I’m surprised that the obfuscater in chief didn’t dub the building the “Merry Makers pavilion”. He should be proud of himself. He was able to build a wedding hall for a private company using public money. It’s masterful. Of course, we get stuck with the bill for the thing but what’s five million dollars among friends? I mean it was worth it- the drop ceilings, the vinyl floors, the vinyl base molding, the total lack of cross breeze, the decision to block the view of the lake in the main barn area, the cheap windows. So much detail.
So it is with earnest sincerity that I proclaim- if that structure cost five million dollars to build, I’m the king of France. And lastly, finish the 10th ave pavilion already. That’s the only structure east of the boardwalk that actually had the taxpayers blessing AND serves a public service. But I get it, you can’t keep Merry Makers waiting. When you purchase a Mayor and council, you get results. And when you’re a Belmar resident, you get stuck with the check.
You meant to say MerriMakers offering dates that Belmar residents are paying for. Sounds like pass through to me . “I’ll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today”.
don’t forget the lack of dimming lights… I was at an event and the lights could not be dimmed for mood – and no coat racks -I will continue to shake my head
#2 you are right on. Not only is the building ugly as sin with no character or originality, it is no longer accessible to the public as promised by our liar in chief and his followers. And what is with those hideous railings? How much more then bonded 5 mill will that cost the people of Belmar. With Merrimakers running a private business ( another snow job) out of there any remote chance that the courts will rule that the beach utility will pay instead of the taxpayers of Belmar is lost.
If you have fond memories of the former Taylor Pavilion, hold and cherish them. You can’t relive them here. Gone are real wood floors and Silver Lake views. Even the ‘Cruz Bay Cafe’ marquees dwarf the John A. Taylor lettering by 2X.
5G: Excellent find. Sure hope Counselor and the Council individually read the content of the article you provide.
It is critical that knowledgeable representatives do not rush into a 2 week deadline when there are serious commitment issues especially since we’ll be locked in for 40 years.
It is easy to understand why anyone would build big big buildings in Belmar
with no tax payments for 30 or 40 years.
It is hard to understand that 5 major sized buildings will be tax free for many years. Some how the people that approved all of this are needy in a lot of areas. Many many homes for sale in Belmar. Some smart people are leaving.
Go to a meeting and just say NO to the council giving Verizon a gift of their income generating sale of pole space on your beach…. drop in the bucket investment for 40 years of eye sores. Remember the Taylor scam.
Belmar is ruined. What – do you think that the council members know how to read and think critically? Someone is making money and it not just the developer, I would guess. More votes in the bag for the local administrative crew. It’s all a big racket to feed the hog trough.
Those deals (hoodwinks) that seem too good to be true usually pan out to be not good at all. The time squeeze by Verizon is a pressure technique, and if a decision had to be made before the end of January, it is too late to voice disapproval, a useless thing anyway, as Matt and crew do what they want whether the residents desire it or not. Reminds me of Nancy Pelosi saying to pass the health care bill and congress will read it later to see what it says.
The short time limit placed on Belmar’s opportunity to be hooked into a 40 year debacle like the Taylor is no different from Any of the other small municipalities that have been offered the same Verison benefited deal to get cheap “collocation” on our beach so they can generate millions on the taxpayers backs, again a doughty move. And if we wanted camera’s installed on the Collocation poles we would have to pay them for our own lease space just like any other communication vendor that wants to pay Verizon for shared lease space on their poles. Staking on the beach, really?
How much did the new Belmar boardwalk cost to Belmar and public? How much did FEMA reimburse Belmar taxpayers? How long do actuaries estimate for the life of a Jersey Shore Boardwalk like in Belmar? Does the Boardwalk as an ASSET of Belmar have any value?
If so the Verizon deal??? doesn’t bode well for Belmar and it’s taxpayers. Fool me once is ringing in our ears.

Why have coat racks when MM only wants it for great weather. Let them eat cake says Matts
Merri makers gets away with wait staff on the beach all summer too. Let’s not forget about that.

No peddlers on the beach,please.
Why do we allow vendors to transport plastics to our beach? Need a sip of water use the fountain, next to the 27 cell towers they want to install.

Free Wifi, I hope this is not the plan. http://www.steelintheair.com/Blog/2017/04/top-10-things-the-wireless-industry-doesnt-tell-you-about-small-cells.html
If summer of 2019 is booked we should increase the fee charged till we see a decrease in bookings
I like to know how MM is able to wash the dishes of events…I never saw a dishwasher
#12, it’s that little guy in the bathroom using the sink.

Totally unacceptable for BELMAR.

Who is paying to fix the frozen water and sewer pipes at Taylor Pavilion?
