I think proper funding of schools keeps Belmar a viable year around town.we don’t fund the school we will soon look like Hunter New York and other resort towns where it’s all vacation home ownership. $5 a month on a 500,000 investment, your home doesn’t sound like much to me.
Belmar residents, through the state income tax they pay, contribute $10 million a year to the fund which now is going to give back to Belmar less than $900,000. Imagine what Belmar could do with that money if it stayed in Belmar.
Mr. Admin. I know exactly what they WOULD do with an extra $900k. WASTE it wisely. How bout a novel idea and REDUCE taxes. And Guest. Sure. What’s 5 dollars?? Well five dollars here and 10 dollars there and another 20 dollars here and there and before you know it you can’t afford to live here. You are lowering the standard of living on those on fixed incomes. But, then again, us old people are just a burden on society anyway.
Not 900k, 9 million. We could let the taxpayers keep most of it and still fund the school very handsomely.
Sir, I stand corrected. And can anyone guess where our $9M we pay is spent. Can you say Asbury Park, Newark, Camden and on and on. And don’t forget all those political State of NJ BS jobs that run the machine(state mandated testing, programs, courses and special needs BS). Oh and don’t forget ESL. If you want to live in this country, learn to speak English. Thank you.
Not property taxes, income taxes. I guess that’s roads, libraries, police, etc?
If you weren’t paying state income taxes, which are collected only to fund the state’s fraudulent school aid scheme, your property tax wouldn’t hurt so much. You could even afford to pay a little more. $10 million extra would stay in Belmar every year. The absence of a state income tax was one of the bigger motivators for me to come up here.
Part of the problem is we keep building homes and apartment buildings marketed as second homes or for retirees. A vibrant community needs a mix of people of all ages. We can’t keep building like this and wonder why there aren’t any more kids in town. Building 200 studios and one bedroom apartments isn’t the answer. Belmar is a great place to raise kids. We need places middle income families can live not more studios.
#8- When your school is rated 4 out of 10 why would you want to buy a house to raise kids here? More than 50% of the present school population do not own their own homes here. I suspect that the parents of the 50%ers can not borrow money here legally. Maybe that’s why the school is rated so low.
#9 BINGO
Am I reading the article correctly? Asbury has a $44M budget?
I’m elated that more and more people are finally coming to understand the “school system” is nothing but a giant racket. The Mafia has nothing on the government and it’s “educational” gang.
The whole school system is F…d up
#12 – Are we to assume you were home-schooled?
#14 – Sir/Madam, It makes no difference to me what you do.
#15 – What????
