Super Poll Sunday

Most of us would probably be happy with any number of the people on this list so I’m letting us vote for our top three choices.  Make up to three selections and then hit the “vote” button.

If there is some one you think I should add to the poll please send your suggestion into the comments.

I don’t know why Jim Bean is on the list with what is going on with his
Family. He has already admitted he can’t do it even if he wanted to.
Maybe he will run again someday when
Things are calmer and he has the time.
I wish him luck in all his endeavors
And peace and success for the whole family.

The seat should go to someone who ran in years past. They deserve the nod.

#3 Thank you Tulip for wishing us well, that is very kind of you. I must admit though, prior to reading the comments I voted for my husband! I am just catching up on Dave’s blog now. I probably would not mind Jim back up there. I love him to pieces, but he does not handle hospitals and confinement well. When our little guy gets home following his all his surgical procedures he will be housebound and recuperating for at least six months and I am already anticipating Jim going stir crazy. So I wouldn’t mind him getting involved in something he loves. But if that does not pan out, some of you on here please make sure to take him out for playdates, the poor guy will need it! Love you all for thinking of us, and have happy holidays!

Does anyone else thinks it’s strange to have registered Democrats on the list?In the last 26 years did the Democrats ever suggest a Republican to fill a Democratic seat?to even out the council? I also think they have someone in mind to fill the seat, but it’s fun to see without an actual vote who people are considering.

Of course they know. It was all part of the to be Administrations.plan for 2019. Anyone who pretends to doubt there was a post election plan to appoint someone for Mark’s vacated seat, 2019 is a hypocrite.

#13 The process for filling Mark Walsifer’s seat is governed by statute. The Republican Municipal Committee will recommend 3 names to the Mayor and Council, who must choose from that list.

Here’s the statute, which includes the time frames to be followed:

40A:16-11. Appointment to fill vacancy where incumbent was nominee of a political party; time to fill vacancy. If the incumbent whose office has become vacant was elected to office as the nominee of a political party, the municipal committee of the political party of which the incumbent was the nominee shall, no later than 15 days after the occurrence of the vacancy, present to the governing body the names of three nominees for the selection of a successor to fill the vacancy. The governing body shall, within 30 days after the occurrence of the vacancy, appoint one of the nominees as the successor to fill the vacancy. If the governing body fails to appoint one of the nominees within the time prescribed herein, the municipal committee that named the three nominees shall, within the next 15 days, appoint one of the nominees as the successor to fill the vacancy, and such person shall be sworn in immediately. If the municipal committee which nominated the incumbent fails to submit the names of the nominees within the time prescribed herein, the governing body may, within the next 15 days, fill the vacancy by the appointment of a successor from the same political party which had nominated the incumbent whose office has become vacant.

Ken, can the municipal committee submit just one name to the mayor and council thus making the vote a mute point ? Say if only one person wants the seat ?

#16 If the GOP municipal committee submits only one name, the governing body could appoint that person if it chooses to do so. But it could also take the position that because the committee failed to submit three names, the last sentence of the NJSA 40A:16-11 applies, and appoint any Republican the governing body agrees upon.

Here’s the text of that sentence:
“If the municipal committee which nominated the incumbent fails to submit the names of the nominees within the time prescribed herein, the governing body may, within the next 15 days, fill the vacancy by the appointment of a successor from the same political party which had nominated the incumbent whose office has become vacant.

I think it would be important to appoint a town businessperson to the seat. Many of Belmar’s businesses are not doing well as can be seen by all the vacancies on Main Street. Someone with that experience would be very helpful.
