled. She is extremely qualified and not a political hack. What are the credentials of this retired cop? Did he attend college and obtain a degree in business administration? He may have been a good cop and a nice guy, but Im disappointed in Walsifer for not appointing someone more qualified. Im sure Kirschenbaum is buddy buddy with our “acting” chief. I was hoping that our new BA wouldnt be a political hack. Admin, is this a definite or a rumor?
I’ve known Eddie for 50 years. He has always been a stand up guy. I don’t care if you are his best friend or worst enemy he treats everyone with respect. He will not be swayed by politics. He is a Belmar guy. Everyone I know loves and respects this guy. I am confident in his abilities as BA. Give him a chance to do his job which I know he takes very seriously. Mark made a great choice.
I have also known Eddie for 50 years (even though he and Sonny look way older than I do). In addition to being a really good person, Eddie is fair-minded, honest and a straight-shooter. His most recent experience as Neptune City’s public safety director for the past eight years will be be extremely valuable in bringing Belmar’s police salaries and overtime under control. I’m also hopeful he will put his prior experience as the Chief of Detectives in the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office to good use in getting to the bottom of a number of issues, not least of which, why most of the Tenth Avenue Pavilion still isn’t habitable, and how that and the Fifth Avenue Pavilion were built at a cost of more than $6.5 million, with extensive work performed by DPW employees, yet without a single change order having ever been passed by resolution of the governing body as required by law. Finally, and most importantly, especially for Belmar’s residents and employees, I want to echo Sonny’s comments about Eddie’s respectfulness of others, and that he will always have Belmar’s best interests at heart. He will be a much-needed breath of fresh air for our town.
#8 & #13-While I have not known Eddie as long as you both have I have to agree 100% with you. He is a fair minded person who doesn’t allow friendships sway him. To the nay sayers perhaps give the man a chance and keep in mind the mess he has to clean up!! And again he will far surpass the former merry maker cook who had ZERO experience.
Ken, I’ve heard about the lack of transparency regarding the pavilion change orders and was wondering who would ultimately be responsible for approving these orders without going to the mayor and council ? Would it be the BA or the mayor acting alone ? Correct me if I’m wrong but someone had to say “just do it”
Ed Kirschenbaum is an excellent choice for Belmar’s business administrator. He is practical and level-headed when making important decisions during his employments. Great to have him aboard-I hope for long term.
#15. The change orders would have come from the architect and/or engineer, and been given to Connolly. I don’t think she did anything that wasn’t at Dohery’s direction or with his approval, including the decision not to present the change orders to the Council for its approval or rejection at a public meeting as required by New Jersey’s public contracting laws.
I hope Mr Kirchenbaum is the right choice, it can’t be worse. However I can remember dopey Mayor Magoo being described the same way, straight guy,Belmar first guy. A little power does funny things to some people.
#18 [Ken]The Boro has an attorney and if the law is being violated is it not a duty that the attorney has to protect the boro from damage? The public contracting law was enacted,in part, to prevent corrupt politicians and contractors from defrauding the citizens. If the boro was damaged monetarily what remedies exist and from whom would damages be collected? And are there criminal penalties as well for violation of this law? Seems nothing is done when this crowd has thumbed their noses at the citizens and the law.
He sounds like a decent guy who has had detectivd jobs and thus knows how the world works and knows how to read people and geg facts needed to clear up murky political antics.
#22 – It always appears that our attorneys are there to protect the Mayor against the questioning public, and think it’s the reason they don’t last very long. They most likely are too ethical to continue.
Gene nailed it as usual. 3 years after Sandy ripoff the experts in Pay to Play made the deal to walk in the Borough Hall back door because they were all out of their depth or CORRUPT.
#24 it would seem that ethics would require that the attorney ,who is not paid by the mayor but by the citizens, has a duty to see that the corruption does not damage the client. It would also seem that it is malpractice when a lawyer whose job it is to know what is legal and illegal fails to properly advise the council that the administration is in violation so the parties in interest,in this case the taxpayers, are not harmed. Can the damage caused be quantified? if so a claim letter for the attorneys e&o carrier should be one of the new BA’s priorities before statute of limitations are a problem if they are not already.

Please tell me this is an early April fool’s joke?

#2 You may have to eat your words.

I don’t have any official confirmation but I’ve heard it from sources I consider to be very reliable.
Zero qualifications, Zero certifications. 100% political.
2 steps forward, 1 step back.
The way I look at it is ANYONE is better than Colleen. Let see if he takes us in the right direction.

#8-I agree with you-100%!
I agree with Sonny! Eddie is a great fit and will be great for the town.
Should have been an open search for the most qualified person.
#11 I agree. This was a quick and easy selection. Walsifer spent below average amount searching for a “new and qualified” person.

Great hire. No BS with this guy.

I smell a cooperating witness in the wings.

Mr. Ken, didn’t you say all those wonderful things about Doherty when you brought him here? I guess time will tell with this appointment.

Change is here, yay

our elected officials gave Epic carte blanche at the December 28, 2015 public meeting

23: absolutely on point. They all have Professional E & O policies. The issues are timely filing.
