And remember all those stupid beachballs bought for some event, don’t remember when, but recall seeing some deflated ones in the trash and on some lawns.
For all those on this blog defending the $35 Belmar council shirts, I guess this is OK also?? And you wonder why your taxes went up 10%. Just keep voting the incumbents in. They’ll go up another 10% next year. And I wear T-shirts with holes in them, stupid me. I guess I’m just old school. Ridiculous.
#8- Oh, so it’s OK that the beach utility pays for it???? Isn’t the beach fund in debt somewhere in $millions???? And you wonder why. Get a grip people. Vote Bean, one vote.
I don’t think either expense is wrong. We want a professional looking beach staff. Can’t have folks coming to work collecting money and giving directions if they look like every other person at the beach. There are many other places that spending can be cut to focus on. This is smoke and mirrors. I love how the dems keep saying they are bringing back free movies on the beach and all these other programs and not increase taxes.
#8 get a grip beach utility has historically had a surplus till Matt came along. And I believe it was Vickie Renner who’s idea it was that the beach employees should have a uniform or matching shirts not sure but she was right we are running a business down there and it should look professional.Yes seems like a lot of money but it is a lot of shirts and we also don’t know how many they get and if they are free or not.
#12 – Agreed! I like the cohesive look of the beach employees. It also helps out our visitors with any questions to know who to ask. I also think it’s fine that all Belmar employees wear coordinated “uniforms”.
You people are all missing the true point. Point being that if they are wasting pennies on BS 35$ council shirts, imagine how much is being wasted on the big ticket items. Rampant misspending I can assure you. And saving pennies here and there add up to dollars you don’t have to raise taxes for. We need someone in there that will keep an eye on spending, and that person is Jim Bean. The repubs will continue to blame the past, and I am getting tired of that. Show me what you are doing for me today. And #12- You need to get over the past, that the beach fund had a surplus, today the beach utility is broke. I would rather you spend money on teaching(training) these employees to say thanks you and have a nice day. Get their heads out of the books and cell phones. Where and whom are their bosses. Fire them.
Many years ago Belmar employees wore summer attire and brought an umbrella from home to use as a beach attendant. Driving through other towns I noticed how nice everything matched and looked uniform and professional. I spoke out about Belmar being a business and also mentioned renting chairs and umbrellas to beachgoers. I thought providing an upscale service to patrons was a good thing. The beach utility has always profited especially with beautiful weather . We are not suppose to take money from that utility unless it pertains to the beach.
I am happy one idea I had was implemented.I have a degree in design and do displays for a living. I see everything aesthetically and love to beautify. I have a million ideas to make Belmar better and did my best to improve Belmar. It’s a shame to make a difference you have to jump through so many hoops of bureaucracy. I am fully aware you can have all the ideas in the world but you need money. I also offered ways to generate income to pay for my ideas.
#16 I agree with the training. This summer many patrons noticed the rude behavior of some gate attendants. They could barely lift their head up to greet you . Maybe they should be renamed Greeters and understand they are representing Belmar.
Unfortunately bad behavior will not get the employee or boss fired.
#s 19&21 – Sirs/Madams – Interesting thoughts. But what you’re looking at is just the extension of the new manner of living. The not wanting to have to actually speak to a person or even have it extend to a real conversation.
Secondly, People do those “jobs” for a soft touch/ acquisition of money, nothing more, nothing less. It’s all about sitting and ending up with some money after a few hours of sitting.
#16 you know for a fact every $35.00 shirt was given away for free ? So you are saying Jim is going to micromanage borough hall so employees can’t use their favorite $2.00 pens they have to use the dollar pen that doesn’t work well? I guess we shouldn’t waist money on beach movies ? The beach utility will have a surplus again as long as Matt does not get back in control.
So am I to understand that matching tee shirts wouldn’t have gotten the job done ? What a joke ! Besides, how many people work at the beach ? This number seems very high.
Perhaps Mr. Bean should have broken down the amount of Hawaiian shirts that were purchased & what the price per shirt was. His insinuations are misleading.

Oh my! Do the Democratic candidates know about this? What would they think? Can somebody find them & tell them?
You remember them because Jim Bean called them out and refused to vote yes on them.
The beach utility paid for these shirts. Who paid for the polo’s?
That’s crazy
#3 – The beach utility paid for a lot of things, didn’t it?
What does beach staff wear in other towns? Do they have uniforms?

Doesn’t the beach utility pay for these? Our property taxes are not paying for these shirts.

Yeah – anyone know why the beach utility was in debt? Hhhhmmmmmm? Let’s ask Russo & McBride.

God forbid town employees get uniforms! What a joke. This is really scraping from the bottom of the barrel.

#18 – I sure wish they would take you up on your offers. Maybe the new administration will be more receptive?
They should not be allowed to bury their heads in cellphones, it’s a job.

Here’s a money saver. Get rid of the adult school crossing guards and replace them with unpaid school children like when I was a boy.
