I do not like political signs, but if they are allowed, should not the property upon which they are placed be at least owned by residents? If the owner does not vote here, what is in it for him or her?
Lawn Signs cannot reason.
Nor can they vote. They are not as subtle and virtually undetectable as subliminal messages, but they do promote name recognition, especially in voters who just vote for the act of voting.
Thank God there are no other issues to address in Belmar! Yes yes let’s go after the hypocritical environmental stance. That will win the election for what’s his name. Ugh.
So what’s wrong with a few signs amidst all that lush landscaping? In Arizona or New Mexico I saw the “last chance fill up your gas tank” signs on the lonely highway. They were oddly appropriate but also out of place in the desert. What’s with the blue and green on the signs? Irish Democrats? Environmentally aware Democrats? Sheesh. Club me with a shillelagh.

#6. No Vote for the Republican on the ticket. Jim Bean is a great candidate but can’t win now. If Brennan wins …then there is no hope.
Brennan is just another plastic dupe for Doherty. Put a sign on your lawn, vote for him, then maybe your kid in public school may get an A in band?

#4. RIGHT ON. The irony in what’s his name’s spin on lawn signs is with no effort or money last year’s Walsifer/ What’s his name for Council signs could have easily been cut in half and recycled. Isn’t recycling good for the environment? Truth is a party and a candidate have a minimal responsibility to establish name recognition.
This weekend the Democrat guy was meeting and greeting around town. Has signs all over gaining momentum with name recognition. I hope the Republican wins, but I would not wager on it….
#4 / #11. You know my name… I have name recognition and I am doing it without wasting material and landfill space. I think the lawn signs are not very effective and potentially a hazard. I was thinking outside the box on this one, trying something new and going against the mainstream “lawn sign” mindset.
I spoke with a lot of folks last year that didn’t even request a Dem lawn sign, but one showed up on their lawn anyway… There is a Brennan sign on my block and those folks have lived in England since before I moved here in 2012 – the house is a summer rental and vacant in the winter time; they must be huge voters in our local elections…
The signs show popularity and we already know my opponent is more popular than me. But I ask you – does he have the real world corporate experience I have? I have 17 years of highly technical management experience and have built a successful business. And equally as important, I am completely “pay to play” conflict free, so I can vote on everything that is put in front of me – kind of important if you are holding a public position.
I am volunteering my time and energy to make Belmar better for my children and fellow residents. Smarter decisions – better direction.
Believe it or not, knowing how corrupt local politics in Belmar I actually read and investigate the campaign contribution filings on Belmar.com-Online records. Tommorow the 29 Day Pre-Election Reports are due for the Dems and Republicans.#13. You have repeatedly stated that you are “completely “pay to play” conflict free.” Maybe that is true but I find it hard to believe that a retired pilot who has lived his life in Wall, never contributed to any candidate donated $1500. of his retirement savings to you last year. Then there is a $2600. donation from a Pt. Pleasant Beach Bar owner stating he was the Marketing Director for Liberty Helicopters. I call Liberty Helicopters and the Marketing Manager, Pam Shaffer was surprised to hear it.

What you are battling IS popularity as much as it is ideas. If he beats you in popularity then he beats you at the polls. Starting to walk in October will not do you any good, if you are indeed walking. As you quote all the people you supposedly are talking to, all the people I talk to have no idea who you are. You need your name out there and seen! Big mistake on your part. I am voting a write-in. I would feel more comfortable sleeping at night knowing I voted my conscious, not my party.
Josh, your campaign is mediocre at best and a gift to Brennan. Let’s be real here, showing up to a council meeting in baby blue sneakers and thinking the masses will take you seriously. 313 followers on Facebook and NOTHING to say is why you lost the last election. Walsifer won because the people of Belmar demanded a change and Janis Keown-Blackburn was a notorious choice.

Today 10-8 from 7th and Main to the lake there were 3 signs. From 8th at the lake to A St there were 5. I do not see a land slide at this point. I have never liked the signs because of people taking them moving them and then they have to be removed. If the Republican Candidate does not want signs that is His choice. Remember the environment.
I don’t even know Josh but their must be something wrong with him to still want to run after facing so much hostility on this blog. TERRY, If Josh’s opponenet can be taken serious enough to win with a turkey feather ear ring then I suppose baby blue sneakers are not that far out of line.I really don’t care What someone adorns themselves with on the outside of their body only what’s on the inside of their brain and the actions they take on the direction of that brain.
# 7 – I wouldn’t call Janis notorious. I like her. I think she was the best of the group we don’t like. Plus, she’s the only one of them who has worked in the real economy (and still is) as a productive worker.
13 – You’re kidding yourself if you think that you have name recognition and the people of Belmar know who you are.
#13. It’s sad when the Republican candidate in Belmar advances the reason for his loss before the election. Lets discuss the he’s more popular reasoning. If he is more popular, he was three years ago. Fact is that despite Doherty winning over Bean, Mike Seebeck won mightedly against Brennan at the polls. He only loss ( 20 of 84 mail in ballots). The fact is most active voters vote people, not party, not popularity and certainly not to vote someone out of office. You have by intent and considerable forethought distanced yourself from the element in Belmar of which Seebeck was a prominent spokesperson. Seebeck was always outspoken on issues and not just five weeks before the election. He didn’t almost win because he was popular. He almost won because he never said ” if you elect me, I will get involved.”
#13 .. What makes you different from Mr. Brennan and what changes will you make to the numerous issues faced by the residents of Belmar?

Josh didn’t have time to go door to door, he was busy working and “family time”, according to his Facebook page….if you don’t have time to introduce yourself, and ask people for their vote, how will you have time to be a councilman? I can not in good conscience vote for Josh! I will not vote for the puppet either, so I’m at a loss here!
People keep slamming Josh but let me ask this… What has Tom Brennan done as a council member ?

I think most of the comments on this blog are of concern, for the perceived lack of engagement by the candidate. Again I hope he wins, as I would like to see the make-up of the council change. However, is he really doing enough to win???

Belmar has many challenges and my experience and knowledge can help this town. It really is that simple. I am the more experienced and qualified candidate.
#33 Perhaps do a mass mailer or challenge Brennan to a debate. Maybe get a permit if one is required, to do a speaking rally in Pyanoe Plaza, after making the event public? I have noticed that some residents are ignorant of what is going on in the Borough, the corruption, etc.

Josh, you are not saying it to enough people! Anyone who has ever worked on a campaign in this towns knows you will never win by spending the campaign at your day job and with your family! And if you think you can win this way, lets talk on Nov. 8th! Your a fool to think many intelligent people ran for council in Belmar, pounded pavement, raised money, sent mailers, etc. and lost…and you will win from your living room/office!

Just like back in High school student council elections, some rah, rah will push the cutest, jock/jill or the best partier as their candidate. Are we reduced to that type of scenario again? Who will win? You choose.
