I’m happy for Toms River but we must understand here in Belmar our taxes are going up. There can be no more kicking the can down the road. We have a tough road ahead of us and we must do the hard things that have to be done to get us fiscally solvent again.
Wrong Tom. Do not fall into the trap that “taxes NEED to go up”. Cut all department budgets 10%. Get rid of the FAT, you all know who they are in this town, just look at the salaries. Continue to drain the swamp and replace them with cheaper(lower paid), more eager employees that are HUNGRY for a steady paycheck, benefits and pensions. Stop the waste, palm trees, rusty military vehicles and such. Look around, you can see waste everywhere. Start taxing these liquor establishments, however that may be, for the toll they put on our resources.
I know a lot of people that work for the town and ALOT do not make high salaries and are very underpaid. They are HUNGRY for what they rightfully deserve and that’s more money for their jobs

A good start would be to knock that beach berm down so we are not paying DPW OT every Saturday to sweep the boardwalk and streets.
#2 I agree also. The rank and file in town work hard and deserve good pay. It’s the bosses like Campbell who gets a huge salary and stipends every time he wipes his butt. Then the pd brass starting with “acting overtime” chief housman and his crew making over 200k a year. Keep the drain going!
I agree. Cut the fat and then do a study to determine who should and who should not get a raise. What about benefits? Look into health insurance and maybe change plan. Need to look into costs reductions first !!!!!
The former administration nickel and dimed the rank and file borough employees who work hard for little pay to line the pockets of some of the higher ups in town. Hopefully that balances out while saving the town some money at the same time.
#3- Everyone feels they “rightfully deserve a raise”. And by whose standards are they “very underpaid”? Open you eyes and face the truth. These people took a civil service job knowing they would never be rich but be able to earn a living and have benefits and a steady paycheck. And if they are not happy at that civil service job perhaps they should pick up the want adds and look for another job. After all, it is said that there are more jobs available than people to fill them (very low unemployment). The grass is always greener on the other side so good luck in the real world and go out and work hard for the private sector and then complain about not getting a fair paycheck. Adios. There are plenty of other political mungs that will suck a** for the job you vacate.
When the reality of our DEBT comes in focus, remember who to blame. Mathew Doherty and his team. The incoming administration has a mess to straighten out. From overpaid management, the life guard crisis, infrastructure issues and who really knows what other jewels they will find. Especially now that The entirety of Team Dorehty will not be there. I would ask everyone to take a deep breath and hold on tight. It’s gonna be a bumpy flight!!!!
We are all going to have to be a little patient and ask our new leaders to be honest, open and transparent wether we are going to like what we hear or not.
Truth, painful or not, that’s what I’m looking for.
Immediately, a time study should be performed gratis by a vendor who wants the contract to totally revise the entire Borough Hall!
#8 – I am (first a different poster) and in corporate world, always getting good reviews and way to go’s….but due to the powers that be, I am facing another corporate re-org and potential loss of my role….would happily trade my daily trip to the city for a steady 8-4 cushy in town job

Use zero-based budgeting to identify waste and fluff … start with Tourism.
Tourism is the most wasteful patronage job in Belmar. Guillotine that position!
Actually the better they do their job the worse it is for the people who live here.
Yea Administrator, old wise one. You know, only too well, what hordes cost Belmar in monetary terms as well as a family’s well being. Send them to Atlantic city with the Piedmont Piper.
