People will never learn. Don’t go in the water when the experts say not to. Very simple. Also very sad.

#2 – Yes, people will never learn, but they should have the right to their idiocy. Of course, they endanger other people who might attempt to save them but I still believe government shouldn’t make decisions for them as if they were children.

Just for my own understanding. Is there a reason that would prevent us from extending the lifeguard season and additional three to four weeks? Is there some sort of rule or reg that prevents us from doing this?

#4 Josh Most of the lifeguards go back to college or other full time work. #3 Some people need to be told what to do. That’s how dumb they are. Very sad. Have the cops there(class one’s) People don’t get out when told bring in the regulars.. arrest and fine them.

#6 that is where my head was too. What about LG’s that want to volunteer and get paid to do it?

I was on the beach Monday the 25th. There were police riding up and down the beach blowing whistles telling people to get out of the very rough surf. Signs no swimming. I can’t tell you how many people went back in as soon as the cops passed. Self responsibility does come in to play here.

Belmar town fathers did a good job with the existing beachfront regulations, that only need enforcement, to protect the public and satisfy insurers.

Any additional lifeguard protection costs could be paid by the Beach Utility and recovered by beach badge sales.

#6#8 if you Pay lifeguards to volunteer? Think about that . Which avenues do you post them to? You would need to cover the entire beachfront and then when people see lifeguards they think they can swim and be protected . I think Belmar does have lifeguards on beach after the season but we don’t publicize it to give a false sense of security . Tom has it right SEASON IS OVER!swim at your own risk.and when hurricane weather is about NO SWIMMING ALLOWED!

That’s just it Vicky, hire the retired, seasoned LGs to Supervise and provide surveillance in the Watch Tower at the 10th Avenue Safety Pavilion. Ever notice that Avon has à beach watcher in their tower?
